Placement games Gone Wrong

I would like more information on what rank players you get in placement games. I'm silver 3 in single and teamplay. a good player but not fantastic. I can get to gold if I stick with 1 sing or team play.

But in Rank placement all I have seen is either b5 teammates who feed 12 deaths in 9 minutes, rage quits, AFK , playing first time champs, or the occasional Smurf which unlucky was not on my side.

Can this BS change and have the 10 game placement within the same ability.
