HE HAS BEEN OVERNERFED AND HOLDS ONE of the lowest win rates in league compared to the likes of yorick and urgot. Hecarim Hecarim has it is .. is very weak. very item dependent has nothing to offer even when behind has a tank.

I used him back when his W's heal was uncapped. The massive heals from an ally Veigar's burst were real.

like 5 qs in the jungle drains all my mana wtf....

Definitely! He was one of my favorite characters as a jungler but all the nerfs made him completely unplayable and the changes to jungle items still dont make it any easier for him. I think his ult needs to be a more reliable engage honestly. Possibly a stun instead of fear. It would make him viable again

#buffheca2016 Honestly I think, that decreasing his mana costs would be enough.

give his non-collision back

BIAKaboose4 votes

Really never understood why they removed that to be honest, seemed like a nerf out of pure spite to me.

crippler383 votes

is he big enough to stand on minions to deny cs?

BIAKaboose1 votes

I mean I can do that with Voli, Mundo, Nautilus, Nasus, Renekton, etc. Not having minion collision just makes it a bit more consistent if you're willing to eat the damage, which with Heca I personally wouldn't be since his sustain is much more situational than "You hit me enough so my passive went off" or "I have an ability/shield that is easy to use to sustain the hits".

WTBeGirl100EUhr1 votes

It's more that if you have to use W on CD that's a lot of mana you can't spend trading, and your W is essential to win trades. If you're using it just to sustain minion aggro you're going to lose lane.

BIAKaboose1 votes

Not if they're melee I'm not wasting it, I'm going to smack them in the same motion.

WTBeGirl100EUhr1 votes

Point being you're sustaining minion aggro, rather than damage from the enemy laner trading with you is a waste. The damage it does is fairly bad, aside from cheaply proc'ing thunderlords should you choose to take it.

BIAKaboose1 votes

The point of standing on minions at least in my eyes is forcing the enemy laner to fight you or lose CS for not trying to make you move, make them choose between CS and taking free damage, or getting nothing and staying safe. When they go to attack you for being on your minions use W to eat the hit, root them with an auto and step off the creep while continuing to fight them, they'll either stop to try to last hit, letting you get free hits in the process, or they will keep fighting you and miss it anyway while your creeps also help you fight them.

I don't know what other people do, but I'm not going to stand on top of literally every CS picking fights when the enemy has a larger wave/I don't have resources for trades. It's a mind game with your opponent trying to force them into a bad situation no matter what they do.

I haven't been having any trouble wrecking with hecarim, my win rate with him is 67%, and in most games i reach over 10 kills with very few deaths, i fail to see how he's weak

You have six games on Hecarim. Heck, I won 16 of my first 20 games as Lulu, which is no indication of Lulu being strong. Hecarim at Plat + owns the second lowest win rate in both Top and Jungle. It's a simple fact. People with 50+ games on Hecarim are only getting a 47% Win Rate on the guy. You'd at least hope for 50% when you actually know how to play the guy.

Sheen took a hit with the loss of AP. Not that big of a deal for people that didn't build Sheen early on Hecarim for the spellblade, mana and AP. Some of us did.

Swift boots recently took a minor hit with the loss of 5 MS and price increase. That's a hit on Hecarim's passive which translates to his damage output. That hurts his early game, since swift boots were easy to complete early on.

Dead Man's Plate was a nice buff to Hecarim when it was introduced, but has taken some minor nerfs with price increases and diminishing health values.

Zephyr was removed, which was an item some people used on Hecarim.

As for Hecarim's kit... his base health and health/lvl was nerfed. His perma ghosting through minions was removed. His base mana and mana/lvl was nerfed. These are minor nerfs, but clearly have added up to where we are today.

I'm 6W/7L with Hecarim, though I admit I've tried so many different (and stupid) builds on the guy. I even tried a Runic Echoes build with him just to see how the MS boost would amp up his damage. Then they nerfed Echoes. ¬.¬

Thinking the next time I play him, I'll run item 1409 item 1306 item 3071 item 3025 item 3742 + whatever else makes sense against the enemy (more MR, more Health, More Armor... whatever). I know he's not the best tank, but if you give him Gauntlet or Mallet, he can deliver item based CC effectively with his Q.

I also want to try out the item 3932 item 3124 combo on him at least once. I doubt it will work, and even if it does it would probably be a fluke. Still would be fun to try.

Faker Senpi,

I'm sure you are much wiser than me and you know so much more about LoL, but for some reason I can't find a way to make the spell blade procs double. I feel like I'm wasting so much gold on a slow effect when I already have Tri-Force. So I have resorted to just buying IBG when I need the slow effect from my spell blade passive and Tri-force when I need a more powerful burst effect on my spell blade passive.

Ravenhale2 votes

Unfortunately there is a Hierarchy of Spell Blades. If you have Tri-Force, the Spell Blade on IBG won't be active. Half the reason to grab IBG is for the Mana and CDR, which Frozen Heart can do without overlapping Spell Blades.

Hecarims that grab Tri-Force really shouldn't be grabbing Cleaver or IBG due to overlapping passives.

I also tried getting my mana with an alternate Manamune build geared around spamming skills all over the jungle. It was amusing but ineffective. I don't think I ever succeeded transforming it into a Muramana.

The only reason to get Triforce over IBG currently is due to Triforce doing higher damage than IBG. However, IBG has:

  1. Increased CDR
  2. More immediate tankyness
  3. Compress Triforce and Frozen Heart into one item slot
  4. Is cheaper
  5. Has utility for your team (AoE slow)

Which is why I switched for IBG and I almost always buy it over Triforce. IBG is a much safer item to buy and is overall a better choice at all stages of the game. It also allows you to buy a Black Cleaver to compensate for the lost Phage passive and to have armor penetration. Triforce is a very risky item to buy in such a fast paced metagame where Hecarim can't afford to be squishy during the early/mid game, also it still has useless stats for him (attack speed and crit)

Ravenhale1 votes

You're third point is misleading. We're not comparing Tri-Force/Frozen Heart to IBG. We're almost always comparing Tri-Force/Frozen Heart to Black Cleaver/IBG. The difference in price between those combinations is 400 gold.

TriForce/Frozen Heart 30%CDR 90 Armor 250 Health 650 Mana 25AD 5%MS (roughly 18 MS which is slightly less than 3-6 AD depending on his Level) (Negligible AS and Crit Stats) Phage Passive (20 MS which is 3-6 AD depending on his Level) 200% Spell Blade AS Reduction Aura

Advantages - More Armor, More Mana, Stronger Spell Blade, AS Reduction to Marksmen

Cleaver/IBG 40%CDR 65 Armor 300 Health 500 Mana 55 AD Phage Passive (20 MS which is 3-6 AD depending on his Level) 125% Spell Blade AoE CC 5% Armor Pen Cleave that takes 6 Hits to fully Stack

Advantages - Cost, More CDR, More AD, Access to Armor Pen

I think both routes put you in about the same place. The important thing to state here is when you get your stats. Tri-Force means you are putting off your Mana and Armor till later. Waiting on Armor in an AD Meta isn't the best approach, which is why you must be ahead.

Your also forgetting that item 3071 gives the item 3044 passive on ALL physical damage rather then just auto attacks which allows him to chase a little better as your Q's give you move speed. This means that the second build will let you chase better and provide more positional cc for your team while allowing you to move around easier.

Yes, and the bonus 60 MS applies on Kills and Assists. The Rage passive on Cleaver is a better version of it.

IBG is a noob trap on hec since his E will just knock them out of the area. It pretty much only gives you the stats

Ravenhale1 votes

Yea, the normal approach is to build sheen and then do Tri-Force or IGB based on how the situation was going. If you are doing well and can stay aggressive, you go with Tri-Force. IGB is more of a fall back so you can upgrade your sheen into useful stats (not even realistic to build Lich's Bane though it could be hilarious with the MS bonus). It's a defensive, "I'm behind" purchase. The Icy Zone spell blade speeds up jungle clears to help you catch up.

So if you're wondering why I show it as part of a build I'm planning to use... well obviously I won't if I'm ahead. I would totally do Cinder/TriForce/Frozen Mallet if I'm ahead (as opposed to Cinder/Cleaver/IGB). I'm just guessing I'll end up behind for some reason or another. It seems to happen when I play Hecarim, even in the games we do manage to win.

I don't think that IBG is necessarily a fall back. I usually buy IBG even if I am ahead because it allows me to stay ahead much better, as Triforce does not offer any tankyness and is much more expensive. At least IBG has armor, which means more immediate tankyness unless the enemy happens to do fully magic damage.

Also, IBG has other advantages over Triforce. Increased cooldown, does the role of both Triforce and Frozen Heart while saving one item slot, and allows me to buy a The Black Cleaver, something that I can't do with Triforce because of the overlapping Phage passives, as well as the fact that both items do not offer any relevant tankyness, making Hecarim too squishy for the mid game.

Oh, and IBG is cheaper. This allows me to complete my build faster. Which is a good thing to do in such a fast paced metagame.

Rickon Stark1 votes

You also have a Q.... pretty sure that won't knock out of the slow.

Anidan1 votes

I have no issue with anything you said other than even bothering to bring the 5 MS nerf of swifties hitting his damage to any degree. He gets 15-35% of his MS as bonus attack damage, which means the 5 MS nerf on the aforementioned boots is a loss of 1-2 bonus attack damage. That honestly isn't even worth bringing up in any discussion relating to pretty much anything, if we're being real here. The price increase and 5 MS nerf is the real hit, his passive isn't even worth bringing up in the case of that nerf.

Everything else I'll agree with and be content. But that one point just irked me a bit.

Dragonlord71371 votes

Hecarim's passive feels like it hardly does anything now as they removed the pass-through units and it scales with 15-30% BONUS move speed (increasing by 2.5% every 3 levels) which isn't a lot in the long run since as you get over 415 total all additional bonuses are reduced by 20% and then 50% when over 490. With the safe build of item 1306, item 3025 and item 3071 you only get 35.5 extra ad which isn't much when compared to other passive's in the game.

Sohleks4 votes

I'm not sure if his preseason nerf was necessary.... I recall he started surging in the jungle, but hecarim is soo gold reliant for that role. Preseason feels like riot balance buried their head in statistics gutting the likes of Swain and ignored obvious actual high level balance problems like gangplank.

Kal Vas Flam3 votes

I don't play Hec a lot but he still feels strong to me. As others have said his mana costs are probably too high.

Bârd3 votes

I find that Hec works really well in combination with allies who are focused on wombo, because of his ultimate and his W healing.

But yeah, he got hit too hard. The removal of his multiplicative speed buffs and his mana nerfs really hurt (among other things).

Are you kidding me? Hecarim has great ganking potential, he can 1v2 and end up with full health, AoE fear, spam AoE Q, sustain, and he deals more tanky DPS than any champ in the game. I dominate with 2 items alone; Tri and IBG. The only thing that Hecarim needs changed is his mana costs. It's pretty damn hard to clear a lane/side with more than 1/3 of my mana.
