Artificial Winrates

Håppy··3 votes·416 views

Winrates literally don't matter. They do not matter. You will, permanently, be hardlocked to a 50% winrate. If you start to do well, the matchmaking system is programmed to pair you with poor players, toxic players, or a combination of the two, to MAKE you lose games. Nothing actually judges your skill, it's just you hit a brick wall because you're playing too well. This system is garbage, especially with this new preseason making everything else miserable. Fix your game.

But I have a 65% winrate in ranked, and higher than that in normals on my main champion.

Once I get to my peak, diamond 5, I cant really put out a 60%+ winrate anymore. I got diamond 5 on 2 accounts.

I'm just where my skill level is atm. I dont have enough impact.

A gold player in an all plat lobby, or in his "true elo" will often not feel like he can help his team much because he doesnt have the lead or knowledge to do it.

If your MMR is higher than where you should be, getting a 50% winrate because you're gold vs all Plats doesn't matter. You're still going to gain way more LP than you lose it. You still climb with a 50% winrate. To say the game is giving you worse teammates than the enemy team is just an over-reach. You haven't given any evidence to make that ridiculous claim.

My op.gg literally just proves your argument wrong. https://imgur.com/ufolbOI

I'm giving you an random upvote to counter act the random down vote from a coward who was unwilling to argue their opposing view.

It's not programmed, you're just reaching your true ELO and thus achieve a 50% winrate over an infinite number of games. No conspiracy theories needed!

This is exactly why it matters heavily when a champion has over 55% winrate

This is just bullshit. Players will always have a positive winrate on champions they main. Champions with low skill floors & low skill ceilings will always have high winrates. Champions with low pickrates, tend to trend higher since enemies are unfamiliar with the matchup and will trick themselves into believing misnomers.

Regardless of all these facts though, #BetterNerfSona anyways. Because FUCK SONA. Amirite? Meddler agrees 200%.

Perhaps when you play well the system places you against better players so that you can improve. The problem is this doesn't happen in a way that feels good, instead it feels like everyone on your team got worse. Just a theory.

Håppy2 votes

It's both ways. They improve the skill level of your opponents, while worsening yours. It's a broken system that frustrates everybody.

Very compelling evidence and reasoning. Would you also be a doll and tell me more about how the earth is flat and Nasa faked the moon landing?

Hey, if you don't want to believe it despite all your time playing, you won't believe it if I bring you screenshots or statistics because you'll find a way to explain it all away. Cute, by the way, comparing it to conspiracy theories.

Look, if you think matchmaking is intentionally trying to place you into a division where your gonna average close to a 50% win rate... Your totally correct. That's how its built how mmr works, the entire point of ranked ladder. To be in a competitive environment with your peers.

However I don't understand why the hell you feel its gonna have additional mechanics that would actively interfere with it from doing that job mentioned above. Artificially trying to force 50% win rates gets in the way of placing players into their divisions where they naturally see that. If riot had a detection system that allowed them to hunt down highly toxic players then load them onto teams to slow down some ones climb, what value does this provide them? If they could do this what in the word stops them from using it to punish said highly toxic players and improve the environment for the healthy player base?

What's the gain for programing an incredibly complex algorithm that actively try's to sabotage players by looking for variables that are entirely dependent on a humans behavior, something the program has absolutely no control over. In theory I can see a mmr program wanting occasionally putting a player into a harder match then their division after a win streak because their raised MMR, if only just to prevent folks from getting lucky and climbing up the ladder because their divisions much lower then their MMR. Yet, we already a system for this in place and its clearly visible. Its called placement matches, they exist to break up the luck factor. What is the benefit to trying to double down on this?

You did what... 106 ranked solo que games this season. I want to know if you truly think that's a statically significant number of games to apply to the general populace and if its enough matches to make ya qualified to make the claim your getting hard stuck despite not even unlocking veterans badge in your division, which only exists to show players they have been at their division/mmr for a while.

Part of the conspiracy theories was meant for humor but I really don't think your giving this topic much critical though and analysis, you don't even mention what the hell the end game that artificially locking players via sabotaging their team would accomplish. Your claiming its true and it happens but not why or what its being done for, which reminded me of arguments I have had with a flat earth derp hence the jab/joke. Don't take it personally. I think your frustrated , I don't think your a crazy tinfoil hat nutjob.

No, that's not what I'm complaining about. Hell, I've intentionally sat at plat 5, even to the point of accidentally decaying out and climbing back up. What I'm talking about is in general. I've played over 5000 games of League across all queues and three live accounts + 1 pbe account, with just shy of 3k on this account in normals alone. I'm pretty intimate with the matchmaking system, and very acutely aware of the times I'll be on a winning streak and get thrown in to games with sub-30s on my team, or with a literal Challenger player on the enemy team.

What's the gain for programming that algorithm? I don't know. What's the gain to half the questionable things Riot's done? It's no secret how awful this matchmaking system is, and the way the game treats promotional games, nevermind winning streaks.

I had assumed that you where talking about ranked, I was unaware this was a post about normal match making. I have never seen some on express a view that they feel normal games showcase accurate player skill so please forgive my confusion. I was exclusively focusing on ranked.

Håppy1 votes

No problem. Ranked's hard-locked "1 whole league above/below you" makes it not AS terrible, but it's still pretty foul. Normals is where everything is monkeys.

This is why I wish League would take a number from Blizzard's playbook and have performance influence your LP gain/loss. Many players have demanded it, dozens of threads have been made asking for it, wtf use is the damned mastery system. Other than telling me I'm not the reason my team lost, thanks my S+'s (yes plural) on Zyra, whilst still losing the match each time. Highest stats across the board: damage, VISION, participation, et cetera, et cetera...
