Don't stop fighting

You think Autofill is stupid? Think that season 6's queue system worked perfectly fine (pick primary and secondary, queue will try to get you primary, but you're guaranteed one of your two roles)? Don't mind waiting longer to play the roles you want to play? Don't go silent. Keep fighting. I don't care if you get autofill protection for autofilling a game, if you're a one-trick then you get 2 games kinda-sorta protection for a loss. We fought for our solo queue to return, but all we got is a perversion of it.

Don't go silent. Keep fighting. I'm not at all pleased that my placement matches are going to be skewed because I get to play support 4/10 games. I got Plat 3 in preseason as my placement, now I'm an entire tier lower. Placements are hell, climbing is hell, it's high stress for everybody - It's not fun. But remember, don't tilt - If you tilt, that's your fault! [slayer-jinx-unamused]

Autofill is necessary. There is a high demand, low supply for support players. If autofill isn't used, queue times could skyrocket. And by skyrocket, I mean to hours. There would be a huge bottleneck; hundreds or thousands of games would be on hold, likely more. So yeah, Autofill is a necessary evil.

Also, some things in your statement are wrong. If you are a one trick, I recommend diversifying your roles- you can't always do that one thing. And when you get autofilled, you get protection for five games. Not two, not two kinda-sorta, five. Similarly, I'm not sure how exactly you got autofilled 4/10 games. 1 autofill game = 5 games protected. The maximum games you could be autofilled is two, and likely you wouldn't even get it that much. Also, you could just learn support. I know I will likely get downvoted for this, but learning support is not a bad thing. It teaches you to ward effectively, how to play from behind (because you never have the same amount of gold as the enemy ADC) and teaches you some good decision making; If you don't do this all right, FLAME ON.

Autofill being on for your placements measures you as a player, not just as a master of one champion. Don't get me wrong, you should be maining a champion- but one-tricking leads to many problems.

TL;DR: Autofill is necessary for queue times not to be insanely long; There are some holes in this post; Learning support is good; One-tricking only leads to pain. Pain leads to suffering. Suffering leads to hate. And hate... leads to the DARK SIDE. Or something.

You're assuming that every game goes through with the autofill protection - The protection only works for getting in the lobby. If it gets dodged, then that's one game gone. And guess how many people wind up dodging because of autofill? Lots. I got 1-2 games of autofill protection for every autofill game, and had a wonderful 5/5 placement that put me in the middle of Gold, meanwhile my 8/2 Flex queue in preseason where I primarily got my role by some stroke of dumb luck, saw me placed in Plat 3.

I'll preach it 'till the end. I will happily wait hours for a game of League if it means I'm going to play a role I know. Support teaches handy skills, yes, but they're skills I already have. I know how to play passive and play from behind, I know how and where to ward around the map, I know zoning and lane pressure and all that good stuff. Support is still more than that, and has an entirely different dynamic, an entirely different set of rules as opposed to every single other role. It's not something I enjoy, nor is it something I am willing to learn, it is 1/5 roles and I can play 3/5 roles at my current level (barring the fresh season, high Plat). I'm a low-gold ADC and a bronze Support. Others are high-plat supports and low-gold junglers or bronze mid laners. I fill my niche, and I want to be ranked on my niche, not on my jack-of-all-trades skills.

Season 6's queue system where you put your desired two roles, and have a primary and secondary (not just two of equal importance that doesn't even matter half the time) worked fine. I had maybe a 5-6 minute queue in platinum, would have probably jumped to 15-20 in Diamond and longer for Master+, but I'll always prefer a longer queue time for a guaranteed role than a shorter queue time for a gamble.

TLDR; Autofill is blind pick but you don't get a chance to call your role. Basic support skills are learned in any role and always applied at high level, advanced support skills are demanded in high level play and shouldn't be required or demanded of anybody who doesn't play bot lane (synergy is demanded there). Season 6's q was far superior. One-tricking is for strict niche players and they deserve a place in ranked, this queue tells them to piss off.

You make good points. I'm glad that you're having a discussion with me rather than just blindly downvoting. Do dodges really get consumed by dodges? That is monumentally stupid. I'm down in silver, so as far as I have played there aren't that many dodges. Anyway, I realize that you're happy to wait hours (in theory) but if an option for autofill disable was available, everyone would do it, and then there would be nobody playing with autofill on. Eventually, like I said, a bottleneck would form, and nobody wants that, am I right? I actually used to be a support main, and I feel the pain of a bad ADC. I stopped playing support because of that, and my plan is to climb to the level at which ADC's understand what to do with a support (when you engage as Thresh and the ADC doesn't follow up and instead leaves you to die then flames you for feeding the enemy, aaaarghhhhh) using top. So yeah, Autofill sucks, but we need it so that we can actually play. Also, it might just be my rank, but I find playing with onetricks to be a terrible experience. Just my two cents.

TL;DR: Advanced supporting skills are beneficial but not required, sorry if you misunderstood me on that. I wasn't really around in S6 mostly, I hopped in during the last quarter after a LONG hiatus. So yeah, you're entitled to your opinion and I'm entitled to mine, but the way I think is just work around the system which is kinda shitty but also necessary for queue times; I for one don't have the time to wait for an hour just for one game. One-tricking is fine and all, but unless they have a backup if/when their champ gets banned they're up a creek without a paddle.

TL;DR for the TL;DR cause I made it too long: Support skills = good but not required, see above post for why autofill is not good but needed, one-tricking is K but at least two-trick for when one gets banned please. Diversity of opinions = good. :)

See, in Season 6, autofill was an option. People in high ELO would put their preferred role first and then select autofill, and talk out who gets what when they get in the lobby (high elo being master and challenger, with a fair few diamonds doing it too). It's always been an option, and nobody complained about it. In fact, people could queue as support and have a secondary autofill, and not get support. I never experienced long queue times, but I recognize the possibility. The fact there's a possibility means it should be addressed when it happens, not fix what isn't broken before that reality comes to pass.

I guess it just frustrates me. I think there's still an autofill option in the role selection, and the kicker is if I wanted to autofill, I'd select it. It wasn't just some ignored feature, it was used by the people that didn't care what their role was, and wasn't used by the people that did. It offered actual options in what your ranked play was like, and now it's a spin-the-bottle thing. I'm actually not sure if I'm going to continue with ranked this season because, knowing Riot, this feature is going to stay all year, but I'm still going to fight against it.

TLDR; We shouldn't have a gun to our heads with the order "PLAY ANYTHING". We should have a choice, League is about choices and right now the options given to us are lose, troll, or dodge. That isn't fair.
