Viable supports?

So, last night I played a game as ADC (vayne) and my support chose Teemo taking flash and tp for spells. IMO, Teemo is not a viable support whatsoever. He has nothing that supports his ADC. Sure, he has a blind, but what good is that? A support, IMO, should have either a heal OR decent cc. Teemo is about self preservation. He has increased movement speed (w), and all of his other abilities are damage based, not to mention his shrooms and poison that most of the time get that last bit of health to possibly ks the ADC.

My question to you all, would you consider him a viable support? Why or why not? Are there other champs out of the norm that you would consider a support (he tried to come up with Darius and Rengar as viable supports and I personally call bullsh*t)?

Edit: For the record, I am a main support. Main Nami, also use Leona, Thresh, and Braum. In the process of getting Lulu and Morg.

Any champion CAN support, just like any champion CAN carry. That being said, there is a difference between one who is supporting and a support.

At their core, a support is all about one thing. Helping their adc. Its not about weakening the enemy team, its about making your side stronger. There are many ways to do this. Sona and Soraka keep their adc's health topped off. Blitzcrank and Leona set up kills for their carry. Braum and Alistar peel like no tomorrow. Even the unconventional supports still do something. Annie brings her CC, Vel'koz can peel, lux can shield, etc.

More to the point, Teemo is not a support. He CAN support, but he is not one. He does not bring anything to the carry.

To me, he is very viable. I think that he counters a lot of poke heavy teams bot lane. His shrooms are also mini wards....so he's pretty good. janna is very strong against someone like Blitzcrank/Thresh/Leona. Blitzcrank/Thresh/Leona is good against a passive team such as a Nidalee/Soraka support. Nami and Braum are all around very good picks, Braum for slowing CC and tankiness, defensive stats. Nami for hard CC like the bubble and healing utility. Soraka is good against poke heavy teams too, such as a Caitlin or Tristana.

Sure, he has a lot of poke, but any ADC can have that on their own. If you already have poke in your lane, why do you need a support who has only that? And his shrooms provide very minimal warding, much like Cait's traps. As an ADC, I would much rather have a support who is going to provide cc or healz. All of the others you listed are very normal/common supports. Nothing out of the norm there.

Yeah...so they are viable? I though you were just asking who the viable supports were. And Nidalee support is no common pick.Nidalee Oh and Lissandra is VERY STRONG as a support.

BADxW0LF1 votes

I was asking for viable supports out of the norm. As in they are not normally considered support champs.

I have seen Nidalee picked quite often, although I do not like her as a support, personally. Too much damage dealing potential and not enough "supporting". Poking is all well and good, but a good support should have enough healing and/or cc. I am a Nami main and love her poke, but she also has the healz AND the cc to actually support her ADC.

Teemo's shrooms individually may not provide as much vision as a single ward, but one should remember that any one player can only put down 4 wards (3 Stealth Wards and 1 Vision ward) while Teemo with 3 points in R can have up to 40 shrooms on the map (however unlikely that is to occur). Saying that his shrooms provide minimal warding is just false, and I'm not trying to randomly defend Teemo or anything. I haven't even played as Teemo before, but Teemo shrooms collectively do not provide "very minimal warding" as you assert they do.

Teemo supports you by securing the kill that you didn't get when they ran under their turret with 20 hp. I build full ap/glass cannon when i support bot. the poison eats away at them, and if they have heavy engage i use my global taunt to keep them off the adc while i kite them away. (works especially well with vayne cuz of condem into wall).

Supports shouldn't get kills. Ever.

ParinoidPanda2 votes

You greedy adc you. Kills are part of the game. If the support gets some, good for them, and you get assist gold where you would have got none. Assuming the support spend their windfall correctly, that means they can support more effectively and win lane for you better. A fed support makes life easier for their adc to farm.

BADxW0LF1 votes

More often than not, I have seen Teemo always ks because of his stupid poison and shrooms. The ADC is the one who should be getting the kills and the support should be doing everything in his/her power to ensure that. Teemo is a little rat who's poison makes it difficult to achieve that. Ok, so a support can get kills, but should never be the primary source of them, and if other adc/support has good disengage, but Teemo has his poison on him, sucks to be your adc. I hate supports who have more kills than the adc. That's not their job. I must just consistently get assholes for Teemos because every single one who has been a support has taken a majority of the kills. ADCs should be getting the kills and the farm. That's the whole point of the adc.

Anomander2 votes

Ummm and when the support just lets them walk away because you didn't secure it you WILL RAGE at them. This attitude of supports should not get kills is blatantly false. You do what you need to secure the kills. Is is better for a carry either apc bruiser or adc to get it yes. But you always try to secure the kill.

Eawaf1 votes

If you don't secure the kill before the support gets it, that's your fault imo. Teemo provides much poke/burn as well as another damage source for late game. As long as you have a tanky top or jungle this composition can work very well. As support teemo already buys some wards, including the shrooms that is extra control on the dragon side.

BADxW0LF1 votes

All Teemos are notorious for KSing. I have never met one who doesn't because of his stupid poison.

Anomander1 votes

Ks'ing is not done via poison that is just idiocy. Ks'ing is using a additional ability of high damage to STEAL a kill. If his poison took the kill then you did not SECURE the kill.

ParinoidPanda1 votes

I'd situationally accept teemo as a support if the adc brings the cc. Is a classic kill lane, so it will work just as well as a support fizz who can also ward.

Unnecessary thread, just report him and move on.

I was asking the opinion of whehter people consider him a viable support or not and the opinions of others. Pretty sure it wasn't against him completely. I was just telling a story. It was about the champ. Deal with it and don't read if you think it's unnecessary.

Teemo is a good support in the right hands. As bot support he should shroom the river and key locations in near-jungle to negate gank potential. This is extremely beneficial and can, in itself be a critical strategy that gives his team the edge. Not being able to gank bot because of the shrooms' roles as both extra wards and negative reinforcement for the enemy jungler is not to be underestimated. However, a teemo that merely shrooms lane is a crap player. Definitely not supporting anything but himself. And blind is pretty epic in so many situations imo. Teemo in the right hands can be a really excellent support.

tankmo support. because of your global taunt, you'll soak up all the damage while your adc kills everyone. some people take vel'koz as a support for a poke/kill lane. because of his lack of mobility, it's probably best to also build him like a tank

Orangesilk1 votes

Well, since you want your supports to be tanky ccers who do nothing but ward and feed you then the list of viable supports is very small. Kill lanes are very viable, because team gold is a more important stat than ADC gold, because assists are good money, because a dead ADC is hopelessly behind in farm and xp.

You look likd the kind of adc who bitches at junglers who secure kills.

BADxW0LF1 votes

Thanks for judging when you've never played with me. I applaud junglers who get kills, so long as their gank is well received. If it is unnecessary, stay out of my lane and gank a lane that needs it.

Nowhere in my post does it say anything about being tanky.

Get over people obsession with the meta and learn to play difference combos. Teemo Quinn bot lane shuts down aa teams HARD.

I think Teemo makes a better ADC than he does support. If you are looking for oddball supports, I think Vel Koz is one of the best. Great pokes that do a decent amount of damage, that also slow. He has E which if timed right, knocks a champion up, and back, stopping any kind of all in. His W is great for poking and unleashing his passive, which works great at bringing down a support with true damage.

Finally a lot of players seem to then forget his ult. This slows down the enemy, does massive damage, and has a very good range. The only problem is you end up KS a lot of the time with Vel Koz because of this.... however it's not so bad. Come late game Vel Koz becomes not only a good warding supp, but also a damage dealing threat that needs to be acknowledged and targeted just as much as the ADC, top, or mid.

Teemo is an excellent kill lane support. His poison racks up spellthief charges and his blind negates any all in. A teemo support is hell for the opposing team.

PimperGnome1 votes

Yes he's viable...just not great. No such thing as KSing...this isn't kindergarten. Stop being selfish...BTW...I've seen some amazing Rengar supports.

BADxW0LF1 votes

When you're a Teemo support, it is KS. I'm not being selfish, I'm playing smart.

LOL no..it's not. There's no such thing as a kill steal...it's a team game. When you learn this...you'll get better. Until then...you're going to squalor.

Teemo gets the kill...you get the assist gold...you free farm CS while your opponent ADC is getting nothing waiting to respawn and run back to lane and you're both up a bunch of gold. Like I said...stop being selfish.

BADxW0LF1 votes

Fine, but if that is all he is bringing to the table, then I would much rather have a support who will support me. Call me selfish or whatever, but that is my opinion of what a support needs to be for his team. Setting up kills. Not getting them. If he so happens to get 2 or 3, so be it. It happens. Any more than that is just annoying as a support.

Keep in mind I main support and I will always set up my adc to get kills. The only reason I get a kill is if adc is out of range or needs to get out of turret range. Or even heal him/her when playing nami and get the heal bounce.

Eawaf1 votes

@BADxWoLF. If that's what you want in a Support then don't ever play w/me.

Support in that form should not exist imo. And Riot went along way to get rid of that support from s3 to s4 by putting in the ward limit of 3 per champ at a time. The days of the role of 'support' being confined to building mikails and sightstone while offering nothing else outside of their kit is over. Spending all the money on wards is over. The role has opened up to many more champs able to play in many different ways.

Support Mains. . . Teemo apc, ashe slow/utility, leona sunfire apc fiddle alistar poppy.

BADxW0LF1 votes

You have no idea of my play style. I would enjoy a round playing against you, showing you that that style of play should exist. And what are you talking about? Riot added income items and better support items to keep the role of support around. If you think change the number of wards per champ is something that would get rid of support completely, then you are doing LoL wrong. There are some great support items out there: Twin Shadows, Ardent Censer, Zeke's Herald, all income items, Randuin's Omen, etc. There are plenty of support items for supports besides wards. I never buy multiple wards. The first items I get when I recall are sightstone, next level income item, and pink ward. That is it for wards for me. No need to excessively buy wards.

Get an adc friend, I've got mine. We'll go a round or two and you can attempt to prove me wrong.
