Such as Veigar, Brand, Xerath.

No, they shouldn't. They shouldn't be able to carry on a support's budget.

However, mid is hell for immobile mages. Everyone is playing assassins there and it's not fun to either get dunked on or play passively for fifteen minutes until you get enough gold to do real damage. At least as a "support" you get to actually play the game and not just hug the tower for dear life.

High-damage mages are pushed to support when assassins are too strong.

Freaking this 10x, its so goddamn painful to play mid as an immobile mage because of all the assassins and jungle pressure.

Veigar Brand Xerath are not hypercarries.

You know what do they lack to be hypercarries like ADCs?

Reliable BpS...

Most of their damage is on skillshots and with CD on it.

Old Veigar used to be close to a hypercarry when his Q was targeted and he was able to kill things with Q + item 3100 every 2 sec when fed...

Xerath is all skillshots and have lengthy spell animations, almost same as Brand + both have not so short CDs.

Cassiopeia must land Q to become a hypercarry, not so reliable...

Old Ryze Katarina used to be one...

Right now the closest thing to an AP hypercarry is Kayle and after her Azir.

Riot is reworking Kayle now, and Azir went to hell and back with nerfs and mini reworks because he functioned as he was intended to function...

Bottom line: is carrying and penta kills are not for Mages, Riot will not allow it. these things are for only for the likes my dear boi MasterYi and lass MissFortune

Are you telling me veigar can't carry a game as support late game?

Any champ in any position can carry. Not "hyper carry" though

Brand Hypercarry?

He's a hyper lane bully.

Same for Xerath.

Ill agree with Veigar and Xerath, but Brand is just a artillery champ, he cant actually carry anything.

Veigar Brand and Xerath are all quite different. Veigar support is forced to trade to keep up his stacks and get Frostfang gold for his expensive items. If he missuses his Event Horizon or gets ganked or the matchup is unfavourable he'll just get crippled throughout the game.

Brand is a dot (Damage over time) mage. He has high base damage and low mana costs so if he gets: item 3098 item 3020 early, he can have the potential to do very well, he also gets the most use out of item 3116 item 3151 of any champion in the game I think, maybe Malz gets more, but it'd be close.

Xerath isn't really viable because his mana costs are so high, and going up to get your mana auto means you get chunked. He has high scaling which is good but you can't get out of the laning phase without buying mana. You also have to hit your skillshots, as just using them isn't guaranteed damage.

Mages that go support are often not viable in midlane because they get outscaled very quickly and mages that are mid don't make good supports because their mana costs are too high and they can't function very well on low income, can't trade/don't have enough range etc. So you can't move a mage from mid to support or vice versa as their meta lane without altering them quite significantly.

Imo you can play any mage support and have good games and a positive w/r in bronze-gold if you know the champion well enough, it can function as a support (get frostfang gold, win trades, place wards, provide some function in a team fight). If you first buy item 3285 item 3027 or item 3003 as your first item and can use them well and you get them at 15-17min with frostfang and sorc shoes, you can do really well. I personally go ROA a lot if the champ has high scaling, Ludens leaves you fairly squishy but it's a lot of power in one item. Archanges is only really good if you plan to buy more mana and don't plan to go a mpen route, you also need low cd's to stack it, tear gives no AP so it makes trades harder. Bout it. Gl on the rift.

Here's my opinion:

In some circumstances they have to be.

I brought out my Goddess Nami play today (albiet pretty tired), and what did I get stuck with?

A Kai Sa who spent TWO entire games with me doing nothing but deeming every single skirmish "too risky." All she did in two games in a row is literally afk farm minions.

(I had several times where the opposing team literally had the adc dead, and the support CC'd readily and hard, where she literally backed off because "I'm out of mana" - ON A KAI SA.)

Game 1 Short story: Kai sa, Quinn top, and our mid Int fed an Assassin Kayn. No matter what I did with Nami, I couldn't win. I could bubble the garen/kayn, land every hit, heal 2 people per W.... and whiff. It didn't matter. They didn't use it at all. I actually outdamaged the Kai Sa on Nami.

Game 2: Stuck with the same adc, I went full balls because I knew what kind of "adc" she was. So I went Zyra

-Kai Sa literally went 0/0/14 before 28 minutes. That's how much she avoided the game.

-I carried and held out an initial 0/6 Mid Fiora and a 1/7 Pyke who were toxic, and seemingly trying to lose.

  • After 47 minutes, finally closed out a toxic promos to Silver from Bronze on my smurf (Last year entire year the account was close to Gold in Silver. Got dropped to elo hell by playing Neeko in numerous ways in Preseason).

Let me ask you this: Would you rather toxic 3v5's because bot lane is polarized as either a complete win or a complete loss, or would you at least rather have a 4v5 where the support can be the carry? I guarantee you're going to lose more if every game is potentially a 3v5....
