She's a utility mage, She can support because she has a supports kit. But her utility can scale with AP, where her kit is still good enough to lane.
And her function in the team comp is pretty much going to be the same, only the APC build will be a bit more potent.
She was intended to be primarily a mage, with support being her secondary role. She's basically an utility mage, boasting a kit similar to Morg, Ori, and Lux; she provides damage and utility simultaneously. Unlike the others though, in my opinion, her current kit functions in a way that makes her transitions from one role to another instead of being able to be both at any time in the game.
no she is a mid lane mage but ever uses her as support
A karma suport should use q to poke but max her shield first

She's half-and-half. 50% support, 50% mage. Doesn't fit snugly in either archetype, but has a respectable mix.
Unfortunately for Karma the lane positions for support and mage are quite different, which puts her in an awkward spot for any given meta. She's not as blessed as other 50/50 mixtures like Ahri, Lee Sin, or Braum where both archetypes work really well in the same lane.
She is confused. Riot has even said they are not sure on her identity. As she only has 1 damage spell I'd say she fits support better than mid but she can be played either.
She has 2 damage spells.... just one is DOT. She I do believe has Support as a primary role, and mage as a secondary? So she really is a bit of both. Like all champions in League, she is able to be played multiple ways, in different lanes, and with different builds. There is no "one size fits all". Ive seen her played everywhere and do well, just not quite as well in jungle as she would do in a lane.
she's 65% damge 45% utility with speed buffing shield, and a snare. Annie and Zyra do more damage than her while having better CC but with no sustain. If she had hard CC like every other utility mage that goes bot she'd feel more like a support but she has other things going for her
