Thank you Riot Repertoir

I just wanted to thank Riot Repertoir for his heroic effort last night responding, answering and addressing many of our questions and concerns about topics he could speak properly about. I never imagined my poorly worded, grossly oversized monster of a post would get as much attention as it did, least of all a response from a Rioter.

109 red responses in his own thread in one night (after working all day), mostly his (with a few ones from Meddler, don't think I didn't see you sneak in there :p).

Just... Damn.

I just wanted to make this post here to thank you for that, and I hope to see a lot of this consistently moving forward between the developers and the players, because that was the most civil well-thought out discussion I've seen on here in a long time. And it's not even been 24 hours as the time I'm writing this, and the response has been overwhelming, almost all of it positive and productive!

Give this an upvote or comment, doesn't really matter as long as we get him to see this :)

If this sort of thing happens more frequently, then maybe people like Repertoir won't have to spend hours at night responding. A short chunk of time here and there over the course of a week would yield similar if not better results, both immediately and moving forward, by placating playerbases while also granting developers access to the thoughts of their fans before shit hits the fan when something goes wrong.

Maybe we could make a place akin to "Dev Corner", but instead of how it is currently, have it set up for developers and artist etc to let people know what they've worked on, and what they're working on. That way questions can be addressed to the right people, and developers can focus on feedback and ideas that pertain directly to them, rather than having to sift through the mountain of information that comes through the boards.

I've tried finding a way to contact Riot directly regarding some skills I have that I would happily help you guys out with, not even thinking of compensation, to help faciliate communication on a natural, clear manner between both players and developers. Frustratingly it proves extremely difficult to get anywhere with that, but I can understand (with the potential of 67.1 million prank callers/bad-joke email senders).

This is the right step forward, and already I've heard from a lot of people how much they respected to hear back from the developer's side of things. Even when it wasn't what people wanted to hear, they still were happy because the smokey barrier had been lowered.

I can't wait to see what we can do to improve communication from all our sides in the future.

For the developer's hard work. For the player's passion. For the love of the game we all share.

From one person to another, Thank you

Repertoir has been putting in mad work, the boards definitely wouldn't be the same without him.

I'm eager to work on Ryze, because I always want to go back and fix things I feel could be better.

I'd probably avoid working on Vladimir, because I don't personally feel like I vibe well with the character he's trying to be, and that could cause me to make a champion for myself and not Vlad players.

For some reason, this particular response by RiotRepertoir I just found to be absolutely... Respectable. +1 RiotRepertoir.

(For clarification, he was responding to a comment about which mages, if he had a choice, he wanted to work on for the Mage Update.)

Edit: I stole Frozen Beauty's FTFY

I just wish people respected repertoir enough to read his answers before posting a question. 109 riot responses is a shit ton, but without all the repeat questions about skarner and taric and the mage update i bet that number could have been more like 40 with the same impact. PSA: there is a button on the left after a rioter posts on a thread called "riot rundown" so you can quickly see what was asked and answered already.

Mad respect to Repertoir on answering all those questions though! (yea and Meddler too)

I hope some others designers can also do something like this. There are some others designers I would also love to hear such things from.

I would especially like (in a positive way) to have one with CertainlyT. No matter if you like his designs or not (I do), you have to admit that they are creative. I would love to know how he gets such ideas as Graves' shotgun or bot lane Morde, and why he makes the decisions he has made (as he has made some controversial ones).

All champion designers would be great to talk with, but I just wonder so much what goes on in CT's mind.

A good damn effort it was, not something you see everyday.

The problem that i have now is that the community now will expect more discussions like there, while in truth they are quite extraordinary. Even more extraordinary if we consider that this dude just showed up and started of its own initiative, after feeling that there it was a need.

What i am saying is... make treasure of it. Many times people complains that no one listens or that there is no feedback trade and trashes the value of all these efforts in the bin. Repertoir is not the only one that does this effort, and this is not the first of its kind, and i am very confident it will not be the last ( even thought we won' t see a lot from Rep after this effort - months of work for us can be an eternity, but for development process and jobs in general it can be the blink of an eye).

Hey, as great as RR is (and he truly is, spending all that time and effort answering our questions as best I can), I still want to thank you specifically, HIMM Sandwich for prompting his actions. Granted, you're not the only one in the past who's tried to reach out to the Dev's and establish a greater level of player-developer communication, but still from the deepest corner of my League loving heart...

Thank you for keeping the dream alive HIMM Sandwich.

Unfortunately my post wasn't answered, but eh, most of other posts covered my questions anyways.

Btw Rioter Repertoir in 1 night just broke new record of number of posts made by single Rioter in 5 years.

Honestly, your response to this makes me kind of angry.

It's good for you to appreciate what they did, but it should not have been necessary. People who come to the boards occasionally (or are new) assume that Riot doesn't communicate. In fact, they are just working hard on the stuff we want in the game and are listening and communicating when they can.

It isn't reasonable to come onto the boards and demand a heroic act of sacrifice every time someone feels bad about Riot. They're doing a great job around the clock, and the only thing actions like that are going to accomplish, in the long run, is wearing these guys out. They've got work to do, and every minute they are talking to us is another minute they aren't working on the game (or recharging so they can do their best working on the game).

To those of us that occasionally try very hard to start up a well-spoken, well-thought thread in order to get Riot to communicate on good terms, I'm annoyed that they strategy of "calling them out" on their communication worked. Good on RiotRep, I'm glad he has a better attitude than me. But that's some entitlement right there, if you ask me.

Riot Repertoir is like the best Rioter out there :)

Well..if only more would follow his example. Still, thumbs up for Repertoir

I <3 Riot Repertoir. His commitment to the community, and extra work put in is remarkable!

I'm grateful for so many responses from him and taking out so much time from his work to answer us but I am left a bit worried with some of his answers. I tried asking him about those worries I have but didn't get a response. I just hope that he got to read my post so Riot don't go making a huge mistake.

I dislike Repertoir, I feel like he's another one of those idiots in the balance teams who have no clue what they're doing.

I mean he's the one who reworked Quinn and look how cancerous she is

Glad someone made a post like that, but I think most other Rioter deserve a thank you, not just Repertoir ;)

NinjaGuy691/8/2016, 8:40:37 PM1 votes

I agree with much of the sentiment in this thread thus far. I think it's a shame that Riot publicizes employees such as Scarizard, Jagg and CertainlyT who are frankly bad at their jobs while not giving much attention to the righteous Dark Knight of the League Boards - Repertoir. He read through pages and pages of information and did his best to give honest, meaningful responses, which is a lot more than some of his senior Rioters have done for the community. Unfortunately, many people in the community lump all Riot employees together in one big group and contemptuously dismiss them all. Hopefully, though, actions like this will prompt more Rioters to cut the bs and start being a lot more transparent and honest in the near future about not only their intentions and successes but their shortcomings and failures as well.

+1 for the people's champion Riot Repertoir.

I wish they could just make more of these in the future..

Over Innsmouth1/8/2016, 9:52:14 PM1 votes

Oh I saw it, I was replying to it :P About the he likes Ryze but dislikes (doesnt grasp the playstyle and identity of) Vlad?

Taarki1/8/2016, 11:05:49 PM1 votes

Since they probably already have to write reports, why doesn't riot make it so that they should write a 3-4 sentence summery of the project they are working on and then post it to the boards. That way people know what is being worked on and we also have that communication with the developers.

DELI MEATS1/8/2016, 11:41:25 PM1 votes

Riot could most definitely use an ombudsman.

Electro5221/9/2016, 5:16:26 AM1 votes

From my point of view, I don't think he did this out of being nudged towards or felt he was asked by the community in order to do this. I think he did it out of frustration.

HIMM, you said players are frustrated due to the "lack" of communication on Riot's side. However, has anyone ever thought that maybe, just maybe, the human nature in Riot employees may leak out a bit, and they actually show their own frustration towards the community? Hearing day in and day out that the projects you have worked on for months is considered a failure in the eyes of millions of people ought to push the buttons of even the most stern and unmoving individuals.

Repertoir's thread wasn't to calm the nerves of the community, it was to calm his own, and the way he typed his response on your own thread addressing the problem, and the amount of work he put into his thread reflects this. How do I know? Because I do it myself.

Sometimes I get so damn frustrated by something that I make every effort possible with the amount of power I have to make damn well sure that it never happens again.

Repertoir didn't do this for all of us, he did it so that maybe, just maybe, he can calm the fires this community so lovingly made in order to keep his own sanity in check. Will it last forever? Of course not. In fact, his entire effort will be forgotten by next week when we start a new patch cycle with a new champion, and this endless, toxic cycle will start anew with so many people complaining day in and day out of how Riot is digging their own grave.

But hey, at least he got to see some peace of mind for the weekend!

Silents4291/9/2016, 6:02:25 AM1 votes

You know what the best part is?

Next week everyone forgets he even did that big ass thread, and then another topic just like yours crops up and we are back to where we started.

I mean nothing changed the last few dozen times I have read big Q&A threads like that, why would this one be different?

Downvote if you want, but this is the truth, it happens all the time.
