Fix Your Game, Riot

ivan usi virgin··7 votes·2,778 views

good job, riot. you've managed to slowly shape league from the finest, healthiest, least toxic, most balanced and most enjoyable meta it's ever had, the cinderhulk meta, to the worst meta it's ever had, the season 6 meta. but what even is the season 6 meta? it's a meta in which enjoyment isn't a factor in the game, whether you're playing a normal game or a ranked game. why? for multiple reasons.

-too many overpowered and toxic champions, not enough bans. we're still looking at 6 bans after years though the amount of champions has increased by a lot. required bans are Fiora Graves Rengar} Soraka TahmKenchDrMundo and more.

-towers are now too weak, and dives can be made early game with very little risk.

-death timers have been increased for absolutely no reason. good job, riot

-juggernauts.

-comebacks are nearly impossible now, the game is now decided by whoever gets the first lead. because death timers have been increased and towers are weaker, one kill in lane ends up becoming, along with 300 gold, a cs lead, a 2 level lead and a tower lead.

-shutdowns now give global gold instead of giving it to the players who are behind and desperately need the extra shutdown cash.

-games are now so fast that dragon has become nearly completely irrelevant

-rift herald is stupidly easy to kill. one small kill toplane and the lane is completely over because the enemy jungler and toplaner are able to kill it and get the buff without any consequence.

-champion favoritism. LeeSin

-ap mage items have been completely gutted because they now all cost 600 more.

-balanced/weak/underplayed champions are nerfed because riot doesn't know how to balance masteries. Swain

-because towers are weaker and games are now faster and decided so early, weak early champions have been left to rot without some sort of conversation and are dove 3 times before level 6. Nasus

-riot is incapable of fixing champions that are broken or overpowered like Jax or fixing champions that are underpowered like Taric Urgot and instead focuses on reworking balanced/strong champions like Shen

league's state right now is honestly absolutely disgusting, and beyond unenjoyable. there are so many more points that i could list off, so many many more. i honestly hope riot fixes this game because this is an absolute disappointment; they should know better as the company running the most played game in the world.

There's a lot of wrong points but there are a few ones that are right.

ivan usi virgin2 votes

if i may ask which ones are right and which ones are wrong?

S H A Y C 01 votes

-champion favoritism.

im assuming you think lee is really strong right now?

also taric is in the middle of a rework..

ivan usi virgin3 votes

lee has always been really strong. he's always had arguably the strongest earlygame mobility and damage, the only thing keeping him from being broken is his ginormous skillcap.

taric should've been reworked a LONG time ago, not this late. especially not after someone like shen. where are the priorities?

S H A Y C 01 votes

Clearly not where you think they should be...but since they didn't hire you to work that out, I'm guessing that doesn't matter

ivan usi virgin2 votes

they didn't hire me, doesn't mean there's anything wrong with sharing my input or feelings about the game because god forbid i use the forums for what they're for, right?

and don't tell me that the priorities are not where i think they should be, because they obviously aren't and you don't need to clarify what's already clear; there's a reason why i'm making this thread. ultimately riot should be working on balancing their game, and shouldn't be wasting time and resources on reworking champions who are already in a perfect position such as pre-rework shen instead of champions who have been long forgotten by the meta and are almost, if not completely unviable like taric, urgot, etc.

S H A Y C 01 votes

here is the problem with everything youre saying. its all base off your opinion.

ultimately riot should be working on balancing their game, and shouldn't be wasting time and resources on reworking champions who are already in a perfect position such as pre-rework shen

your opinion is that shen was in a perfect postion. this has to be correct for anything else you said to make a difference.

if not completely unviable like taric

Ive been doing some serious work with taric...so again, your opinion. My experience has been very different. Youre opinions are wonderful and i am glad you chose to express them...but your actual words are printed as facts and not "i feel like shen was in a perfect spot" and "i feel that riot has their priorities in the wrong place" you stated them as fact, which they are not. You can yell at me all you want for your inability to express yourself properly, but in the end...I can't accept the blame nor is it my responsibility to correct it.

skillcap

Tbh nahhhh.

Skillcaps aren't a thing.

ivan usi virgin1 votes

100% are, especially with lee sin

Crossette2 votes

Remember when people called Vayne extremely mechanic/skill heavy?

I got a 1v4 quadra in my first game as Vayne top with a KDA of 5-3-3.

As soon as I started playing Lee Sin, I realized that it was a dick move. I kept doing it because they literally will never nerf him.

ivan usi virgin3 votes

vayne is extremely mechanic/skill heavy because she's a champion who relies heavily on her environment, and one mistake can have massive consequences as vayne. it's not difficult to perform well on champions in ranked in lower elos. i'm not trying to put you down or insult you at all, but lower elo players generally don't know how to counter most champions, vayne being one of them, which is why in a lot of cases it's easy to excel as any champion in lower elo. i'm speaking from experience of course, not out of my ass. when ever i'm smurfing and play vayne in silver i crush my opponents, but when i play her in ranked on my main i get absolutely crushed because i'm not capable of playing her at a skill level high enough to perform well against players who know how to counter her.

Crossette1 votes

First time Vayne though.

If it isn't difficult to perform at lower ELOs, then why can't they outperform someone with significantly less experience?

I'm not smurfing (but you don't know that) so what's the deal kek :^)

ivan usi virgin1 votes

well, that's not that easy of a question to answer. the player you were playing against could've been first time as well, or had a minimal amount of games as either the champ or the role. they could've been lagging or had some sort of other technical issue. it could've been a bad game for them, or maybe they're just less skilled than you are. i wasn't there so i can't say.

Crossette1 votes

Right.

In a 1v4 though? Odds are, at least ONE of them is going to have an idea of how to fight one of the most played ADCs at that time.

Especially considering I was in a 5-man premade.

ivan usi virgin1 votes

i couldn't tell you man, i wasn't there and i have no record of the game or any part of it. all i can say is that regardless of your experience vayne still isn't an easy champion to play/master

nobody's saying that m8

TheGreatZomega1 votes

That's essentially the assertion that he made by stating that skillcap does not exist in League of Legends.

Crossette1 votes

Actually, yes.

You act like Ekko and Rumble actually take ability to play.

(also i used to main Vel'koz, he's as easy as Malz)

Ori is probably the only place you got me.

ivan usi virgin1 votes

i'd argue rumble/vel'koz/ori do, purely based off my own experience. as for ekko, i've never played him before so i can't say.

TheGreatZomega1 votes

See, no. I actually have you entirely, because those were just examples. And how do you figure that a champ with 4 SKILLshots takes the same amount of SKILL as a champ with 1 skillshot?

That logic is completely ass-backwards.

These champions (AGAIN just for example(hopefully you can understand that this time)): Azir Bard Corki

Are more difficult to just pick up and play than these champions: Annie MasterYi Tristana

And therefore skillcap is most certainly a thing that exists in LoL.

Crossette1 votes

And how do you figure that a champ with 4 SKILLshots takes the same amount of SKILL as a champ with 1 skillshot?

Because they're just shots?

That's why Ezreal has a higher winrate than Vayne. Skillshots TOTALLY make a difference in "skill".

TheGreatZomega2 votes

Ezreal has a higher win rate than Vayne because Ezzy can contribute damage to his team where Vayne simply cannot. Vayne's kit is designed for chasing and all ins, which low elo players will not execute very well.

Ezzy get's uber loing range poke that he can put an AoE slow on with item 3025 . He's easier to play than Vayne because his kit is inherently more forgiving.

Ezzy gets to escape over walls like twice a fight.

Vayne has to burn flash to do the same thing once.

It's not just the skillshots that make a champ take skill, you have to consider the totality of their kits.

Crossette1 votes

Except you just NOW made this revelation instead of four posts ago where you made your argument based on one game mechanic.

I guess this is matter of opinion but I don't agree with this.

-too many overpowered and toxic champions, not enough bans. we're still looking at 6 bans after years though the amount of champions has increased by a lot. required bans are Fiora Graves Rengar} Soraka TahmKenchDrMundo and more.

Tahm disgustingly broken, Graves is pretty ridiculous and Soraka is horrifying. Mundo's also pretty dumb but not too bad. Others aren't picked often and aren't too much trouble.

-towers are now too weak, and dives can be made early game with very little risk.

I agree with this.

-death timers have been increased for absolutely no reason. good job, riot

They were increased for reason, but they seem pretty extreme a lot earlier now which I don't think is good.

-juggernauts.

Nothing wrong with them.

-comebacks are nearly impossible now, the game is now decided by whoever gets the first lead. because death timers have been increased and towers are weaker, one kill in lane ends up becoming, along with 300 gold, a cs lead, a 2 level lead and a tower lead.

Comebacks are very much possible and leads are easily thrown in most levels of play. If one kill puts you that far behind then you'd have to be AFKing for a few minutes after you die.

-shutdowns now give global gold instead of giving it to the players who are behind and desperately need the extra shutdown cash.

Sharing shutdown gold is healthy for the game and stops an entire team from being drastically weaker than their one fed player.

-games are now so fast that dragon has become nearly completely irrelevant

Valid point. Dragon isn't as valuable as it should be because of game length. The increase to death timers only made this worse.

-rift herald is stupidly easy to kill. one small kill toplane and the lane is completely over because the enemy jungler and toplaner are able to kill it and get the buff without any consequence.

The lane isn't over just because of one Rift Herald unless the team which has the advantage continues to press it well.

-champion favoritism. LeeSin

Lee Sin has been falling out of meta the past few Seasons. While he'll never be completely gone, he's not ridiculous like he used to be.

-ap mage items have been completely gutted because they now all cost 600 more.

Another counter-intuitive change that Riot has made. They want games to be faster, yet they make it take longer for AP Champions to get their items. Now they need to either get extremely fed or farm well for a long time to get going.

-balanced/weak/underplayed champions are nerfed because riot doesn't know how to balance masteries. Swain

A very small nerf which should have been done a long time ago. Although it shouldn't have been done until he was seeing play, since nerfing a weak Champion doesn't make sense.

-because towers are weaker and games are now faster and decided so early, weak early champions have been left to rot without some sort of conversation and are dove 3 times before level 6. Nasus

Late game Champions don't need to be touched, other aspects of the game need to be changed (tower strength, death timers, etc.).

-riot is incapable of fixing champions that are broken or overpowered like Jax or fixing champions that are underpowered like Taric Urgot and instead focuses on reworking balanced/strong champions like Shen

Jax isn't broken. He was just stupidly strong for a few weaks while Rageblade -> Gunblade existed. Now he's the same as he used to be.

I guess this is matter of opinion but I don't agree with this.

definitely my own opinion, yes, and from what i've seen many other people share the same opinion. to each their own though, if you disagree that's perfectly fine.

Tahm disgustingly broken, Graves is pretty ridiculous and Soraka is horrifying. Mundo's also pretty dumb but not too bad. Others aren't picked often and aren't too much trouble.

fiora is in a spot where she can build like a tank and completely destroy tanks or multiple people by herself. that's not healthy at all. i personally don't find rengar overpowered but i see him banned often which is why i feel the need to include him, since i'm taking into account that the new champion select allows multiple people to ban, not just 1 person now.

I agree with this.

They were increased for reason, but they seem pretty extreme a lot earlier now which I don't think is good.

whatever the reason is i'm not certain of it, but i think the extremity of it is very unhealthy for the game.

Nothing wrong with them.

my issue with them is that whenever they're in game which is very often they win lane hard and dominate non-juggernaut toplaners, which completely destroys balance or champion variety in toplane.

Comebacks are very much possible and leads are easily thrown in most levels of play. If one kill puts you that far behind then you'd have to be AFKing for a few minutes after you die.

i'm speaking from experience. of the games i've lost, in most of them i've started losing in the early game, and i've tried stalling the game to the 35-40 minute mark, but i've ended up losing in the end. and i'm talking about literally every game i've lost so far, not just a couple. i don't think i've seen more than a small handful of comebacks since atleast preseason.

Sharing shutdown gold is healthy for the game and stops an entire team from being drastically weaker than their one fed player.

i disagree; the easiest way for me to explain this would be with an example. let's say a garen is playing against a wukong in toplane, garen is 3-0 and wukong is 0-3. if wukong is able to kill garen, i think it'd be much better if the full 500 gold was given to wukong as he earned that gold and he needs that gold more than the rest of the team, in comparison to giving him 370 gold and the rest of his team 50 (or whatever the numbers are)

Valid point. Dragon isn't as valuable as it should be because of game length. The increase to death timers only made this worse.

The lane isn't over just because of one Rift Herald unless the team which has the advantage continues to press it well.

it absolutely is. rift herald is such a strong advantage, and if used correctly can be used to take out a tower and snowball kills. i almost always see it happen when someone gets rift herald, except for the rare cases where they get ganked or overstay and lose the buff.

Lee Sin has been falling out of meta the past few Seasons. While he'll never be completely gone, he's not ridiculous like he used to be.

lee sin is still ridiculously strong. the only reason he hasn't been as strong recently is because jungle camps have become stronger over the seasons, which hurts lee. however, he's still an absolute terror in the hands of high skilled players.

Another counter-intuitive change that Riot has made. They want games to be faster, yet they make it take longer for AP Champions to get their items. Now they need to either get extremely fed or farm well for a long time to get going.

A very small nerf which should have been done a long time ago. Although it shouldn't have been done until he was seeing play, since nerfing a weak Champion doesn't make sense.

maybe i'm a bit biased here as a swain main, but i still think that the nerf was completely unnecessary and hurts his 1-6 phase since swain is SO vulnerable from 1-6.

Late game Champions don't need to be touched, other aspects of the game need to be changed (tower strength, death timers, etc.).

if riot is going to tune the games to be faster i'd atleast expect them to tune late game champions to make them atleast playable in the faster game meta.

Jax isn't broken. He was just stupidly strong for a few weaks while Rageblade -> Gunblade existed. Now he's the same as he used to be.

rageblade>gunblade on jax is still a thing and still a terror. i'd say it's honestly moreso an issue with the item than with jax himself.

Blue Ezreal is pretty obnoxious but it's not stupidly hard to beat.

it's EXTREMELY frustrating and it's played every game. there's almost no adc variety now; every game it's either an ezreal, a graves or a caitlyn.

definitely my own opinion, yes, and from what i've seen many other people share the same opinion. to each their own though, if you disagree that's perfectly fine.

Looking back, perhaps the Cinderhulk meta was one of the healthiest states of the game, after it was taken away from laners.

fiora is in a spot where she can build like a tank and completely destroy tanks or multiple people by herself. that's not healthy at all. i personally don't find rengar overpowered but i see him banned often which is why i feel the need to include him, since i'm taking into account that the new champion select allows multiple people to ban, not just 1 person now.

If she builds like a tank then she won't be a threat to those who know how to beat her. She doesn't completely destroy tanks unless she has a lot of AD, since her true damage scales with it. She will beat them because that is her nature, but she won't just melt them mindlessly.

my issue with them is that whenever they're in game which is very often they win lane hard and dominate non-juggernaut toplaners, which completely destroys balance or champion variety in toplane.

I'm guessing this is from your experience which makes it a fair point but I don't see Juggernauts often and when they are in the game they're nothing exceptional.

i disagree; the easiest way for me to explain this would be with an example. let's say a garen is playing against a wukong in toplane, garen is 3-0 and wukong is 0-3. if wukong is able to kill garen, i think it'd be much better if the full 500 gold was given to wukong as he earned that gold and he needs that gold more than the rest of the team, in comparison to giving him 370 gold and the rest of his team 50 (or whatever the numbers are)

This is a good point and I can see why you think it's better to shove the gold onto the person who needs to comeback. In that case, I agree that it's better for a single person to get the gold. The thing is though that most shutdowns won't be that situation. They'll often be in group skirmishes or teamfights in which multiple players contribute and it's more beneficial to share gold. This point is all situation but for the most part I think it's healthier to share the gold.

it absolutely is. rift herald is such a strong advantage, and if used correctly can be used to take out a tower and snowball kills. i almost always see it happen when someone gets rift herald, except for the rare cases where they get ganked or overstay and lose the buff.

Which is what I meant by continuing to press the advantage. Your push becomes much stronger and often you'll start stacking minions plus the bonus stats/damage so you probably can't even be 1v1ed. You're still susceptible to ganks or smart defensive play though and as long as you aren't left to trample the lane it won't be a huge advantage (for lack of a better word).

maybe i'm a bit biased here as a swain main, but i still think that the nerf was completely unnecessary and hurts his 1-6 phase since swain is SO vulnerable from 1-6.

If you look at other CC in the game, most of it (if not all) don't become as strong as that until they're leveled up, which Riot made a point of when they nerfed Fiddlesticks, Rammus, etc. Swain does need some love but his W nerf is valid (he should still be buffed in some way though).

it's EXTREMELY frustrating and it's played every game. there's almost no adc variety now; every game it's either an ezreal, a graves or a caitlyn.

I don't see Graves and Caitlyn much in my games but watching streams I've seen a bit of Graves ADC. Otherwise it's usually Lucian and Ezreal.

i've seen it happen. i'm speaking from experience, where a fiora can build something like for example, item 3071 item 3748 item 3742 item 3156 with a couple other items. this makes her do a lot of damage while being very tanky at the same time, add on her overloaded kit with an ult that heals for a ridiculous amount and she crushes people. it's okay for champions to be strong, but in cases like fiora she's reached a point where she's just imbalanced and nearly gamebreaking.

I'm guessing this is from your experience which makes it a fair point but I don't see Juggernauts often and when they are in the game they're nothing exceptional.

i suppose. beyond juggernauts, i'm just seeing a lot less of a variety in toplane play, and it's become much more railroaded; play x champ or you lose top and the game, that's pretty much how it's been. from what i've seen, top has been cut down to a couple dominant champions, mostly graves/poppy/shen/malphite. while it's great that the tanky bruisers are in the spotlight, i don't think it's right that if you choose a top champion who's now considered a niche pick you automatically lose the game. if the other team has a graves, shen, or poppy top and you pick a champion who you enjoy playing because you actually want to have fun, such as riven, tryndamere, rumble, swain, etc. you'll probably find yourself losing. a meta has always existed, but the toplane meta is A LOT more narrow than it was in season 5.

This point is all situation but for the most part I think it's healthier to share the gold.

in which case gold will be fairly distributed through assists and such. i don't think it's just that if a top laner is losing lane and him and the jungler manage to shut down the enemy top laner his gold is cut and given to the bot lane and mid lane who are winning lane and didn't contribute to the kill at all. that's really unhealthy for the game imo and makes it even more difficult to come back, especially with how difficult it already is.

Which is what I meant by continuing to press the advantage. Your push becomes much stronger and often you'll start stacking minions plus the bonus stats/damage so you probably can't even be 1v1ed. You're still susceptible to ganks or smart defensive play though and as long as you aren't left to trample the lane it won't be a huge advantage (for lack of a better word).

if you have the buff and the enemy laner is unable to 1v1 you, then you can easily shove the lane and force a tower. someone who's ahead definitely has the right to be able to press the advantage, but having a gold and exp lead is already enough of an advantage without the enemy laner being able to grab a 10 minute baron buff which makes the slightest possibility of coming back impossible.

If you look at other CC in the game, most of it (if not all) don't become as strong as that until they're leveled up, which Riot made a point of when they nerfed Fiddlesticks, Rammus, etc. Swain does need some love but his W nerf is valid (he should still be buffed in some way though).

i don't think his w nerf is valid. swain is a VERY immobile champ, one of the slowest in the game, and nerfing his only ability which allows him to catch up to enemies or defend himself from ganks (aside from q, which isn't effective enough in either case) is extremely unfair. rammus doesn't need the taunt to be that long to catch up to enemies since he's already mobile and it's a melee taunt anyways, and fiddle's fear also slows enemies, plus his w has a fairly long range which allows him to do damage or trade easily. in the case of swain, if i'm throwing down a w at max range, 1 second isn't NEARLY enough time to catch up to someone i've caught or to escape from a gank.

I don't see Graves and Caitlyn much in my games but watching streams I've seen a bit of Graves ADC. Otherwise it's usually Lucian and Ezreal.

i forgot to mention lucian, my bad. yeah, it's often those 4 which come to mind. graves is banned in most games but very often for me it's either ezreal or lucian or caitlyn.

Why do people say they miss the Cinderhulk meta? Why should 5 tank team comps EVER be viable again?

The amount of times I've seen a tank walk away from a retardedly bad play with nothing but the health bonus from Cinderhulk is too, too many times. And it's extremely tilting every. Single. Time.

No one wants it back.

No one.

ivan usi virgin1 votes

from my experience, i enjoyed cinderhulk meta because you could make almost anything viable in it. i played a massive variety of champions in season 5 in the cinderhulk meta, and most, if not all of them were legitimately playable and enjoyable and viable.

personally, i want it back, and there are A LOT of people i know and on the forums who say they want it back, so i think you should stop for a moment and edit your posts before trying to speak for other people; how about you say "I don't want it back" or "A lot of people don't want it back" instead of "No one wants it back" because that's just not true; that's just ignorant.

TheGreatZomega1 votes

I was gunna lay into you for this, but I can see that our ever-gracious community has already done that.

Instead I will just say that I agree with a lot of what you said here, but like Nasus is just as dangerous as he's ever been, and Urgot is a terrorist in the hands of an experienced player.

I do agree that Riot has a lot of work and explaining to do, and the meta is certainly in shambles as far as low elo is concerned... But Riot doesn't care what we think until we're Plat.

If you ask ME... the problem is the ranked system that only rewards winning... what about a positive KDA? What about wards placed/destroyed? What about percent kill participation or all the 'et ceteras' that make a player a GOOD team player?

The way that the system is set up, literally none of that matters, just that you and the other 4 (most likely toxic or incompetent) players see the "Victory" banner. It's simply not fair.

P.S. you forgot the cancer that is Zed
