building defenses as either of those champs makes it less likely that I'll even get to farm vs my lane opponent, let alone win a fight against them
Throwing out advice that you yourself don't really follow?
Not necessary. If you let yourself go 0/5, you just need to back off or roam. It doesn't have anything to do with the build. Building defensive on a champ that shouldn't can make you more useless late game than you would being behind even 30+ CS.
People need to understand that not dying is more important than getting kills. As long as you are working at getting gold, you are doing fine, no matter how behind you were in lane. But if you are dead, not only are you giving your opponent gold, but you also can't get gold yourself so you are not contributing to winning.
If you're 0-5 against your lane opponent and you aren't dying intentionally, you should find a time machine, graciously take it back to the start of your match and AFK out. Take the loss. You deserve it a lot more than your teammates.

Rushing durability as Riven, Fiora, Yasuo, or similar champions just puts you further behind. At best you can get defense boots and hybrid offense/defense items like Maw.
only defence items you need
if your a offensive champ building too much def items will make u useless
will all the pen items we have building too much def items will make u a walk in the park
So be smart and evil and build those 2 items if your behind
vs ap mages
If I'm 0/5 as Fiora, i buy tier 2 boots then start trying to get ravenous hydra. So I have a chance at outplaying them.
