Well, she was in the same way she is now I guess, but at least more counters for her were actually viable.

And then Syndra got axed, talon got his silence removed and the list keeps on going.

That's why when you look at the challenger tier in any region almost everyone has Kat in their top 3 (as well as Fiora and Master Yi).

The reason she's not viable in the LCS (Or higher Diamond, for that matter) is because the second she jumps in melee range and starts ulting, people will drop EVERYTHING onto her. Silences, knock-ups, you name it. A CC'd Katarina is basically a glorified minion.
