Darius is not OP and here is how you deal with him

Many times I hear the enemy team saying Darius bustedddd. Recently I've been seeing it more on Boards too so I have decided to make a short guide on how to deal with him (coming from a Dar main)

He is not OP and has some glaring weaknesses that you need to take advantage of if you want to win.

If you are a tank, do not even think about fighting him early game without your jungler, save your cc to disengage.

DO NOT 1v1 him level 1 unless you are Riven Olaf Trundle or Fiora and Yasuo (if you play these two right). I get a cheesy fb in about half my ranked games in gold-plat elo because some poppy top decided to get into a straight up AA fight level 1.

Many darius players use ghost so they have to sacrifice map presence. Use that to your advantage. If you get low in lane don't be afraid to back teleport back with items and full health or to teleport and gank bot/take drag.

Darius also does really well in long trades but not short trades, which is why champs like Riven excel against him. If he pulls you, cc him attack him once or twice and dip out if you have that type of kit, which most champs should have. Do not use your cc and gap closers to engage on Darius unless you are sure you can win. For example, if I pull a Riven and she w's me and q's a couple of times then e's away, I lost that trade in a big way and I have no way to retaliate. If on the other hand, the riven dashes towards me, stuns me, and I slow her with my w, q and pull her back in, I can kill her.

Darius is obviously very vulnerable to ganks as well. Some games I just get super tilted because an enemy lee sin or vi keeps camping me and there is absolutely NOTHING i can do about it. It is even easier to gank him if the enemy top has inherent CC. However, gank him early and do not wait until he is fed or he can 1v2 with his passive and ult. Darius also pushes wave if he wants to use his q to harass, making him an even easier target.

Also, do not try to "bait" a Darius unless you are ahead and have a way to disengage. This means if your jungler is chilling in the bush do not try to go in on the Darius first and make him commit. If you do, chances are Darius already has 3 or 4 stacks on you by the time your jungler comes to your aid. One more aa or q boom dunk. boom aa your jungler dunk. Darius double kill. Many times I already have 5 stacks on the enemy Nasus when the jungler tries to help and I just double. Try to go in with less than two stacks with your jungler and Darius is done for.

Also Darius gets completely shit on by aa based melees midgame and late game such as MasterYi XinZhao Shyvana . He also has no way of catching up to champs like Ezreal Vayne

Lastly if you see him glowing red, dip out ASAP.

He's recent strength is primarily due to meta-shifts (i.e. Maokai, Poppy and Nautilus gaining popularity in top-lane).

His strengths, weaknesses and counters are unchanged from a month ago when he was considered weak (due to the prevalence of Kennen and Jayce top).

Thanks for this, I honestly had a lot of trouble with Darius and he is one of the champions that I had no idea how to fight or build against. Even using this I still think he is op but these are some good tips to know for when I do end up against him top lane. Usually if I'm top lane and some one picks Darius then I just pick a ranged champion just so I don't have to get close to him and can farm from a distance, though I personally don't like to play ranged top laners.

So If you are against a Darius, would you just build your normal build? I've had friends tell me when I'm playing a fighter/tank into Darius that I should just build tank against him since I can't out-damage him anyways which I always thought that was a bad idea since Darius doesn't care about Armor since he has build in armor pen and his ult is true damage. I guess you could always build item 3748 since that is a tank item that Darius doesn't ignore since it offers HP.

So I guess if I were to play Renekton, you would suggest to not really try to fight him but farm and stack up my fury on minions and wait for him to pull me in and then Auto>Stun>Auto>Q and then Dash away and wait for that opening to happen again. I guess Renekton could still be one of the few people to still dash on to Darius since he can use 2 Dashes but you don't get a lot of time to use that second dash and if Darius times his pull when you try to dash out then that would be either a kill or a flash from Renekton.
