Grinded non-stop in solo queue for a month; here's the result.

At around early May I decided to get back into solo queue. I placed in silver II and in two days I made it to plat IV (and no, I'm not making that up, my MMR was outrageously high). Then, a month later, I made it to diamond IV for the first time ever. Most people would be envious of that, but personally I wish I had never gotten back into it. Here's why: first off, I spent SO much time grinding non-stop. Looking back I could of done so many other productive things with that time, but I wasted it all on solo queue. Second, constantly grinding in solo queue made me feel super stressed and extremely anxious. I would constantly have to cross my fingers and hope to god I would get capable teammates. Sometimes I lucked out on the draw, and at other times I would get somebody who would troll, run it down, afk, or just whatever. And this happens a LOT in solo queue. It's a huge problem that has no easy solution, so by subjecting yourself to the grind you're basically signing up for that nonsense. And third and foremost-- I wasn't having any fun. You'd think I would feel somewhat accomplished after making all that progress in such a short amount of time, but no. Instead I felt like ripping my hair out and tossing my PC out the window.

Long story short, don't grind in solo queue. It's not worth your sanity, nor is it worth your precious time. If you're going to play this game do it for the sake of having fun rather than to achieve a high rank just so that you can boast about it. Because one, that's very unattractive, and two, no one's really going to care. People will call you trash if you're in silver, and they'll still call you trash even once you're in diamond. Just don't do it. Take it from someone who's been there and done that.

Yup. Folks should play the game to have fun, but not at the expense of others.

But how do I play for fun? This game is competitive in its nature. Every game is frustrating. Even winning is frustrating.

Solo Q doesn't matter.. once you realize that no one cares about your boarder rank and all it serves is to boost your own ego, ranked becomes pretty pointless.

The problem is that even if you play for fun you end up being oneshoted. Where is the fun ?

Well, i've had a very different experience of grindring games a few years ago, the secret is to not care about the outcome of the game or about your Lps, while still doing your best everytime to remove the errors from your plays and to try to play perfectly.

Lps and climbing comes naturally when you do this. If you are stressed that you will lose Lps, you are not having fun. If your only goal in a game is to learn and be better, every game becomes a personal win even tough your team has lost.

When I was playing starcraft2 I had a progamer teammate that would just leave the ranked game he was in if he did one mistake in the first 8 minuts. Because he would not allow himself to do ANY mistakes at the start of the game.

He soon hitted the top 20 EU and started winning turnaments,

This is a bit extreme and cannot be applied to LoL but it just shows that you should not care about the outcome of a game, care about how you did play.

Same. Exact Same. Only difference is, i only got to gold last season and felt the same way.

Grinding is not fun. At all.

Smurf Playing on a new account = fast ez climb.

make a smurf account and keep it in silver for 2 seasons (~200 games a season) then play to climb. You will see a vastly different experience

I can definitely agree with the fact that it's pointless as someone who has spent the last two seasons grinding since the very start of the season. Looking back I miss older seasons like S4 and S5 but that possibly has to do with the fact that I wasn't playing Ranked at the time and I didn't care about it.

Last season I almost reached D4, this season I reached D3 but then I got demoted back to Plat and honestly it doesn't even matter anymore how high do I climb because it's so god damn stressful. If I'm going to play a game just to get stressed out and anxious then I better not play it at all.
