You've been hired by Riot to build a new Tutorial for League. What is the goal of your Tutorial?

Hey, glad to have you on the team. We saw on your Resume that you spend way too much time on the Boards and decided to give you a shot. We're expecting a big wave of new players for the new season and we really want to get them up to speed with most of our player base as soon as possible, so we're creating a brand new tutorial to help them learn the game. We went through your Boards history, lots of great ideas there, but rather than an a never-ending list or a brick of text, we really want to have one central goal for the tutorial. Keep it simple for our players and designers. So, what do you think? If a new player is to play your tutorial, what is the one thing you want them to walk away with?

Thornmail on Ashe is the best item ever

Honestly? I'd keep it mostly the same, with another tutorial that has some basic tips regarding things like CSing or Warding, and some other slightly more advanced things.

Only the most basic of things.

It would be in a match similar to the old tutorial, with players basically unlocking new features throughout the match.

Start: player is Garen.

Give explanation on things like moving and auto attacking.

Player is then put into a 1v1 situation against a bot. They can win simply by letting Garen auto attack.

Now introduce abilities and levels.

Make the player use Q to quickly reach and silence an enemy or die, like a Velkoz.

Make the player use E to kill a group of enemies.

Now introduce items.

Make the player buy an option of phage or tiamat. They now fight a stronger bot.

Introduce minions. Player swaps to MF and has to last hit 2 minions in a wave.

Now add a tower and have the player destroy it. Half way through towers health a bot comes along to defend it.

Rest of game is played out as howling abyss with player being able to use:

Annie MissFortune Garen DrMundo

When player is level 10 introduce them to jungling and runes.

Jungle guide would be having the player as warwick with smite defeating one side of the jungle then ganking a bot in a 2v1.

The "jungle" would just be 3 camps in a line, with blue buff as the 2nd.

Runes would be teemo guiding you through making your first rune page. For one of the previously mentioned champions.

I would make a List of Minigames for training basic mechanics. Examples.

A skill shot simulator where an increasing # of Xerath rain down abilitys at you. see how long you survive. A Cs. whack a mole correctly hit the 1 target with HP low enough to die. Teamfight trainer, a small circular arena gladiator with AI fight to the death Etc.

I would also have a mentor system where players can participate to help newbies learn the ropes in vs AI to earn BE or OE.

You play a game where the enemy team is hugely fed, and the obj is to not fight them at every single opportunity

i would introduce missions introducing the 5 main roles of the game, and after the player chooses the role they love the most, i would give them missions to complete to grant them getting some champions of that role, and grant in game knowledge of how to play that role.

tho this might streamline a bit too much

Teach players not to fucking feed 10 kills in 10 minutes

Hmmm. I would probably turn it into an uninstallation guide, so that new players don't make the same mistake we did.

Teach them how to jungle - only. When you understand this role then you understand all.

try out both meta and off meta picks so that they have options and aren't forced to follow the meta to survive. i'd also teach them that there is nothing wrong with losing unlike what others say.
