Played Plat 5s as a Silver

In my recent ranked game 5/10 of the players were Plat 5 (I'm silver 1). How does this work if I would normally not be allowed to queue with someone who is plat?

Their MMR is probably so low that they were placed into that game. Also, matchmaking isn't perfect and has some hiccups sometimes.

Now imagine that Silver 1 is essentially Gold 5 in terms of matchmaking and that Plat 5 is essentially Gold 1. Now it's only 4 divisions difference and no reason to complain about.

It's just a combination of your MMR being high and theirs being low. I remember last season I started getting matched with plats pretty much as soon as I hit Gold, but I was also 50 or so games over .500 at the time. By the time I was Gold 2 I was matched almost exclusively with plats. Then I started sucking, lol, but that's a whole different story.

If you're high silver/gold you're occasionally going to see Plat 5s with low MMR in your games. It's extremely difficult to derank from Plat 5 to Gold 1 (you'd almost have to intentionally lose a ton of games) so you'll get those Plat 5 players that have lower than Plat 5 MMR.

Silver 1 is basically Gold 5 and Plat 5 is basically Gold 1 if you look at it.

Now they could be low plat, so it might be more like gold 2 and your mmr could be high silver, so around gold 4, suddenly there's essentially no difference anymore.

And never forget: If it wasn't solo/duo then ranking means nothing anyway. Queues have separate MMR. (I know you said it was ranked, but people always forget this so it can't hurt to mention it)
