Why am I matched with a Gold 2 in my Diamond 4 promo?

Title.

Was playing a flex with my friends, we were 3, we're around low diamond/very high plat elo AND MMR and I was in promo to d4. But I was matched with a gold 2 (flex rank) Draven who ended the game 0 9 3.

Can someone explain this bullshit? Seriously, a league and three divisions lower than me? What the fuck?

Was playing a flex

So? I'm talking about flex ranks.

I was in promo to flex d4, he was flex gold 2.

Isn't there a limit of 1 league to play with people? Like, I can't invite gold 2 players at all to play with me.

Same reason I was matched with plats+ in my Silver I to gold 5 promos in soloQ... [sg-janna]

Maybe because this is his history match:

So he's nowhere near gold 2, if he can pull up winning streak like this, thus the system correctly detected him as a smurf who should play against and with his category of players.

It's been so many seasons and people still don't understand that ranks are only there for bragging rights and only mmr reflects true skill gg.

because match making wanted you to lose.

It's flex. People can be all kinds of ranks in there vs their solo.

Flex is not team ranked, Flex is flex.

If I'm diamond 4 I can't play with gold people, period. If I try to invite someone below P4 as a D4 it just says that he's too low to play with me.

So, why should this kind of stuff happen if Riot doesn't allow mixed elo parties at all?

Yes, however, the system still finds the closest matches it can, if there is no one else Dia MMR on for flex it will just go down the line.

I was Bronze 1 on a smurf in flex and was facing people that were Gold 3 in flex (not their solo ranking). So it finds it based on the MMR as it always does but Flex is appearing to be much wider than Solo.

In the case of this guy, since he was probably duo with a plat it raised his MMR even more so that is why the system placed them with you.

Ranks don't matter when matchmaking, they're badges

What matters is your mmr, so either you're as good as a gold player or he is as good as a diamond player, or maybe you're good as a plat player and so is he, etc.

Was he duo? And if so what was his partners rank

Fisher No Chains4 votes

He was duo with a P5 dude.

VS way higher people anyway. There was not a single enemy who was below P5 iirc.

Leagues match making always does stuff like that

A stupid mid X rank player decided to duo with their high X-1 rank friend and end up getting placed in a X+1 level game that they will eventually ruin. It's not uncommon.
