So Ryze is overpowered, right?

He doesn't have a nerf planned in the PBE for 5.11. That has been confirmed by RIot.

You've notice how it was not even at the release of 5.10 when the QQ started. It was only a week later when the patch hit the LCS. And By that time, The 5.11 cycle changes are Fixed. So they have to wait until the next patch cycle.

And no, I don't think the will/should hotfix this.

Yeah? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a2W2coWHXjg&feature=youtu.be&t=2670

Explain why Ryze is able to do this at LCS level and is NOT worthy of a hotfix.

You're completely correct. I'm pretty sure what you said is exactly what happened.

In my opinion, as someone on the Ryze freelo train, I think the best counter to him would be Olaf. I just played Olaf into Ryze, since someone picked him before I did, and he couldnt do anything.

Everytime I come into lane, I'd just ult and chase him down, either burn his flash or get a kill. Idk the higher elo reason as to choosing Irelia or Chogath instead of Olaf.

Can someone give some insight?

My guess is that Olaf is a lane counter, sure, but the other two fit better into teams for the most part. Ryze isn't going to be using his CC on Olaf if he can help it, especially in teamfights. Cho'Gath silence can shut Ryze down for his entire team, not just for himself like Olaf. Irelia because her passive gives her tenacity, and generally bruisers with targeted gap closers do well vs. immobile mages in top lane.

many nerfs aren't put on PBE; PBE is basically a bug test environment, not a balance change environment. Check previous PBE cycles and compare them with the corresponding patches, there are often changes that don't get put on PBE. Also they said the nerfs should be announced soon, which makes me think they might have a PBE patch later today, or they'll just put nerfs into the patch without posting them on PBE

They've confirmed that Ryze isn't getting nerfed in 5.11 or before.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a2W2coWHXjg&list=PLPZ7h6L6LC7U9_nWdggcAwYIEoNERNBq7&index=17 At the end of the match, Jatt says Ryze needs to be nerfed. A few minutes into the analyst part has them saying they see nothing in the near future about Ryze nerfs.

Zirene and Phreak aren't designers. Phreak might have a bit more inside knowledge on upcoming balance changes, but he's not part of the team. Meddler and Repertoir both stated they have nerfs that would be coming soon

TurquoiseYoshi1 votes

Soon can mean 8 patches from now, or tomorrow. You never really know with Riot.

MrBuffington1 votes

If they're talking balance changes, it's usually next patch or the one after that. If it's a rework or something, it's like, within the next two years.

Since they said they were ready to announce them, it seemed like it was 5.11, but it's also kind of late in the cycle, so it could also be 5.12, or it could just skip PBE and be in the patch anyways, that has also happened before.

EDIT: Also, Phreak didn't seem like he knew about the nerfs that Meddler and Repertoir have planned

I'm expecting 5.12 because of the stuff about the patch cycle. Thing is, normally there are a few weeks between patches. So people have to deal with broken Ryze for a few more weeks.

MrBuffington1 votes

It's possible; guess we'll find out on Wednesday, unless they release a PBE patch for 5.11 tonight or tomorrow

Check previous PBE cycles and compare them with the corresponding patches, there are often changes that don't get put on PBE.

The vast majority of these are actually put on the PBE, but they aren't easily detected by datamining. It's worth remembering that the PBE patch notes we have do not come from Riot, only from outside software that tries to detect numerical and text changes, so changes that don't appear in a tooltip are hard for datamining to detect. For example, there is a change to LeBlanc's W speed on the PBE, but it wasn't detected by the software and had to be manually added to the PBE patch notes after PBE players started pointing it out.

The changes are still on the PBE so that the champions can be bugtested. It's really very, very rare for any changes to hit live without being on the PBE first. The thing is, they don't want to put things directly onto live because when they've done that in the past, they've actually introduced bugs which caused major problems. They've avoided doing this as much as possible since then.

Also they said the nerfs should be announced soon, which makes me think they might have a PBE patch later today,

Not possible. The day when 5.11 will come has already been announced. There isn't enough time to put something on the PBE and still ensure stability for the live version. They never do PBE changes this close to the live release.

good to know, thanks

Naw his ban-rate is so high that he actually has like 0% win rate

OxBaker1 votes

I know it's not a popular opinion but I'm glad Riot didn't give in to the forum sheep and do knee jerk nerfs based on a few videos that were blown out of proportion. Fact is that Ryze win rate is still below 50% and he still does less damage than average and has a lower K/D ratio than other champs on average.

Sure he's annoying if the stars align just right in order for you to pull off one of the combos you see in the videos but at least at my elo all the Ryze players seem to be more of a detriment to their teams than some perma-snare hyper carry like you see in the videos.

Here's the thing about Ryze: He is much more disruptive in pro play than in solo queue.

If you look at his metrics in Plat+ ranked, he looks like a pretty middle of the road champ: 50% win rate, slightly above average damage and kills, slightly below average assist, deaths, damage taken, and gold. When he doesn't have a coordinated team to protect him, he is pretty vulnerable.

If you look at the forums before LCS is was pretty evenly divided between him being OP and UP. Oh, and that chain snare thing everyone is complaining about? He's been able to do that since 5.8. So it is only recently that it became clear that he needed some adjustment, then they have to figure out how to nerf what makes him a problem without ruining him.
