Can we give Ignite the same damage indicator Smite has?

DuskDaUmbreon··60 votes·14,508 views

As the title says.

summoner 11 has an indicator in its buff bar that shows its damage. Nice, basic, and helps out junglers a little bit, especially newer ones.

Can we give summoner 14 the same thing? Just a small little icon in the buff bar that shows its total damage? The specific number is important (as it is for smite), as it can very well determine whether or not you get a kill.

Just a small little QoL thing I'd like to see.

Also, make an indicator that tells how much damage Barrier is going to absorb, and how much Healing Heal is going to give.

That's what I'm really rooting for.

Also how much movement speed will ghost give, How much exhaust will reduce stats, How much mana will clarity give, How many units away you can teleport And how many spells will cleanse remove... oh wait nvm the last 2 ones.

Ghost I can get behind, seeing as it's the only one of the percentage summoner spells that change with level.

I don't really agree with giving an indicator to the rest.

Exhaust is a bit hard to show because it reduces by a percentage, rather than flat amount, meaning it's different from champ to champ.

Clarity also does by percentage, meaning it's difficult to show how much mana it will give to those around you.

The teleport one is just plain useless. Why would you need this information?

And Cleanse already says what it cleanses. Or, rather, what it doesn't cleanse.

A lot of this is useless info, tbh.

Movement speed is never one you need in precise units. If you use it, you run faster than them. Knowing the exact numbers you get isn't helpful at all.

Exhaust would have to show per-person. Too many numbers at once, and too many variables.

Mana from Clarity is easy: It's shown by the blue bar below health bars. The precise number is kinda irrelevant here, because you can already get that from just looking at your mana bar. Adding it for a buff bar would just cause oversaturation of numbers, because you'd need between 3 and 6 icons for it - enough for everyone on your team.

Teleport distance is useless, it's global.

Cleanse would be both confusing and useless.

If you're at the point that the exact unit speed boost you get matters to you, you're at the point that you don't need an indicator.

Barrier and Heal are not quite the same as Ignite and Smite, as you never know the exact amount of incoming damage until it hits.

If you have Barrier, you just use it when their "big ability" is about to hit. For Zed, as an example, you use this just after he presses R.

Heal you use when someone is about dead, or you really need that extra bit of MS. You don't often get to gauge whether or not it'll save you very accurately.

Meanwhile, for ignite and smite, you can see their exact health bar. The damage there is most relevant.

Then again, more clarity would be helpful. Maybe other people could use that number in ways I can't see. :3

I think showing the amount of damage they will absorb/heal is great.

For people that can somehow memorize the base damage of an enemy ability (I have yet to fully grasp this, but some players probably have it laying around somewhere in their mind), it would help.

I don't think people memorize base damage by number, but rather an approximate amount of damage output of different champions. "Like X champion can do Y damage at level 5" kinda way, not "the Q does X damage, W does Y damage, and E does Z damage" kinda way

I wouldn't know.

Like I said, I've yet to grasp this.

I think a zed player who has his R to tell him if he is going to kill or not while also taking ignite.....and electrocute...….. has plenty of quality in his life...

Jk I think this would be cool, especially if we can click on the champions on the enemy team and see the buff indicator too..so we know how much damage their ignite would do.

DuskDaUmbreon1 votes

Lmao. I suppose that is true, that some champions might be a bit overloaded with indicators then. :P

Better idea,

Let's nerf Ignite.

I'm sick to death of seeing 6-7 ignites per game.

DuskDaUmbreon2 votes

We can buff or nerf it separately as needed. This is just a small QoL change.

QoL changes are available to both broken and useless champions, so the same concept is completely valid for summoner spells.

Primaquarius6 votes

I could use this myself, to learn the timing of Ignite (I rarely use it)

DuskDaUmbreon1 votes

That's mostly what I had in mind. Something to help out the people that don't use ignite often.

And also as a help to me, who still hasn't learned ignite's damage outside of levels 1 and 18, despite having at least 100 midlane matches.

Fuck you and ur indicator. Better nerf ignite.

Honestly, I think it would reduce clarity to do that because ignite doesn't do true damage like smite does. That means the actual damage dealt is dependent on the opposing champions MR and would never actually do the amount of damage indicated on the tool tip, leading to a bunch of upset people when they don't get the kill they planned on using the numbers given.

It does deal true damage though...

Ayzev2 votes

It does do true damage. It always did.

DuskDaUmbreon1 votes

Sir, ignite does true damage.

The difference is that ignite is a damage over time, while smite is instant.

For a second I thought you were suggesting that Riot should give summoner 14 summoner 11's sound and visual effect per tick.

Basically seeing summoner 11 !summoner 11 !summoner 11 !summoner 11 !summoner 11 ! Haha

It Hertz When IP3 votes

Actually, a fiery version of smite might be a nice visual indicator that I've been ignited.

DuskDaUmbreon1 votes

That'd actually be pretty badass. Although like the commenter below (above?) me said, some visual indicator that you're ignited would be pretty cool.

But that's not quite what I meant. :P

DuskDaUmbreon2 votes

How so? It's just listing a number, not buffing it in any way.

Actually is a bit of a nerf, because you can see how much damage it's going to do to you.

DrCyanide2 votes

In before someone cries that "It didn't really do that much damage!" as their target's HP/5 keeps them alive.

DuskDaUmbreon1 votes

Hehe. I could see this happening a bit.

Thankfully, I think most of us realize that opponents also have health regen, and that igniting them the second that they hit ignite's damage won't kill them.

Thilmer2 votes

How about no?

Every time I use Ignite at random in an enemy with low HP is a kill. We don't need a message saying "press F rigth now to get an easy kill".

Ignite needs a nerf, that's it.

DuskDaUmbreon3 votes

Not a message telling you it'll kill, just a little icon in the buff bar showing how much damage it has.

That way I don't need to hover over ignite in my hotbar to see whether or not it'll kill.

phantom33952 votes

that would be nice

Salamencę2 votes

Another ignite buff? Yeah no thanks

DuskDaUmbreon4 votes

It's not a buff, it's a QoL change that means those unfamiliar to ignite's precise damage will be slightly better off.

That's a buff. Right now you have to guess whether or not ignite would kill someone and adding the damage indicator would allow you to know when to ignite someone or not. That's called a buff. It's like adding an execute indicator to Darius ult.

Ackelope2 votes

i'd argue that it's different from something like that, because it's just making available information more easily visible, so you don't have to mouse over it. you still have to guess, or look at your opponent's health bar (and factor in their regen, do they have a potion up?) to figure out whether it would kill them. whereas an execute indicator like the one on cho'gath's ult says "it'll kill them now", this still means you have to go through a hoop or two to know, it just makes one of those hoops a bit wider.

another thing i'd say to both of you; a QoL change and a buff can be the same thing (buff is just a wider term); a QoL change is often a small change that does exactly what i described. It makes jumping through all the hoops easier by making one of the hoops slightly wider/easier to jump through, rather than say, removing the hoop entirely.

Indicators and things like that have always, always been understood to not be buffs.

Adding informational clarity is not the same thing as a buff. It has the effect of a buff on people who are not familiar with the object being given better clarity, but it adds no real numbers to it.

Lmaoooo what? You're trying to tell me that if Darius ult had an execute indicator added it wouldn't be a buff? Do you understand how ridiculous that sounds?

DuskDaUmbreon1 votes

No, it wouldn't be.

Because indicators are not buffs.

Riot merely telling you what will happen if you use a single ability is not a buff.

Tormentula2 votes

Smite and ignite are different cases though, with smite you need to know how much flat true damage it'll do for objective and camp secures, with ignite, it's DoT so even if you time it perfectly, there's a lot of variables that make it inaccurate anyway such as Healing, shields, regen, pots, etc. it would probably bait players into ignite people at the thresholds

DuskDaUmbreon1 votes

It might, but I feel like most people understand that it's not a 100% certainty that it'll kill, because it's a DoT.

Ghazter1 votes

I would appreciate this immensely.
