Thanks to the update, supporting is even more awful
Disclaimer: These are my observations based off my in game experiences as support. Do not attempt to crucify me over this, because my boys will have you sleeping with the fishes if you try (I'm kidding about that, but please have an open mind if you want to weigh in). Before the update, supports had it rough. They had to juggle so many things. They have to get wards, purchase certain items to help their adc, put their own lives in jeopardy to help the adc get a potential kill, throw their own lives away so the adc can live, and build items to get themselves stronger. Every role has their responsibilities, but no role comes close to having a tighter budget than the support. Supports are rarely allowed to farm, and must only get kills if it saves a life. Otherwise, it could be grounds for a report. This throws all the gold potential away. While support income items help, but nothing compares to actually farming and killing, and even the items aren't any good if your team is far behind. Here comes the new update. Supports are helped by having more items on the market for them to use. This does not help much because they are still priced pretty high. The update has done nothing to help supports with their featherweight wallets. Supports have a lot of waiting before they can afford any of them. When they finally can, they have to decide if it's worth it. Remember, most of their build has to help the team, so they have to analyze everything before they buy anything. If they pick wrong, it's on the buyer. In addition, supports and adcs both fall easily to assassins. By improving the assassins, you made them both frustrating to play, and now the support cannot even get assists or even utilize their income item because they're spending more time either dead or at base healing. This makes the budget even worse, making the support more unable to support, and they also get more reports too. I'm sorry, but this update really was a smack in the face for the players stuck supporting.
Additional note: Even when I do well as support, playing still isn't that fun. If your job isn't to join the fight, but to just buff the people fighting, it's more of a chore now. Remember when you were little (five-ish?), and you were put in timeout while the other kids decided to play a fun game? You want to join in, but you were not allowed. That's what I feel like supporting is. You have to sit behind and watch everyone else play the game. Supports need more incentives to support, or it will be a doomed role. This must be stopped.
and
are going to push utility supports like
out of the meta, so think carefully about how you go about giving them that gold.
