Sion was my most favourite top laner to play with back in s5 , but right now i just dont feel like it not because i don't like him anymore , it is because he doesnt do well in this meta anymore and he has been like that since the shield nerf back in mid season 5 i agree you nerfed his E because it was insanely op , but his shield is useless at the early levels , i mean it gets exploded by 1 auto from a champion and few minion shots , and he also dont get the nasus treatment .. since the shield nerf sion dropped from being a good meta tank into a below balanced champion , it was the only ability that make him able to trade since it was harder to escape from than his other abilities , his abilities are way too easy to dodge them for so many champs aka vayne lucian riven and garen can just q towards him and stop him from channeling , Fiora also can shit on him in lane and so does Gp . you nerfed frozen heart which was one of his core items , many sion builds rely on that item due to the mana cost on his W . i suggest you buff again the w shield strength and reduce mana cost . This option will allow him to get some beef back into his lvl 1 shield and gives him the flexibility to max e early without gimping his mid game teamfight. Maintaining the 3s delay will keep it from being as oppressive as in his glory days. Probably not a good idea given how oppressive e max can be, but would strengthen his ability to handle mobile and ranged opponents q max can't handle.

  • Make e a 1 point wonder. Sion's strength in lane is his cc combo of e slow into q slam. As it stands though, that combo is difficult to pull off unless you max e first, which gimps the aoe teamfight tools of his q and w. Lvl 1 e has double the cd of maxed q and a somewhat weak 40% slow, which is part of why people max e. If you want to favor the q>w>e skill order, reducing the lvl 1 cd or setting the slow to a flat 50% would be good ways to make it useful in lane even if you max q first. Sion should be buffed at least a little bit , he is just so off meta right now .. sion just feels like sol right now , great rework that took them almost 1 year and a half to do then no one is playing him . Sorry for the wall of text and my bad english !

Sion's not too bad right now. But I do think he's a classic example of a champion who had his kit nerfed multiple times when items were actually the problem. So when those items inevitably got nerfed, he came out a little worse for wear.

If there's a big problem with Sion's design, I think it's just that his power curve is really wonky. His early game laning is oppressively strong, but he falls off very hard, even in the mid game. After the repeated nerfs to his E, pretty much all of his damage is loaded into his Q and the shield's %health. So once you're level 9, your damage stops meaningfully scaling.

You might say that tanks shouldn't be doing much damage to begin with, and that's true to an extent. But compared to other true tanks (Sej, Zac, Naut) his late game damage is pathetic. Having no damage threat means the enemy team doesn't have any reason to attack you. A lot of times the enemy team just ignores me until all my allies are dead.

I think giving his Q a small health-scaling ratio (comparably to Sejuani's or Braum's) would help a lot. The ability is incredibly hard to land to begin with. Giving it some late game damage threat doesn't seem crazy to me. In return, I think Riot could shave off some of the ability's base value, which would make him less of a head ache to lane against for the first 10-15 minutes.
