Subclasses don't matter

Wirh the recent renaming of some subclasses (catcher, really? Come on Riot!) and changing some champions subclasses, I'm seeing more and more posts pop up. Mostly about Rengar now being called a diver instead of an assassin.

Honestly though, it's not a huge deal. It's basically a label. The thing that matters with champions is how their kit works, the items you build, and how you can utilize them against enemy comps.

Whether or not Rengar is a diver, an assassin, or a friggin artillery mage, it doesn't matter. What matters are the items you build on him and how you stack ferocity and utilize his kit. The rest is just a label to help people make sense of the type of play a champion offers. They could call Janna an assassin for all I care. That won't stop people from building redemption, locket, and spamming the fuck out of shields while staying on the fringe of team fights.

It doesn't matter at all. It matters so little one wonders why they wasted even just 5 seconds of developer resources doing it. Riot has made it quite clear they do not want classes in this game (except supports, they need a punching bag), so why make sub-classes a thing anyway?

{quoted} It's basically a label. The thing that matters with champions is how their kit works, the items you build, and how you can utilize them against enemy comps.

Which label(s) get used, whether they're accurate or not, is based on a champion's kit, items, and gameplay.

I completely agree. Mundo is a fucking tank. I don't care how often people say he isn't. For the entirety of multiplayer gaming history, a tank has been someone who soaks a lot of damage. That is Mundo's specialty.

#It really does matter, when Riot decides to "balance/rework" a champion wholly around their perception of that champion's sub-class and completely gutting/nerfing everything else that might be viable, other than their concept of that champion's identity and build.

I.e. if Riot thinks Rengar should be classified as a vanguard -- then they'll end up reworking/nerfing/destroying his kit to be "more tank less gank", removing/limiting damage, stealthing etc and just making him a beefcake like Alistar, with some CC. And they do not give a fuck how the community sees him, or plays him, or builds on him. Did you like bruiser Rengar? Riot will say "fuck you, he's now a vanguard and building bruiser on him does 0 dmg". Did you like stealth assassin 1-hit crit rengar? Riot will say "fuck you, he does too much damage, got rid of stealth and no scaling for anything except %HP stuff, and now he heals teammates with his abilities".
