When will Aatrox receive his long deserved buff?

People have been asking for so long, and not even for any huge buff. Just some quality of life-changes would be fine to most of his abilities.

His Base Stats - Looking at his Base health (395 +85 Per Level) This is less than mediocre, especially on someone who is a dive-based champion. His Base MR is fairly low, but he actually gets MR per level so this is fine. His base ARMOR is about average, but should be higher for a Fighter/TANK

His Passive - It's not good at any point in the game. Early game spamming abilities will cost you too much health to keep the blood well level high enough to save you when you die/keep your attack speed high, and late game it doesn't give you enough health to prevent you from getting instagibbed when you come back. (It is on a shorter CD than GA, but it's not even worth keeping track of)

His Q - This ability would be fine if the Knockup hitbox wasn't so small. It doesn't have good enough scaling/base damage to make up for how hard you work to land the knockup

His W Blood Thirst - Good lane sustain THEORETICALLY, but since his base health is terrible, early game you'll just end up getting zoned by literally anyone and not getting to utilize it. And it scales off of AD, so late game it's not good sustain at all since you have to autoattack 3 times for a heal with small base amount, and you won't have enough AD late game since you have to build tankier than normal thanks to his bad base stats. Blood Price - You'll have this on most of the time in teamfights, but it's not worth it early game since you'll end up losing a lot of health and you only have 1 gap closer which is also your disengage. (The extra damage doesn't apply to lifesteal either)

His E - One of the worst spells in the game. Almost like Lucian's W, but at least his W applies his passive (the main purpose) and is good for kiting. Aatrox's E is on a 12 second cooldown early game, so it's not good for poke, it has low base damage and a useless AP scaling, and late game it's STILL on a 9 second cooldown and you have to put levels in it to increase the slow duration. It's not even a consistent slow coming out, and it has a super small hitbox considering it has 1000 range. It has more range than a pantheon spear and slows for 1.75-2.75 seconds in EXCHANGE for -3x Cooldown -Being A Skillshot -Over 2x less scaling (Not counting the 60% AP scaling) -Less Base damage

His Ult - This skill is fine. The AP Scaling is REALLY trivial, but it gives him well deserved AS and Range.

So Aatrox is almost always seen either in the top lane or the jungle.

Top Lane -You'll probably lose every single trade, but you have infinite sustain (assuming you don't get zoned, which you probably will) and you have no efficient way of farming. You can escape from ganks, as long as your 16 second CD gap closer-escape doesn't get baited. You can poke with your E, but it does no damage and will be sustained off a couple autos with a bilgewater cutlass.

Jungle - Most would think his W would ensure he clears at full health right? Well no. It ensures you don't get EXECUTED, but you will still be spamming pots. His clears are kind of slow since his abilities do next to no damage, but his passive attack speed helps him with clears. His ganks are actually pretty awesome if you land the knockup, but that's really hard to do since the hitbox is small, has a somewhat long cast time, and is dodged easily. Otherwise his ganks are pretty decent since he has a slow.

Main jungle problem is there isn't really a good jungle item for Aatrox.

Feral Flare - His clears aren't fast enough and you'll get yelled at if you farm a lot since Aatrox can actually gank pre-6/without his ult. If you can get a lot of stacks on it, it will be really good, but it's hard to do that.

Spirit of the Elder Lizard - Pretty decent, he just doesn't use mana and the DOT passive isnt that useful since he has no physical damage poke and his abilities, while being AOE, don't do much damage either way.

Spirit of the Ancient Golem - Never tried it personally, but it might work.

Maybe a good buff to him would be

-Buff his base health -Increase the hitbox on his Q Knockup -Make his E not the worst spell in the game -Buff his passive at later levels

Those are just my thoughts, I never see Aatrox played and when I do, they never do well. He just doesn't do enough damage building damage and isn't tanky enough when building tanky. Please consider this, Aatrox is a very fun champion to play, but isn't rewarding enough, and for a champion that craves battle, he isn't strong enough in most battles.

His base health is low because he has high early game sustain, damage, and a revive passive.

Every champion base MR is the same, every champion with MR per level is the same.

His Q is basically a miniature malphite ultimate, it makes sense for a dash skill with a knock up attached to it doesn't have super damage attached to it as well. It's not that hard to hit either.

His W is fine for sustain. You're not going to struggle in every match up despite common opinion. You will only struggle against lane bullies, champions with super high early game damage. Riven, Rengar, Darius, Olaf are good examples. You also should be building a mix of AD and tank, not one or the other.

His E is fine. You're really underrating it. You're comparing it to a single target poke tool and neglect to mention that it's magic damage so your enemy isn't going to build against it and because it's multi-target and hits minions it's a useful pushing tool.

Top Lane. Has plenty of good match ups and is way stronger than you're giving him credit for.

Jungle yes his early game sustain isn't the best in the jungle, but his ganks are indeed great (his Q isn't hard to land though). He also has the strongest early game dive potential in the game.

Aatrox's real problem, is how feast or famine he is. When he's ahead, he's great. When he's behind, he struggles because of how quickly his blood well begins to decay after leaving any kind of combat. The decay after leaving combat affects his top lane when he's behind, his ganks when he leaves farming the jungle, his sieges on an enemy base.

In this game I had to start off careful, Rengar is stronger than I am and he came to lane with a kill (though I didn't notice until he turned level 2 middle of the first minion wave and tried to surprise me). However, I played it out carefully, took advantage of his mistakes and pushed the wave into his turret using my E. This prevented him from utilizing brushes and it would heavily punish him for roaming. I constantly pinged when he wasn't in lane and built early armor to counter his early game damage. After I killed the turret I soley focused on one thing, and that was peeling for MF, who would be the obvious target for rengar.

Aatrox is strong in the right hands, in the right circumstances, he's by no means perfect. But theirs nothing wrong with being a niche character.
