I just realized the only mid laner I can actually play somewhat decently is Yasuo. I need more options to play mid lane. So far I've been looking at champions like Orianna or Syndra, but does anyone have any specific recommendations as to who to play and your opinions on those two champions? I also played Urgot mid lane sometimes before he got nerfed, so is he viable mid again now that he's gotten those (insane) buffs?

Just an easy pick 
Annie is a cheap burst mage option, and Ziggs is fun to poke with and is somewhat good at pushing via tower demolition.
Orianna is a great all around pick and with practice can fill almost any role your team needs.
I personally also like Swain, but matchups are a thing to look at.
Xerath and Vel'koz are both good wave clear mages that are ez to play, but have lots of room for growth as a player.
I feel like you would like kat considering you play yasuo, she is hard countered by cc tho but shes a very very fun champion who can delete just as easily as yasuo. Also feel like you might like akali? but shes in a pretty bad spot rn, hopefully she gets some help soon
