i'm thinking mundo and nasus because they can rush spirit visage, and galio because of his passive. just wanted to know if there were any others.

As you said, Galio is the obvious choice... Garen is pretty solid after his passive buff, he can shake off harass np and his defensive steroid is second to none (Syndra ults you ---> hit W, laugh it off). Or if you need AP, Rumble is pretty solid at destroying immobile casters with The Equalizer, etc.

WW, Spiritevisage and witsend are core items anyway on him Irelia, Wits+Spirit+mercs is pretty low budget and already grants alot tankiness and dps vs magic Mao, if they are spam-heavy Zac can also work well with mr-heavy items. Garren, prettymuch a better mundo, his out of combat regen post 16 is like a perma mundo ult, and his W grants massive tankiness vs burst. His silence also is handy vs caster.
