How to climb elo

Cosmochris··3 votes·812 views

It's really hard not to be matched with bad and toxic players in my elo that only drag me down. Teammates refuse to listen, refuse to communicate, refuse to cooperate, and continue to blame their mistakes on others. Was wondering how I would be able to climb/ carry these type of people with the unbalanced status of the game on top of that? honest question.

The honest answer is you stop crying about your teammates and start playing vs your opponents. The sooner you realise its not your teammates but yourself, the faster you will improve and actually get good at this game. You are bad (not flaming, but if you were to compare yourself to Messi or Ronaldo or Michael Jordan, still think you are good then?) and you have a lot of room to improve.

Main one role and one champion (and maybe a secondary role/champion) and spam the hell out of them. Focus only on your own gameplay, dont mind your team. Stop dying, everytime you die, enemy team will farm and pull ahead. Play until your match history looks like this:

https://prnt.sc/itovwu

and you will be garanteed to climb.

Lol well I'm trying that and still am! I always win lane and help other lanes, but I can't stop my team from 1v5ing, overextending, not grouping, not communicating, and such. If you're calling me bad cause I can't control the other people, then please do tell me how!

I am not saying you are bad because you cant control other people, im saying that you are nowhere near a challenger player, so there is a lot of room to improve. Dont take all the negatives about you, just look at how you can become better and focus on your own plays.

Also dont mind and dont care what other people are doing. If you have a blitzcrank mid, use that. Go to his lane, cc the opponent so he can hook and kill. Alistar top? Go top and use his cc to set up a kill. Dont focus on the bad things, focus on how you can utilize the champions to make things happen.

Lastly, not all games are winnable, and if you think you did your best, then its fine. Go next game and move on. But think of it like this, if a pro player watched your replay and how you played, what advices or what comments do you think they will make?

Yeah there are a lot of things I can improve on but even challenger and LCS players face the same issue I do, except its in even more severity in the elo I'm in. It's not about what I can do, but what the team can do. League is a team oriented game and if 1 or more person isn't with the team, then the game falls apart.

Also we did try to utilize their strengths, but you can only do so much as an alistar top and a blitz mid. You get denied cs and exp, if you get ganked once then you'd have to burn flash or die. I'm not trying to focus on the bad side, I really am. But what I'm looking for is an honest answer as to how I could effectively climb instead of "its you thats bad" or "you learn how to carry". You speak as if each and every champion has the ability to 1v9. If i'm a god-like player at, lets say, zed, I can probably 1v3 but I can't 1v9. I'm also looking for an answer as to how to teach these players how to listen and communicate when being calm and supportive isn't working because they are so tilted. I've seen plenty of pro players play the game and honestly, I've seen better in silver elo, but thats the thing, the game has become so unbalanced that "carrying" is progressively becoming more and more difficult.

Good response, i like that. Yes, even high elo players struggle with your problem and yes not every game is winnable. Just have to recognize which games are and which games are not.

What roles do you main? Here is a specific tip on how to climb. Main one role and one champion only (have secondary role and champion as backup) and spam them. Bruce Lee once said, fear not the man who practice 1000 punches once, but one punch 1000 times.

As a jungle/support i can tell you to lead with examples. Supports like leona, morg, blitz, alistar can gank and win lanes so hard it eventually snowballs the game. But lets say you play morg (your teammates comp doesnt matter). Try your best to win bot and put pressure on your opponent (you are at 90% hp while enemy is at 30%). Force them back, by mobility boots fast, go gank mid. Ward up and always go to your teammates to setup something. Top laner afk farming? Go hide in a bush, wait for enemy team to come and do big turnarounds. Adc is behind and needs to farm? Go 4 man push and let him farm while you make plays with bind and ult.

Always play vs your opponents and if you are good enough, the enemy team will crumble. Every time a enemy adc shows up, he should be afraid of dying, put pressure. If you cant do that, then you are not ready to climb. My blitzcrank can.

Also, buy pink wards, vision win games. At least 3 a game.

PS. Challenger players have to 1v9 diamond/master players. Surely you can 1v9 silvers if you deserve gold? ;-)

Another thing, if a sion in your team, for some odd reason when no one said anything to him or when we weren't even losing by that much, decides to sell 2 of his tank items to buy a triforce, phantom dancer, what can i do so we don't have to lose cause of him? This game i'm talking about, we came back hard as the enemy was throwing and we were getting objectives, but we lost because the sion decided to troll build AND refuse to communicate and cooperate, proven when he sits top as the enemy is in our nexus despite us pinging him and telling him to come back. Literally my team did nothing to trigger him, but he was just triggered.

I have a lot of other stories in which I can prove you wrong in any argument you tell me, whether you tell me I'm bad or not.

How about i ask you this? Can you do anything about the sion player? If no, then go next game, if yes, what could you have done?

Second, could you have done something else to win the game? If no, move on. If yes, what could you have done better?

Did The Maff1 votes

Also seems like you are focusing on specifik bad games. I highly doubt that happens every game, as i myself have climbed out of silver. If there was nothing you couldve done better, move one and go next. Eventually you will achieve 70% winrate, all by yourself, if you are good enough.

Also just had a alistar top playing against a riven/kat (they swapped lanes cause alistar was losing hard) and I'm currently playing with a blitzcrank mid! Can you teach me what to do in this situation?

The easiest way to go about it is not expecting your teammates to be good. Always assume that they are all trash. This way when your mate is indeed terrible, you can say "man this guy is bad, but I knew this would happen" and just shake it off (as Tay Tay would say).

However, if they are good, it will be a pleasant surprise to you, and you can even encourage them so they perform better.

Another reason for this method is that you can focus on your own gameplay, you can analyse it thoroughly, and you might find something to improve on it. I think this is the best advice I can give you other than 'git gud' you know. ;)

Gank bot, roam bot, tp bot, peel for your adc, die for your adc

Be bot

How to climb? Be better than the elo you are currently in. The "my toxic feeding team mates are holding me back" excuse is starting to get old.

It's sadly getting old cause its still the hard truth :/

No it is not true. Look at the winrate of pro player smurfs, they have 90%+ winrate because they are way better than the elo their smurf account is in right now. Why aren't they hold back by their teams? If you can't climb you aren't good enough for it, simple as that.

Cosmochris2 votes

Good point, but if I were to start a new account, I would have a high win rate as well, but I don't have the time and resource for that so I don't. Also I don't get how comparing pro players to silver elo would make sense.

I'm talking about those high winrates after being already placed in ranked. Froggen had a 95% winrate in platinum after he got placed in plat 4, stuff like that. The point comparing the two is that those smurfs have an abnormally high winrate in the same elo like you (or even higher), so the question is, why can they carry and you can't? Why are they not getting hold back by their team? Shouldn't they get inters and feeding botlanes that lose the game all the time aswell? The difference between you and them is that they are better than the elo they are in so it's easy for them to carry and climb. There is nothing that is holding them back, and same goes for you. If you are actually as good as you think you are you would have an easy time climbing just like the smurfs (ofc not with a 90% winrate).

You forget to mention that they were once at his level most likely experiencing the same problem he is- Oh I forgot, If the pro player team DOES feed and hold them back at HIS actual level, then they do lose with no hope in sight. "Look at the pro player smurfs, why don't they feed whiel playing on their smurfs?" (Because that's not their actual skill level).

TO summarize, it may not happen to them on their SMURFS but if it happens at their REAL RANK then yes, they will have a very hard time winning. What would you say to them then? "You're just not good enough for it, simple as that"

Edit: Also to the OP, try switching to a more hard carry-ish champ, yes it sucks- I know but if you gotta carry then you gotta carry- hard style.[sg-miss-fortune]

First is your attitude. If those feelings come out in game and peoples feelings get hurt you will have a hard time. So keep negativity down, and only give positive reinforcement for the good plays. Last advice, remember there is nothing you can do about who you are grouped with. So, every game, remember it is you that has to adjust your playstyle according to your team, not the other way. You can only control what you do.

It will still not be easy but will definatly boost your win % by 10. Good luck!

you play way too many different champions and lanes. Search one up, master it, find a champion pool you enjoy the most with about 3-5 champs and start climbing slowly. The way you play atm wont bring you up at all.

I climbed out of bronze by maining Janna. Now it is probably 10x easier to climb with her.

Climbed out of silver maining Trundle. Bramble vest has made him irrelevant, don't try him.

Master a champion and you will climb.

I was gonna' give you an answer, but looks like you're gold? Did you drop? Where to? What role are you trying to carry with?

ricardo20101 votes

All I know is I can take any rank account and play it to plat 2 easily and then never go up from there except for diamond 5 one time. I've done it multiple times and have the same rank on my main and all the smurfs I played try hard on. People who play the same champ as me can climb to challenger with it though because they are way better at the game.

And yeah, I feel like all my teams are toxic, retarded, stupid, pick bad champs on purpose, and have 0 brains. But I'm stuck as fuck plat 1 wall, strangely it used to be gold 1 wall last season. Sometimes we just have these renaissances where we get way better for a while and then hit a plateau for a couple months.

I aint recommending this per se, but every elo I was ever "duo q boosted" to, Ive been able to climb back to it solo. I guess maybe you can learn by playing with and against better players.
