@Meddler, Could we clear up Riot's feelings about Vladimir? A while ago Morello said he hated Vlad.

Godman873··25 votes·17,351 views

Vladimir was the third character I ever picked up in league, while I thought his default's hair looked silly all of his skins were impressive. Now that I heard he has been reworked I have mixed feelings. On one hand I would absolutely LOVE to see his gameplay get updated and be a bit more indepth and fun but I would hate for him to lose his identity.

To me Vlad is a blood mage, he uses the blood he gets to sustain himself through magical means while weaponizing the excess blood against his enemies.

Ive looked through most (maybe all?) of the red posts so far and I have seen NOTHING about Vlad, Brand has been acknowledged in one thread, Zyra has been mentioned once or twice, Malzahar is mentioned on practically every post, there is even multiple threads about 'please don't rework vel'koz' and there was even a HUGE discussion thread about Cassiopeia.

Reason why I am worried about Vladimir the most is that Morello stated he hated Vladimir, his sustain and regretted him as a champion. I understand Riot isn't the same company as they were back then but I would really hate for Vladimir to be gutted because his identity isn't the best for gameplay.

I also suggested this in the main thread. I don't expect a response on that one but its more indepth than this post.

So please could we get some form of response about Riot's previous feelings on Vladimir versus their feelings now?

(Also I tried to find a link to Morello's post but I couldn't find it anyway)

Our main problem with Vlad is his Q. It's a low CD, targeted, resourceless spell that restores health. It doesn't have much interesting decision making for Vlad, if it's ever strong early he just shuts a lot of people out of lane and the main ways to deal with it are to either sustain even more or to punish Vlad really hard when he trades.

Vlad's also got a bit of a 'stat check' issue, where he'll just reliably outclick a lot of opponents 1v1 without sufficient avenues for being outplayed. That's not ideal, it's a lesser issue though since it doesn't kick in until later in the game when 1 v 1 counterplay is less important than team v team counterplay.

Thank you SO much for the reply! This makes me look forward to his direction now since even I admit there isn't much to it (his Q).

When I read your post, here's what I saw: "I'm a Vlad main and I win with him his Q helps me win but he's not strong don't nerf him pls rito he's balanced because no one can beat him in lane because his damage is his sustain and he only need one item to be strong". Mains of champion reworks always say the same thing, except Kha'zix players. Kha'zix mains embrace the change. Change is good.

That is not true. I main Vladimir as well and i hope that they give him meaningful gameplay but i have 2 concerns regarding this update: 1) I want him to keep his core identity of tanky sustain mage and 2) i want him to have easier gameplay than Azir or Yasuo. I picked him up because if i didn't have simple champions to play i would never leave my precious botlane. Note: I say simple, not braindead.

Over Innsmouth13 votes

Does this mean that Q is one of the skills potentially destined to leave his kit? I'm sure Vladimir players (myself included) wouldn't mind losing it on the basis that we still have some way to sustain ourselves. In my mind, while there are other champions who do have sustain and in some cases it's core to their gameplay, none of them are as defined by sustain as Vladimir. He is the foremost sustain-man in League, and that needs to stay.

Other than that, thanks for coming out to answer some questions we Vlad players have!

Malicious Metal27 votes

I'm positive he'll be this sustain monstrosity but with added couterplay. If I recall correctly the reasoning for him being a candidate for this type of rework isn't him not having a cohesive theme or being distinctive. It's him being a stat-check champion who doesn't really have many avenues in which he can be beaten. Think old Mordekaiser or Shen; Not much of interaction with the enemy laner.

But don't worry, all your dedication for Vlad won't be in vein, so don't think your cup's half empty, he'll be fine.

I kinda like how the op put his ideals of Vlad.

To me Vlad is a blood mage, he uses the blood he gets to sustain himself through magical means while weaponizing the excess blood against his enemies.

This would make a pretty cool basis for the rework. Gaining blood through one or multiple sources, then having to make a choice between using it for added sustain or for added damage.

About the only ability in his kit I'd be heart broken to see go would be his ult, while it's not the MOST unique ability, it does have some great uses and a lot of potential, though I'd love to see some minor tweaks.

rtbf2256182411 votes

The only reason his ult is "unique" is due to the active increased damage income. Though i agree.

It's pretty unique for an ability to do its damage a long time after it's cast, to be fair. Not interesting or anything but it stands out.

I don't think they want to kill his ability to be a sustain monster, it just needs some way to interact with his opponent. The way I see it, Vlad's gameplay should be about having your HP go up and down depending on how you're fighting.

rtbf2256182411 votes

His passive works on his maximum AP/HP not current AP/HP, it doesn't change during fighting.

Verxint2 votes

I'm not talking about vladimir now, i'm talking about what he should be.

rtbf2256182411 votes

In that case you're telling Riot to make his kit work so he would become gradually weaker depending on whether he is taking more or less damage.

That's a bad idea. Basically condemning you to lose a fight because you have low hp.

But Vladimir does have a counter. The new item Mortal Reminder was specifically made to counter self-healing champions, wasn't it? Isn't that counterplay?

Except that half its cost is invested in ArmorPen, which is almost useless against Vlad unless he builds pure tank.

If item 3034 and item 3123 could be combined in a new item, THEN we'd have a perfect counter to him.

They won't make an item to just counter 1 champion and an item like that could possibly bury him.

DrMundo Illaoi Darius Volibear and Trundle (depending on the build) all of these tend to stack health and relay on % health healing rather than building a lot of resists, making a item 3034/item 3123 item better for dealing with them than either item 3033 or item 3036

You only need one item 3033 to counter the healing. But every other AD champion can buy item 3036 to counter his health. Even a fucking Janna can buy a item 3033 or item 3165 or even summoner 14 him. Leave countering the health to the guys who synergise with item 3036 summoner 31

Where do I start...

Saying I only need one item 3033 on the team is one of those plans that sounds good on paper but fails in execution, unless you can guarantee that member of the team will be there in every skirmish that Vlad's involved in.

Buying item 3036 JUST to counter health is worthless. You only get a max of 15% boost to damage. You'd be better off buying straight damage (AD/Crit/etc); same damage boost against him, more effective against anyone else. Again, the Last Whisper items are only useful against him when he builds armor, which I've only seen full tank Vlads sometimes do.

Unless you're trying some weird ADC Janna thing, item 3033 is also a colossal waste of stats, and Support Janna taking summoner 14 will gimp her bot lane experience purely for the rare and situational assistance against him mid-late game.

Well you should. I mean, nobody is going to walk up to a 7 0 Renekton unless you have the tools or amount of people required to kill him...

Assuming Vlad is not the only one with defensive stats on their team.... >_> Why the hell would you buy that thing VS a team with just a Vladimir that builds defense?

That's why I also noted Morellos there. NomNomNomicon won't apply grievous wounds unless the target is below 40%, making Mortal Reminder an option worth considering. I was kinda just making examples. You COULD get Mortal on Janna if you feel like nobody else is gonna get it and the Vlad is fed enough to always be > 40% health :P But what are the odds you'll get in that situation? It's not optimal at all. But if you feel like the situation calls for it :P Also, Supports taking ignite is not uncommon at all o.0

Hey Meddler. I've been thinking about this issue, and had a kit in mind to balance vlad at both ends including his Q.

New Passive: Blood Bank; A resource bar that fills whenever Vlad steals health from a Unit (Including Spell Vamp, Items, and abilities). As the Blood Bank fills it could increase damage and/or healing, but most importantly when its more than half full, it empowers Vlad's abilities. Blood Bank decreases when Vlad takes damage. (This causes vlad to think more carefully about his engagements, does he want to build his blood bank to secure more damage/healing and keeping his abilities empowered, or does he steadily trade and diminish his blood bank.)

Base Q should remain largely unchanged except for number tuning, making it a solid last hitting tool with no blood bank, to a dangerous powerful weapon with a full blood bank. When Q is empowered I like the idea of stealing other stats with health, most balanced would probably be Movement speed, maybe Magic Resist.

Base W again just number tuning, but when empowered is the best place to add mobility to Vlad's Kit. Empowered W could be a short range dash, where vlad pools into the floor, than that pool shoots in target direction, damaging enemies in direction and healing for % of damage done.

E is tricky because (Like Q) it has no decision making or counterplay. If its up and you're in range, use it. Its tricky because Vlad heavily depends on this ability for aoe presence, its how he remains largely relevant in team fights. I think this skill is ok to change as long as it remains AOE. The healing boost can be relocated to the Blood Bank.

R needs to change, and I like the idea of a Blood Curse (Too bad trundle's ult is nearly perfect for Vlad), or Maybe even a Blood Bond with an Ally, sharing stats or mitigating damage by diving damage taken between the two of them.

The takeaway, i want to keep a single target Q, and a Blood Pool. I would like to add a resource bar that adds depth to Vlad kit (Not Mana)

strangly enough, that´s exactly how Fioras working atm - only that she win´s the stat-check in a lot more cases than Vlad.

Fiora's only point and click ability is her ult, which doesn't do any damage in of itself. She has to use her abilities to proc it, all of which rely on her positioning herself on every side of the champ and proccing a vital. If you ever have a vital facing Fiora, you can make it disappear by briefly walking away and then walking back to respawn a different Vital. Her Q is a very short range dash which is good for chasing due to the cooldown reduction, but as I said is short range. Her E is just an attack speed/damage steroid. Her W roots her and lasts several seconds, and if you bait it she has no way to mitigate damage.

Every single ability except arguably her W has sufficient counterplay, and even her W requires much more thought to using them than Vlad's kit, which is all point and click ranged harass that can't be avoided or counterplayed.

So no, that's not exactly how Fiora is working at the moment, regardless of how strong she is or isn't at any given time. That's how old Fiora worked.

Auz the Ripper5 votes

her W lasts 3 quarters of a second and will not be baited if the Fiora is competent her Q's short dash range is made up for by its large hit radius and the fact it can proc her passive granting up to 50% movement speed and Her E is techincally point and click CC and damage, considering it's an autoattack enhancer.

the problem I have with Fiora is that she has all the tools she needs to get around her own counterplay.

Well if there's 2 things I want kept on Vlad it's:

1: Him gaining firepower for building vitality and vice versa (Taking hp regen into account may also be kinda cool)

  1. Him being able to turn into a pool of blood. It's his most iconic skill and the one that leads to wtfast moments

A smart thing to do is incorporate his sustain into his passive, and maybe give him so sort of marking system. You could get that idea for his ult. I would like if Vlad's plague could be contagious the only thing like that in lol is Malz's E. But maybe his spread could infect other people before the target dies.

SpecterVonBaren2 votes

Perhaps they could remove all the innate healing in his kit and place it all into his passive like, "Vlad heals for X damage he deals with his spells, X increases for every Y of AP he has." Makes it so he gains a way to survive as he gains AP but makes him weak to burst.

One thing to keep an eye on in the mage update, especially for Vlad, is to give them more options for 40% CDR. Currently there are very few specific methods to do this, mostly including CDR Boots and FQC. Maybe not linking some of these to mana can help Vlad a bit more, as he currently has troubles getting past 20%.

Vlad already sits at way below 50% so if you plan on making his best spell significantly weaker, you know you will have to buff him a lot right?

The only reason that I and many other people play vlad is because of how reliably he beats people later in the game, its the same reason I play nasus. If you get rid of his identity as a weak early game laner that turns very strong later then he will just be another morde that nobody plays because you take away what we like about the champ.

TLDR If I can't 1v3 reliably late game anymore as vlad I'm obviously not going to play the rework. Dont make him another generic character.

Constructive and Critical post for Vladimir! Riot please read and comment, I think that these ideas can help your development team a lot! (especially coming from a Vlad fan)

Vladimir is my FAVORITE champion in League. He feels so cool to play and he feels very unique. Vladimir's identity is in his Q, Pool, and passive. These three abilities feel very important to Vladimir that no other champion can do. Vladimir is known for being the best at sustain, but his Q is not broken or imbalanced right now because I have lost as Vlad many times, and beaten many Vlads. His pool is also very important to his identity because what separates a good vlad player from a great Vlad player is when to pool. Those two abilities synergize because they both heal him. If you were to discard an ability, discard his E, not his Q or W. Vladimir is the only hemomancer that we know about in league, he is distinctly unique simply because of his profession and identity in the lore.

I believe to rework Vladimir EFFECTIVELY for the game, the community, and for his true fans like myself you need to further define what hemomancy is. Is hemomancy simply manipulating blood? What does it even mean to "manipulate" blood... move blood around, to drink its life force, to shape it, or poison it? Is hemoplague the most powerful technique of hemomancy or is hemomancy capable of greater feats? Are different people's and creatures blood worth more than others? What is the goal of hemomancy? Why does Vladimir run around with a ball of blood, is that where he holds excess life force? If you look at all of these question then it will be easier to rework Vladimir.

Critically speaking about Vladimir's gameplay, his ultimate, and passive seem less engaging compared to other champions. His ultimate is a point and click AoE that is simple. And his passive feels like extra numbers based on items... which is based on money. His passive should increase Vladimir's power but based on kills and amount of blood siphoned.
How does Vladimir siphon blood? His Q and W siphons blood, Vladimir's E stabs enemies with BLOOD BLADES (hemomancy power). You could give Vladimir a BLOOD BLADE ability... that would be cool. His ultimate INFECTS (Hemomancy power) his opponents blood making them VULNERABLE to all attacks and then dealing large damage.
What if Vladimir's ultimate was similar to Nunu's, Janna's, Morgana's, Fiddlesticks, or Blitzcrank? He drains the life force of all opponents in an area for a duration while healing himself and procing his passive. This would combine Vladimir's siphoning/healing identity and his AoE identity on an ULTIMATE scale... This would give him an ultimate that flows better with his kit and would feel more ultimate. Also please include his badass blood lord Vladimir laugh when he activates his ultimate this way! Giving Vladimir that awe and power that he deserves! Im getting excited just thinking about it! Picture it... Vladimir's bruatally awesome laugh, he levitates into the air while the blood of his enemies flow into his blood ball! The visual affects would be so cool!

Blood should be more important to Vladimir in game. Whether it directly impacts his passive instead of bonus health/Ability power (items/money). Or using blood as a unique resource for Vladimir. We know that Vladimir killed his teacher to complete his training and now has all the knowledge of every hemomancer before him. So we know that Vladimir siphoning blood EMPOWERS him. What if Vlad's Q gave him different stats based on whatever he used it on and healing himself. For example... If he siphoned Arhi he would get a little bit of permanent Ability Power that game or if he siphoned Riven he would get a little bit of permanent Attack Damage that game. And if he killed that champion then the permanent boost would be greater... this game mechanic is already used in champions like ![Veigar](https://ddragon.leagueoflegends.com/cdn/16.21.1/img/champion/Veigar.png) , so why not also Vladimir? This would make Vladimir's gameplay change everygame based on who he lanes against and the enemy team composition... making every single game of League of Legends with him different. But Vladimir's Q can't lose the self healing aspect.
This mechanic would be similar to what ![Nasus](https://ddragon.leagueoflegends.com/cdn/16.21.1/img/champion/Nasus.png) and ![Veigar](https://ddragon.leagueoflegends.com/cdn/16.21.1/img/champion/Veigar.png) does, but unique to Vladimir because his siphoning is based on the enemy and not himself. This also makes forces Vladimir players to be dynamic and Vladimir's item builds would change game to game. No other champion would be as dynamic as this, making ![Vladimir](https://ddragon.leagueoflegends.com/cdn/16.21.1/img/champion/Vladimir.png) even more unique!!!

Also if Vlad gets behind he is done for... Thus giving him a serious weakness. Or if Vladimir DIES then he loses some stacks from his siphoning? Also this could be a weakness in and of itself... Because if Vlad spreads his siphoning too thin than the rewards wouldn't be as impacting. Forcing the player to be smart about his Q. This would make Vladimir's Q even more of an identifying ability. He would still lack mobility. And base attack damage.

I think Vladimir's history and lore should be fleshed out more in the upcoming update too. I would like to know what Vladimir has done since returning to Noxus. Has he influenced politics? Rivalries? Friends? What has he done with his powers to influence Runeterra? Who does he like and dislike and why?

Also I don't like his hair on his classic skin. But his outfit is cool and fits his personality.

I really hope the development team at Riot sees this post, this could help a lot!

May the rivers run red, DoctorPanic

People are complaining about Vlads' healing potencial, and how annoying it is to play agains him - but what they are really saing is - he survived my all in, with mine much higher damage than he does, and istead of having to base, he can stay and heal back up.... They are saying Vlad is cancer of top lane.. but all you need to do is build one magic resist item with hp.. and vlad wont be and issue for 90% of top laners. What really happens here is, that people hate, that their wukong, irelia, renekton, riven and so on (all infinetly much stronger in 1v1 than vlad) sometimes fail to all in him and he can heal back...

But in reality, its all about punishing vlad for it, its same with every champion.. you have to know him and capitalize on his weknesses... He can drain me from 600 range, thay say, its not fair they say.. well, give me wukong(600 dash), irelia(650 range dash), xin(600 dash) and so on, who can 100-0 everyone who dont build specificaly tanky agains them.. .and I ask you, where is balance in that? Why is healing (which doesnt seems to be a problem later in the game for all the ADCs) considered cancerous for majority of top laners, while early assasin potencial of top laners, who then became tanks or bruisers later in the game doesnt seem to be a problem for you?

Also, big problem for vlad is fact, that he needs so much stats.. because he is low rangemage, he has to have armor, MR, CDR, AP and with all thta also spell vamp do to his E,W life cost (and way to stay alive in close range fight) - this is same what ryze needs, but ryze can build mana items with CDR and armor(frozen H, gauntlet) or hp(roa) which also gives him damage and gains spellvamp from his ult, while vlad needs all these stats to not be blown away in second in TF, and only stat he gets from his kit is bonus hp.. So think about it, before you tell me again, how cancerous Vlad is to the game.

Yeah, that's right. That's why he's getting this update. I'll be the first to admit that playing against a Vlad who knows what he's doing can be bloody annoying. What he needs is some room to be pun-ished more heavily for messing up, because currently the only way to really take advantage of him messing up is attacking while his W's Pooldown is up. Or mid-lategame when Tranfusion has virtually no Q-ooldown.

People also don't realize how much of a Crimson im_Pact_ his passive really has on him. <1000 bonus hp for building full AP? Yes please. Not to mention how the %heal bonuses from his E can really turn the Tide_s of Blood_ in a fight.

He's a bit binary, but at least he's not as bad as Ryze is/ever was.

"To me Vlad is a bloodmage" no telling :D we can all see that. Also riot will never gut a champion that made it to live... that'd be to weird they'd totally rework their personality and kit before they outright gut them but need not worry as vlad has an awesome character :P

To me Vlad is as creepy and Maniacal as Jhin (like an evil villain who laughs at their own jokes). I'd like for them to take his lore in extreme account when reworking him because his lore is awesome. Just thinking of a young boy getting taught blood magic with a sinister look on his face makes for good movie :3 I'd also like to learn a bit more about how he growed up, how he became alone and who taught him what he knows about blood bending magic sorry xD

Personally i allways felt his ultimate had the least impact on his playstyle. Its like a weaker AOE deathfire grasp/Zed ult hybrid that... Makes a lot of noise and not much else.

And really, Rito? You talk about Vladimir being an "outstat you"-issue while Irelia and Tryndamere are still around?

Vlad, in his current form, is very unhealthy for the game. He's pretty much single-handedly the reason why spellvamp isn't allowed to be strong. If Vlad ever got stronger through buffs to his items or masteries in the past, he became this highly corrosive mix of a Yorick early game (I poke, sustain, and never leave lane) and a DrMundo late game (I'm tanky and hard to kill, but deal out tons of damage).

Meddler is on the right track. There's nothing healthy about his Q. You point, you click, you deal damage at range, and sustain with no cost at all. That's gotta go.

MatthewRT23 votes

his q is one of the best things about him, you need it to fuel your other spells. without a way to replenish health you might as well stay in base.

TaoShamash1 votes

Vlad needs a deep rework imo with a more clear theme and consecuence kit (is he a Hemomancer? make a system where he needs to stack/use blood noteworthy then; A Vampire? keep the sustain through the enemy HP but make the kit more theme oriented for a Vampire lore). With this you make room for another possible new champ to fill the role he now softly take. I'm sure there are a lot of people who want to play a pure Vampire champ

But if your only giving him QoL changes then here are my thoughts:

-If you gonna keep him as a poke mage with low range (aka a hit and run champ) give him more mov.speed (f.e. a temp buff like ahri Q -srly i dunno why you gave that to Ahri instead of Vlad-) or/and make him ABLE TO MOVE while casting like Syndra. I personaly like the second option more. -He needs animations upgrades regardless of what you going to do to him. Along with a new, less horrible autoatack. Since all those Q nerfs years ago he is now very AA reliant until he reach lvl 9 (max Q). -The model could use a little fix and improvement. In special his hands. -The Bloodlord skin (the expensive one) is ugly now with the new graphics of the game, the color scheme is too... bright?. I use Soulstealer more and i thing every Vlad player too -Dont make him a Juggernaut, he is not a tank as neither it was Morderkaiser. People STILL dont understand this holy moly. TANKS=resistance stack, more HP dont make you a tank -I would like to see him levitate like Syndra o Karthus instead of always running. Maybe like Thresh when he reach certain mov.speed?. Rito pls
