So, I played a few games of Jungle

I've more or less stuck with Support since I began maining it in Ranked my first season (2014). Most of the games I've spent not doing that were in ARAM, I didn't get the role I wanted, or I played something else on a whim.

To gain some experience outside my comfort zone I decided to play a few games of Jungle recently, and I have come to one conclusion; It is easier than Supporting.

Jungling has got to be the easiest role in the game; you play Farm Simulator 2017 in PvE mode, PvP for a few seconds during a gank, then go back to your farm sim. All you really have to do is pay attention to where people are and decide who the best gank will be.

No, this is not a shitpost. Supporting is harder than Jungling. I might just put some more time into it and make it my secondary role (from Mid). It should open up more time for me to take a college course online, since I'll be able to do it at the same time as jungling (kappa).

Sweet. More reason for laners to feel justified in yelling at their jungler.

Though in all seriousness, you played 4 normals. You can't make a statement like this.

Wasn't always like that. Previously, if you decided to gank you would lose out on jungle camp EXP and gold so you had to make it worth it. There was a hard decision to make for you - clear jungle or gank?

Now, after clearing all camps you actually have some time before they all spawn again, unlike before. Which means that there is no decision involved anymore whether you want to gank or not, you just full clear, gank and pressure before camps spawn again and then repeat the process.

Currently, this is the most viable tactic in high elo that most junglers use. You just have the same amount of EXP and gold that you gain by full clearing like if you would do it in season 6, but now you actually have time to gank on top of that, unlike previously, where camps already started spawning again after you were done full clearing.

all supports do is sit in the bush and soak XP with a ward dropped occasionally

support is the easiest role with the easiest champions

I think that's why I like it so much, I don't really have to worry about one person and can just kind of be anywhere. Played Evelynn and would just walk up, ult q and be done. Vi I only had to show myself and burn two flashes. Only thing that sucks is when all three lanes are heavily losing.

All you really have to do is pay attention to where people are and decide who the best gank will be.

Honestly, deciding where to gank isn't rarely even necessary anymore.

Generally, you just gank bottom lane when possible due to:

  • Two kills
  • FB Tower
  • Dragon
  • Allowing bottom lane to roam and take towers elsewhere

There are many objectives in bottom lane, so a successful early gank will often decide the game.

It can be a difficult role if your ADC is gawd Aweful but in most cases its just harass enemy and ward. and pay attention to your mini map cause ADC probably won't

Gotta love it when people simplify a role into the good points, and never about the bad points.

You'll learn to hate it when people are shouting at you to gank after they push up in lane. You'll also love being invaded by 3 people, or just the overblown jungler of the month. Not to mention getting counterjungled by both the enemy and your own team from time to time.

lmao literally every game youre getting spam pinged to help gank top after you just went bot lane, and then people want every buff/piece of farm in-lane and in the jungle if youre falling behind.

Jungling is the easiest way to get CS. There are a few instances where you will be counter jungled, but you can recognize those junglers and deal with them accordingly.

Jungling is the most free role to assist lanes. The faster you farm, the more free time you have to help lanes. This is why there was such a fuss over single target junglers whom cannot compete with junglers that can wipe out whole camps. If you really want a Jungler whom you don't even need to look at your camps while farming, try out Shyvana. I find her ridiculous fun and can spend most of my time watching the lanes instead.

Is Jungling easier than Support? For me, the answer is no. I have more than twice the number of games on Support as I do Jungle. I'm more comfortable with my Support roster. I know their matchups better. I'm often struggling to make the right call as the jungler either because every lane is pushed out (farm/dragon?) or every lane is pushed in (which one of these 0/2/0 players will make a difference if I get them a kill). I've had plenty of games where I can't even do a full clear before I need to be somewhere to stem the bleeding. But that's mostly my error in making the role harder by trying to "Support" from the Jungle. I believe if your intent is to carry from the Jungle position and actually pick a champion that can reliably carry (while building them as a carry), the role becomes much easier.

Supporting is harder than Jungling.

Well, junglers never have to worry about 4 man ganks at gromps.

Since you're a support main, I'm assuming you're one of the smarter players on the team. If you're smart enough, jungle is easy. The difficulty for jungle and support is the player's mental ability.

To be a good jungler (as opposed to someone who's just playing around in the jungle), there's a lot of aspects in the game to take into account.

  1. Where is the enemy jungler? You need to have good timing and map awareness to be constantly keeping track of the enemy jungler. Why? To prevent objectives/buffs from being taken. To take objectives/buffs. To countergank a lane if needed. To spot a countergank. To kill the enemy jungler. To not be killed by the enemy jungler.

  2. Who needs a gank? or should I just farm? A fail gank hurts both you and your lane. By just entering the lane, you are leaching experience and not making gold. In a way, every decision you make lead to more significant consequences then a laner would normally experience. If you stay and farm instead of helping your teammates, it may lead to the downfall of your team. "It's not my fault my laners suck" is not an excuse. If you could've covered their mistakes but didn't, it is your fault your team is losing.

  3. Making the calls Hai has one of the worst mechanics as a pro player, yet he was debatably the most valuable member of C9 when he was on the team. Assuming the laners have equal skills (in an ideal matchup), it is the junglers who dictate the outcome of the lane. As the jungler, you make the call whether to engage the enemy or to play it safe, for every lane. This is not something most people can do effectively (because they're stupid).

For most people, being a good jungler is not easy. It's one of the most difficult roles as it requires the player to have a deeper understanding of the game in general as well as all opposing enemy champions.

The way I see it, if you play support or jungle, and you're not the reason why your team won - you're not playing it right. Top, mid, and ADC are merely damage follow ups. Everything begins with either the jungler or support.

I think summing the challenges both face are impossible. there are many sleeper jungles and many sleeper supports.

In terms of decision making, it is much harder as a JG and much easier as a support (in my expirience). Now of course this is a blanket statement, and you can definitely play armchair general as a support (though i doubt people will listen), however, as a support your decisions are mostly confined to the bot lane during lane phase (unless you roam a lot, which is unlikely). JG's have the freedom to roam and call all the shots, however one wrong move will completely throw a game, while a mistake from a support may not be noticed. As a support, most games you can just easily win by keeping your JG alive in teamfights if they are ahead. There isn't much decision making involved. as a support.

However, in terms of carrying, Support is immensely more difficult than JG. The outcome of a game when you are support is 100% determined by

  1. your JG being ahead
  2. how many of these the other team has Camille Vayne Darius Hecarim Jayce Katarina Khazix Poppy Rengar Syndra Vi Zac Shyvana
  3. buying item 3107 How ahead the support is in a game is dependent on your teammates, if your team is behind and you make awesome plays as support that would normally get your team an ace, it will mean absolutely nothing. Hell, you could stun the entire enemy team for a solid 5 seconds and you will still lose a teamfight. The phrase "you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink" is the complete summary of the support role. You can land all your cc and make amazing plays, but you can't make your team do damage. Jg however, has the power to easily carry the team on their back, with all the roaming and pressure they can create.

This isn't a good summary by any means, but I think it forms a basis of JG vs Support.
