Question about Yasuo's Ult

DW Diana··1 votes·2,129 views

Hi guys,

Quick question regarding this ult:

Can it's CC effect be broken by Cleanse or QSS?

I mean it's a long range, single target, point and click CC. Surely it can be interrupted right? Otherwise how is Malzahar and Skarner ults considered to be so OP when Yasuo's is effectively BETTER then suppression?

Look forward to hearing back,

You cannot cleanse it (Cleanse specifically says "Excluding airborne (all knockups, knockbacks, pushes, pulls, suspensions, the game moving you out of a wall, and anything else that isn't teleportation or dashing that moves you or holds you in the air) and suppression"), and I believe QSS only partially works (You'll still take the damage, but you may be able to move around), if it works at all.

The reason it's not considered as "OP" is because of the duration of it is far lower (only about a second) and because you don't take damage from Yasuo during the entire time, only at the end of it (Also, the relative damage is a lot lower than coming from a Malzahar ult, while he can't move during it like Skarner can). Also, it not being as point and click (he needs to land a knockup in the first place, while Malzahar and Skarner can just walk up to you and press R) also helps make it less "OP".

GP oranges work so I'd imagine the QSS will. Still intrigued by the cleanse though as on further study his ult counts as a "suspention" which is a form of Stun so potentially COULD work.

Knock up plus ult is not that much difference, and the fact it can be chained with other knockups makes it pretty easy to do. Both Skarner and Malzahar have to be a lot closer to use their ults, with skarners still being a skill shot, and malzahar's also CC'ing him. Also neither of theirs do as much damage or apply and resistance shred.

I'm not saying "OMG OP" or anything, it's just an interaction I'm intrigued by, and as a Malzahar main I naturally gravitate to the fact he has received so many nerfs based on his ult, as has Skarner, and find myself wondering how some of the other ults in the game are any different in terms of power, and whether THEY have cheap and easy counters like QSS. Knowledge is power afterall :)

Suspension is an airborne effect - it's basically a knockup except you visually stay in place (that place being mid-air). Visually, it's a stun with the fundamental mechanics of a knockup, but those fundamental mechanics mean that if QSS doesn't work on knockups it shouldn't work on his ult.

Skarner's R is not a skillshot, though, it's point and click all the way through.. The skillshot you're thinking of is on his E, I believe, which allows him to slow and stun you. Vital to get in range if you don't have Predator or item 3800, but not the suppression itself.

Malzahar's R does way more damage than Yasuo's, though, and that's just a fact. Unless he built like an assassin, or you're against a team with a very low max health, Malzahar's R will just do more damage over its full duration. That's the nature of DoT versus "instant" (even delayed instant) damage in League, and is also due to the fact that Malzahar can still have his E and W attacking during that time. Both Yasuo and Malzahar CC themselves during their ultimate, as well, the difference being that Malzahar can choose to end it early.

Also, not to be overly technical, but Yasuo's R gives him bonus penetration, not armor shred. Similar, but not as useful (especially given that Yasuo does about 30% true damage anyways between IE and Conquerer).

It is interesting to study that, I have to agree. It's interesting to learn how abilities interact with one-another, and what limits one but doesn't limit another thats similar

So it's a CC that just can't be broken? You realise that means he has a 2 second (including knock-up on a 4 second CD) , unbreakable, 975-1400 range CC right? I'm not being 1 sided or anything, but that seems a little... well I'll let you be the judge of that xD

Ah, my mistake. TBH Skarner's ult can also allow him to move during it which is a massive advantage over Mazlahar's ult anyway.

Actually I'm gunna have to call you out on this one: Mazlahar's ult does very little damage. Yes his E and W can be doing damage at the same time, but that is not his ult's damage. I understand that YES he CAN have all 3 going at the same time, hell he SHOULD have all 3 going at the same time, but that doesn't mean you can apply that to his ULTS damage. Yes Malz can end his early, but so can EVERYONE. He can be CC'ed or interrupted during his ult, even before considering QSS.

Also, not to be overly technical, but Yasuo's R gives him bonus penetration, not armor shred. Similar, but not as useful (especially given that Yasuo does about 30% true damage anyways between IE and Conquerer).

Fair point, but it's the same with MAzlahar's ult doing % HP damage; it's there, but its such a small area no one takes much from it. The difference is unlike Malzahar's % HP damage which you walk out of, Yasuo's armour PENETRATION carries on for 15 seconds.

It is interesting to study that, I have to agree. It's interesting to learn how abilities interact with one-another, and what limits one but doesn't limit another thats similar

Yep. I've also been questioning a lot of the boards "standard" responses. Things like "why no AP QSS" or "why no AP GA": "Zonyas". But that's the subject of another post so I'll leave that one there xD

Yes, you can cleanse the knockup. Don't know about QSS but it should work as well.

Edit: I may be wrong on this one. My info is a bit outdated.

According to it's description it doesn't work on knockup...

Disables: Blind, Charm, Flee, Slow, Silence, Disarm, polymorph, Root, Stun, Sleep and Taunt.

What I'm asking is whether the Yasuo ULT effect is ALSO considered a knockup (and therefore unbreakable) or if it counts as something else.

You can QSS & Cleanse it

Ok cool, I think I might try that next time I play against him: See how the interaction takes place.

Keep in mind the damage still applies but the CC effect is removed is all

Interesting point: Yasuo's Ult does all the damage at the end of it, meaning if you use cleanse BEFORE the end of the ult, it shouldn't do any damage (much like if you kill him part way through). I've yet to test this, but thought it was a good point to raise.
