Business Tactics: Robbery

Do you know why Microsoft converts your cash into Microsoft points? Why League of Legends has RIOT points? Why Maplestory has NEXON cash?

etc etc...

I don't remember who said it, but there's a quote along the lines of, "If people were aware of the actual dollar amount they were spending, companies would have to lower their prices significantly."

What is the relevancy of this post?

Rune pages.

You see 2600 RP for a 7 pages and think nothing of it. Eh, just 2600 RP, easy purchase no biggie. On the contrary, if you went to buy a 7 page bundle and saw $20. You'd think that was preposterous. Well RIOT, I'm here to say that price is absurd. As well a new champions costing $7.50 a piece.

Why is this in gameplay? Well, if you don't know how runes effect your gameplay, you're not an experienced enough player, yet. I don't know how many games I've played, but I know within the last 20 matches, I've forgot to switch between my 2 rune pages on certain champs (AS for Irelia, ArPen for Wukong, LS for Aatrox) and the difference is obvious.

RIOT, I'm not sure about most of your fan base, but I'm not rich. Cut me a little slack and redo your pricing.

i agree. the only reason riot's ridiculous pricing on rune pages and champions hasn't affected me more than it would have is because i've been playing since 2012 and have had ample time to get what i want via in-game cash and DESPITE 4 years(!!!!) of dedicated playing, i still haven't gotten all the champions, and up until last week when the pages went on sale, i only had three runepages. I have five now.

straight and simple: you don't have to reduce the price for champions, but place more of them on free week at a time so that people don't have to wait a year and a half to try out the champions they want (disclaimer: probably not actually a year and a half but you get the idea). I see no reason why this would not benefit you! if someone gets to play a champ on free week and enjoys the experience, they are much more likely to buy the champion once it goes off free week as compared to their likelihood of simply purchasing the champion blind.

Rune pages, on the other hand, are simply way, way, way too expensive, as are the runes themselves, considering this is something that very noticeably impacts your ingame experience.

I only had two runepages for something like the first two and a half, three years i played league of legends, and both of them were devoted to orianna. I'll bet you that if i had more runepages, my experience on other champions -particularly ADC's- would have been a lot better. Only now do i have pages for other roles, and for the first time since i started playing, i'm actually winning games in other roles again.

Well the thing with league is that its one of few games that is free and you cant pay for advantages like you could in many other games. But you gotta remember that its also a job for them and they have to feed there families so they make a money system along side a free system for those who dont mind paying for another champ to get quicker or a nice skin. If you dont like the system then just dont buy anything (:

But having rune pages does give you an in-game advantage.

I have to decide if I want rune pages, runes or champions.

My friend been playing since S2, has every champ, roughly 15 - 20 rune pages and all tier 3 runes, said it cost him about $1000, but now he's at the point where he has more IP than what to do with. New champ gets released, buys it, has like 200k IP left. Said he wishes you could gift with IP because he's tired of looking at it.
