40 base magic resist and an ungodly 1050 gold combine cost. Add Negatron into the mix and lowering the combine accordingly would make building the thing a bit less painful.

That would be one way to go.
If it did get a rework, the best idea I've come across is turning Wit's into a component item that builds out of Recurve and a Null. With combine cost it would be sitting somewhere between 1800 and 2000 gold. Nice little power spike item with the stacking MR passive, but without the MR stealing component.
Then it could be combined with either a Recurve to create Madred's or with Quicksilver Sash to make Dervish Blade.
