New Jungler to Learn?

Vicarious117··1 votes·1,294 views

Ok so I'm looking for new junglers to learn right now and thought I'd ask the opinions of everyone here, the more information and opinions I have the better, basically.

Well, I have been a Rengar main for a while now, but not your typical Rengar main, I like to play him bruiser/tank. For a very long time I have, mainly cause I perform better on tankier champions, it's the role I've played for my team for a long while and even in other games I've always played the tank or at least someone hard to kill (DK in WoW, Zerker in TERA, Crusader in Diablo 3, Warrior in GW2, and so on). The thing is I'm HUGE into lore, the voices of the characters, their appearances, and so on, as in I won't play shit like Teemo, Heimer, Mundo, Ryze, and other champs I think look and/or sound bad, call me superficial.

This ofc led me to Rengar when I first started playing, he hadn't been released for very long, had a cool voice and lore, all on top of a very thematic kit, but the downside was he was an assassin (back in the days of his TripleQ). Eventually I learned him, got pretty good with him, all while still playing the first few tanks I even unlocked, like Volibear and Darius, and eventually started to just build Rengar as a tank/bruiser as well! It worked out great for quite a while, to the point when top Tankgar was OP as shiiiiiit and I jumped up from S4 to G5 in just a couple weeks lol He was then nerfed, but still viable, and finally reworked.

Even at that point I still played him pretty tanky, and eventually the meta shifted to actually favor tanks, so I was playing tank Rengar, diving backlines and being near unkillable while still solo'ing the carry or carries.

Eventually however the tank meta faded, the ADC meta came back, and the items shifted so that Rengar really only performs all that well as an assassin. I still like to build him tanky, but I'm now in a spot where nothing feels strong enough, carries have too much damage for backline diving as a pseudo-tank and I won't have enough damage to solo out anyone either, cause of how much damage they can all do now. The thing is, I love Rengar, but I don't like playing him as an assassin, it feels super cheesy, takes very little actual mechanical skill, and I'm used to playing tanks so will often jump in too early for an assassin or take cc for my other carries instinctively and just implode.....

So basically I'm looking for another bruiser/tank type champion for the jungle to add to my champion pool!

I play Poppy and Gangplank top (always loved the pirate, before and after his rework!) and I'm currently learning Irelia and the new Shen, cause he's not boring as fuck anymore lol In the jungle I used to have Aatrox as a backup, but he's just kind of a bad fucking champion in general atm, and I still like to play Skarner (again, before the first rework, after the first one, and again after this last one, I've always liked playing him lol) and some Sion from the jungle believe it or not!

So the thing is, Aatrox, Skarner, and Sion all feel subpar to me, I enjoy them and won't stop playing them, but I'm looking to expand my main champion pool for the jungle some more. Basically a fighter, someone who can 1v1 and/or tank decently well (doesn't have to be Maokai levels of tank or anything lol), and doesn't fall off ridiculously hard like Pantheon does :P

Any suggestions would be appreciated! I'll be working on maybe trying the new Shen in the jungle while I wait to hear some opinions lol

P.S. I will never play Kha'Zix, that bug scum.... lol Habit of a long time Rengar main who actually likes lore xP

How about tank RekSai she works pretty well and can be played damage if the situation calls for it.

I actually played her a lot when she first came out and just kind of forgot about her.... how the fuck did I forget about her!?

Thnx for reminding me, I'll have to play some normals with her to get my groove back! lol

You're welcome man. Glad I could help. Good luck out there on the rift!

Udyr item 1402 item 3009 item 3512 item 3025 item 3742 item 3102

Don't underestimate...mate.

Vicarious1171 votes

I play Udyr on occasion, not the biggest fan of his playstyle though, kind of.... simple lol And that's the new Trick2g build, yeah? I've been running into it a lot, it does seem very strong indeed. I'll prob give it a shot at least, never tried Zz'Rot on him that's for sure, but makes sense, "GATES" and all lol

Lots of free gold, and a lane you dont have to worry about "free pushing" and taking ur turrets while u do more important shit.. Did i mention you get free fucking gold too? XD

And i wouldnt say he's any less complex than Rek'sai which you said you like :D

Vicarious1171 votes

Feels a lot simpler then Rek'Sai to me, like at the peak of simplicity for junglers really, but yeah maybe I just haven't been playing him right? I'll try Tricks new build, I could be wrong lol

I'd say Rek'Sai is 1 of the most linear champions in the game, your only skill shot is a low damage burrowed Q... other than that you run at people use E then knock ppl up and spin.

Udyr is fun to me given the "spammy nature" of his kit.. I personally like spamming abilities in sequence, (not the only thing i like) but I too am a Rengar main and i enjoy Nidalee (although i'm not that great w.her) shes pretty fun.

I find these champions to be "fast paced" something i really like about a champion.. I feel like i'm applying a lot of pressure with these kinds of champs.

Vicarious1171 votes

I personally don't like Nidalee at all, not my cup of tea lol

And I don't find Rengar all that spammy, but that's cause I don't play him assassin, you have to watch your CDs a lot more closely as Tankgar, and in those choices of empowerment usage you end up with variations in each engagement, it's not just the same combo order like assassin Rengar, even though assassin is currently stronger xP

Rek'Sai felt more like Tankgar, you have to watch your CDs and your passive bar in order to find the "best result." Udyr feels more like assassin Rengar, there's a specific order to which you should use your skills and you just keep rotating them like that. But again I might just not be well versed enough with Udyr to know anymore then that, I'll see soon enough lol

I mean keep in mind I love playing the new Sion, the king of placement and patience lol

I play Bruiser Rengar/Tank Rengar as well, its really not as different as you make it out to be. The biggest difference is you rely heavily on ulti empowered E combos throughout the entire game whereas assassin rengar is more about empowered Qs

Vicarious1171 votes

It's extremely different! Tankgar has to make use of all 3 empowerments quite often, but assassin Rengar uses empE then empQ in every engage really, or two empQs depending, and very occasionally empW to try and live through a bad or tough jump.

Tankgar also has to keep track of his W buffs and his buffed AD through empQ, you cannot tank, like at all without his W stats and his damage without the increased AD from empQ just doesn't show up.

Assassin Rengar just has to throw a W out there to get the stack and when not maxing it second you typically won't really get the chance to actually make it a useful ability, and the burst off the upfront damage on his Q is far more important then the increased AD afterwards, so it's not something to keep track of.

Yes they obviously play similarly, that comes from them being the same champ lol But there's a lot more to look at when playing Tankgar, which could be argued to mean that Tankgar just isn't as good in general so you have to keep track of all this shit just to keep up, but either way it's still more to remember.

Eh to each their own.. I've played a fuckload of rengar myself and i personally find success on both, i dont find 1 easier or harder than the other, nor do i find their play patterns much different.

Shyvana - Tanky, despite her building mostly offensive, her late games make her a dangerous duelist, something all tanks have in common. She'll take and do tons of damage.

Malphite - He's malphite, if you've seen one you'd know why this tank is a good option.

Zac - Prepare to laugh your ass off when your top laner TPs to one of your blobs, makes you invinicible, and gets first blood on their enemy jungler.

Rammus - You said you're a tank main right? His middle name is tank. His last name is GG.

Elise - Not really a tanky champ tbh, she's more of an early game burst champ.. you'll be build half and half (AP/tank) but usually your goal with her is to end ASAP like 20 minutes since her early game is her deadliest. She's VERY tricky to use though.. it'll take practice before ranked for sure.

I have a few others in mind but I never seen them do too well... atleast with my match ups (as elise and skarner) such as nautilus.

Also why not kha'zix? Change is goooood - Khazix

Vicarious1172 votes

Malph huh... always get bored playing him, which is weird cause I sometimes play him top lane cause... well... Malph... and I have a very good record and KDA on him, which I think is rather common atm, but yeah idk I always get super bored.

Never got into Shyvanna or Rammus, and only really played Zac in top lane a long time ago, I'll try jungling with them for sure, thnx!

Yeah Elise seems tough, my teams jungler mains Elise and he dominates with her, but come late game it's either up to me or our supp, depending on which champs we're on, to do the tanking and initiating. Always tells me I should learn her, maybe I finally will now lol

Fuck Kha'Zix!!! lol

I forgot to mention Vi as well, she basically is a damage tank like rek'sai, except unlike rek'sai she as a bit more burst in addition to her bulk. She's mostly a warrior enchantment jgler, but her other items give her the tankiness for her to 1v5 a team when fed.

My friends always call her the clunky xin zhao, she has as much potential but playing her feels.. heavy if that makes sense.

Vicarious1171 votes

I know exactly what you mean, I got that Demon Vi skin and played her for a while, I wasn't a fan of when you get one of those games where your lanes feed or just lose and you try to help someone out and just get fucked for it cause you're so one-directional lol

Maybe I'll try just building her tankier until I get better xP

Respectable damage, strong ganks, scales well throughout the game.

Vicarious1171 votes

I used to play him back in the day as well, early season 4 I think? I was never a fan of his carry potential is all, he feels like a "pseudo-carry," like you get your lanes fed early game and hope they don't fuck it up mid-late game lol

I'll still try him out again though, thnx!

you mentioned owning Volibear, and he is quite strong in the jungle. he's in a great spot where he's never in the spotlight during the tank metas where champions like DrMundo (currently) Garen (occasionally) and Sejuani (cinderhulk) are constantly being banned or contested, but he's always gained the same benefits of tank metas, and even outside of tank metas he is quite strong. The addition of item 3742 was an absolute godsend for him, as it is arguably better on the bear than it is on everyone else, and helps him avoid being kited to death, which has always been his biggest weakness.

XinZhao isn't bad at all, and from the state of the PBE it looks like riot is looking to buff him. the changes on the PBE that everyone is screaming about are very unlikely to make it to live, but they're clearly looking to buff him in some way, because again he's currently overshadowed by the likes of Jax and MasterYi

and of course, i can't write up jungler recommendations without any mention of my boy MonkeyKing. his ganking and initiation with his E is great, especially combined with his W, which gives him so much versatility as far as what you want to do. he really doesn't need much damage to become a major threat, and you can build him very tanky while still being quite dangerous, which is only helped with items like item 3156 item 3025 item 3742

Poppy is a good jungle tank. Though I'd also recommend Olaf jungle.
