Countering Darius as of March 2018

95% of the games I go against with darius I get destroyed by him and start majorly tilting. Slap on phaserush and ghost on him and his biggest weakness is completely gone, his maneuverability and limited range. He'll land 100% of his Q's on you because of the huge speed boost and slow resistance (and the huge blade hit marker). I've thought of so many ways of trying to counter him, i.e. trying to play it safe and farm. Does not work because he'll eventually snowball and his 1v2 capabilities are quite strong due to his passive and heal. Dodging his Q and engaging trying to win trades in that small opportunity; doesn't work for me, because his Q cd is pretty damn short (3-4 seconds?) And if you engage on him he'll just slow and pull you and get his phaserush on you and then 'poof' his Q is back and by that time he has all his stacks and you can't get away because of his large movement speed. I've thought of so many things but to no avail. Can't out-damage him or out-tank him because of his armour pen, bleed that does magic damage, and ult. Also, i'm mostly a normies player, so there's no counterpicking chances I would get from playing draft pick. So what i'm looking for is some general help or tips from the pro League community on how to deal with him since most countering guides are old.

~~If you are playing a fighter (Riven, Jax, Fiora) either outplay him or wait for a gank. Both work. If you are playing a tank, ~~rush a bramble vest.

Here's how the plan typically goes.

  1. You pick your favourite fighter
  2. Dive in to burst them down.
  3. Get killed because you fought Darius in the early game. "Looks at number 3."

Memes aside, you just can't fight Darius like that. You know it's not going to work, so what do you really expect? Keeping that distance early is important.

Pokers like Teemo, Jayce, Gnar, and maybe Pantheon (check sources before experimenting on this one) are your best bet at tilting him and not feeding.

-When he Q's you have a small window of going in or out his Q range -Let your range carries do most of the damage in team fights and just peel away from him -(Common one) Do short trades as it's the best, because Darius stacks

Darius is probably one of the hardest to counter in the top lane, my advice is bush bamble vest to avoid his passive healing if you're a fighter or a tank. Play someone who can make short trades and get out of E range. ( Riven Renekton Yasuo Fiora ). Or just wait for a gank Don't fight him early as he will kick your ass with his abilities and passive. Just farm passively and watch for mistakes then you'll be able to attack him. He has no escapes so if he's pushed up very far, just ask for a gank and he has to waste a flash or you get guaranteed a kill Watch if he has his flash up, since Darius can engage with a flash and pull you. (if away from e range) Then proceed with the combo. Try to kill him early, cause he's a juggernaut. He'll rush black cleaver and proceed to build armor or mr against everybody. Punish him if he misses his Q or E. Don't let him get 5 stacks onto you since his ult does more dmg than his regular ult. Keep him away from teamfights since he does alot of dmg to your squishies and just dunk's your entire team. Shut him down as a team, his tankyness and dmg are absurd mid-late game.

and thats it (from what I know)

Don't fight him early. At all. Don't try to trade with him. You will lose.

you dont need to counter darius, in fact you don't even need to be in the lane

your adc will promptly kill him in 3 hits regardless

You would use to chunk Darius until you could all in, but seeing how fleet footwork heals so perfectly now he’s just eh, the easy tool
