Zyra rework discussion!

So everyone is sulking over Vlad and widening their eyes at Malz but... I haven't seen any threads on Zyra rework so here's a place for us plant lady lovers in order to at least give our opinions on the matter!

-Her passive not dealing damage when dead... while it wasn't really a staple on her kit, dying as Zyra never felt like the end, you could get some gold and at times even payback. This feature will be missed but I think we can live without it.

-No vision from her seeds... another small aspect of Zyra, the reality is that being able to plant 8 seeds would mean way too much vision but this was the only thing that W had going for itself, of course, stepping on a seed now will clear it and you'll know that someone is there but being able to see them made you react accordingly.

-Last but not least W itself... this skill is simply boring, paired with the rest of her kit it's really great but at level 5 it barely adds 1 more hit from champions (I think?) taking away the cooldown reduction was a good call but leaving it with nothing is kind of sad, specially since the damage from her passive is gone. I was hoping for some kind of warding skill, like the mandragora ward that appeared on the PBE a long time ago or passive magic pen or mana or something!

what do you think?

"Riot we hate Illaoi tentacles!" "Ok, I heard you, Zyra now has illaois passive too. If you complain more, f***** Yorick will have the same mechanic! Are we clear?"

But everyone's been saying illaoi's passive shoulda been for zyra, it was a good move for them to do....

i am just upset they just slapped a Illaoi passive on her and went on to the Q....

Her Passive and W are the same skill. I don't know why Riot would do that.

When I saw her passive I thought "OH.. then that means her W must be different"

Nope. Instead her W is the EXACT same, just granting more health to plants, and grants you the ability to place the seeds instead of them randomly appearing.

Zyra isn't being shown Mid lane mage love. and that's just saddening :(

And Malzahar is going to be nerfed into oblivion once bandwagon players get ahold of him.

yeah I thought the same :/

She is immensely more deadly to gank with her plants than she has been previously. These changes are significant buffs to her solo play and imo sizeable nerfs to her support role.

How her support role was nerfed:

  • seeds no longer give vision
  • poke decreased
  • more plants = more push

These changes are more detrimental bot lane than for a solo lane.

In champ spotlight videos showing skills with no gear, Malz's W half-healthed the Katarina.

Like...it did as much damage as his ulti.

I agree that her W seems a little awkward since her passive is already spawning seeds all around her, but I do understand that it is good to have the ability to deliberately place seeds in specific places.

I actually didn't notice the fact that they removed the vision, but when I was watching the only video I have seen of her so far, I was half asleep to be honest. I like your mandragora ward idea. What if instead of a ping, stepping on seed applies near vision of that champion for a second?

Yeah being able to place seeds of your own is absolutely needed. Applying vision is the same thing she had before and I assume they took it away for a reason, can't really pinpoint what reason that was aside from there being a lot of seeds everywhere.

I could be wrong, again didn't get much gameplay to feed through my eyelids, but it kinda looked like the seeds were only spawning in places that she currently had vision. Maybe she was then moving so they moved out of vision, and they removed the vision because that could actually get pretty broken. I think simply making it more obvious that a seed was destroyed and where that seed was would really be enough to make up the difference. A brief amount of lingering vision would help to let you know which way the enemy went after they destroyed your seed would be nice, but not necessary.

I wish the bonus HPs mattered but they dont. DOT and AOE attacks still kill them in one it or in .5s

Her Ulted plants need to be immune for the duration.

Well... I've seen her spells working kind of weird on late videos, like, they'll make plants out of seed that aren't even hit by the skills, so, all in all I believe her power budget kind of went up... that said the passive will be missed indeed.

Seeds turn to plants when spells are cast near or on them. That is by design.

I dont like her new Q shape but the passive is nice.

Hige1 votes

that was the case on her current iteration but for this one some whacky out of place seeds turn into plants as well, it'd be interesting to know the specific area that her spells cover dont you think?

I hoped Riot would have reworked her W. It's basically half of a skill... maybe not even that.

Could be something as "simple" as fertilizing existing seeds from passive to grow them bigger (up to x times). Activating a fertilized plant would then obviously create a bigger and deadlier plant with possibly unique interactions.

Just imagine leaving a fully fertilized seed somewhere then casting grasping roots at it which creates this huge vinelasher boss plant monster which emits waves of grasping roots around it every few seconds while violently impaling enemies one by one.

well that sounds a bit on the OP side xD! but yeah it'd be interesting to see how W could be better.

I'd like it if after a while, any unattended seeds became special seeds (Specially now that there's some crazy seeds near walls and stuff), they'd try to move on their own towards any skill Zyra casts at amazing speeds, these seeds would create a different kind of plant called a defender, it would have no attack whatsoever but it would try to block damage, like windwall, for either Zyra or her plants!

The gameplay around a skill like this would be that you want to time aggression correctly and you'd want to nurture at least one of your seeds, the timing though would need to be huge, like, a defender seed must take around 30 seconds to arm and leveling the skill increases the plant's size and unlike windwall, this skill could be balanced around amount of projectiles deflected, start at 1 and ramp up to 3 (1/1/2/2/3)
