Bond of Stone and Grasp of the Undying really need some work

Either buffed or replaced completely.

Because right now the Resolve tree works like this.

Do you have Hard CC? Take Courage of the Colossus.

Do you lack Hard CC? Probably a good idea to run Ferocity or Cunning instead.

I think grasp is really underrated, but some tiny buffs to the sustain would be nice.

maybe grasp % damage and / or sustain should scale with level like at level 6 / 11 / 16 or whatever.

its overrated if anything. the keystone is literall fucking shit outside of pre level 6 lane cheese. that is it. if you get a lucky proc that gives you first blood. you win. if not. you're stuck with no keystone.

Maybe it could take less time to charge up a proc? I used to really love Grasp on Shen, Tahm Kench, etc., but now the cd is just too much for me to bother with when I'm trying not to shove too hard and can hardly afford to trade a lot of the time anyhow.

The power in both Grasp and Bond of stone are very much lacking in the appreciability department, Grasp needs love and a cd increase. Bond is just boring, usually useless, as the only people who really want just some extra health over any of the other keystones are none, not because it's not a balanced amount of health, but because it's just boring, really boring.

Given that we've got an item that's literally Bond of Stone but better in every way, I'm really not seeing a compelling reason to keep it. The thing is invisible and uninteractive.

Grasp of the Undying at least has some interactivity to it, but it's way too watered down. I feel like it could be turned into a pure damage or a pure sustain keystone and be better balanced for it.

Actually, if you look at your buff bar, you'll see that you don't get the damage reduction buff unless you're near an ally.

you dont have to be melee range on colossus tho. Just for example, you can throw a full range thresh hook, and not take the hook, but still get the shield.

Just a few chumps that do the 'unlikely.'

Also you should see what happens when Thresh presses Q again after he lands a hook.

Keystones as a whole have missed the mark of promoting play pattern variation and choice. It still comes down to picking the one with the most power, regardless if another aligns to your play pattern more. The Rune and Mastery System needs to go.

This is my main gripe. Of course, if runes and masteries simply vanished it would require massive levels of base stat re-balancing to keep the game from flying apart.

I almost wonder what would happen if there were something like ~30 Masteries and you get to pick three. Set the power level a bit below where Keystones are sitting right now. No trees, just pick the three that are going to best augment your intended play style with a given champ. Try to avoid stuff that just gives raw stats since that's ostensibly what Runes are for.

The removal of the Rune and Mastery System would require an adjustment of power budgets, but I think that it is the only way to address homogenization of roles, classes, and play patterns. I've got an idea on how it can be accomplished.

Xonra2 votes

It was there for a short time, but it just feels like 100% back to how it was pre"rework", except buffed. They didn't like invisible power, but it is all over the place, they didn't like the bottom masteries having so much power, well now they are must take AND are even more powerful. They hated "cookie cutter" builds, when sometimes there are completely useless masteries on certain champions.

It is actually less choice than before the rework, more cookie cutter, and overall stronger. Not sure what the point was in the end lol

Levik2 votes

This is always going to happen when everything is equally available to everyone. It is why support items are feast or famine and why the Rune and Mastery System needs to go. Once balance changes come, raw power is all that matters in the current state of League of Legends.

Xonra2 votes

Well, you aren't wrong, I'll say that. I have slightly varying views on it, and while I do like runes and masteries only because I like the "strategy" outside of the game aspect (though it is becoming less strategy and more "must take"), I can't argue with anything you just said.

No, you're not better off taking Ferocity or Cunning. Slow resistance/tenacity is extremely strong.

I really like Grasp and would much prefer to use it over CoC if they would just increase the output.

It needs to do damage and heal though, that's the point of the mastery. Pure sustain and it just becomes a slightly worse CoC that is sort of better for laning (but not really).

If Grasp was just damage it would be a weaker version of Thunderlords with the only advantage being getting one tier lower in the tree.

Grasp really needs both components.

Xonra2 votes

Trundle is probably the only one I still run down the "tank" tree, despite only his pillar with the knock up being his hard CC (and I usually use it to block more than knock up).

RogueWill1 votes

I honestly like DeathFire Touch on Trundle and run 18/0/12. The only thing I miss is the slow reduction. The deathfire puts a lot of damage on the ganks thanks to the Q low CD. If you are top fervor is probably best thou. You get enough sustain from your passive to get Grasp and you get higher damage from fervor, the pillar is not relaible enough for Courage and bond doesn't work on solo lanes.

Lol try warlord's and thank me later

Having half of a mastery isn't my definition of "working"

badooga2 votes

Yeah, they need to buff the two of them.

Basically:

Grasp: Revert a few of those nerfs. Bond of Stone: Rename it and rework to this - you get armor (and half the mr) each time you get autoattacked, stacking up to 5 times and decaying after exiting combat. If you reach 5 stacks, your next basic attack slows the target.

I'm sure Riot is aware. This is probably the 20th post I've seen about on boards since the Preseason started. I'm sure Riot is thinking about how/when to make changes to the other two.
