It also gives his critical strikes 50% bonus armor penetration for 15 whole seconds.

{quoted} Given all the downsides Yasuo's ult already has, this extra functionality really isn't that unreasonable.

Sure it's conditional, but doesn't Yasuo gain his shield back on top 15 seconds of 50% armor penetration? You shouldn't get free help from coding just because you got too greedy and made a bad play. Yasuo players know full well that their ult is going to position them 'on top' of the enemy champ if they use it, so why should they get a free out for making a stupid play that could otherwise kill them? I'm seriously confused by this kind of logic. You can't even try to bait a dumb yasuo player into killing himself by ulting you under tower most of the time due to this dumb mechanic. Yasuo is already known to be a lane bully that can force an opponent under tower due to constant dash harass. He shouldn't be able to make sitting under tower unsafe 50% of the time (depending on how deep they are) as well, due to some dumb code. His ult scales extremely well (150% ratio), it applies CC that cannot be reduced, it resets his shield and gives him 15 seconds of 50% armor pen... and you're saying the downsides of needing to throw himself into the enemy lines greatly out-ways these bonuses?

Cause he needs alot of hand holding mechanics

Gated ult and dash ability. Long cooldown wind wall.

Hand holding mechanics.

iamthegoatofwar18 votes

Windwall blocks all projectiles from the moment it is cast as the wall is going out and from both sides of the wall. Check mate.

Saljooki4 votes

Its up for about 5 seconds. It has a 20+ second cooldown. 15 seconds of no defense lul checkmate

iamthegoatofwar6 votes

his passive shield doesn't count as a way to defend? His dashes to escape people isn't considered a way to defend? Not to mention the only counter play that wall has is its cool down. Given all the things I listed above this cd is needed. If they were to change the way the wall worked then MAYBE they could think about slightly lowering the cooldown, but for now it's justified.

Again you have no argument. The debate is over in my favor. You're free to go now.

Saljooki5 votes

Who? What? How do you think you just win because you tell yourself you do? Who do you think you are?

The counterplay to windwall is walking around it. Or letting him use it and not engaging. Or not using an important skillshot when you know he has it. Or bait it out. Or anything else but cooldown.

The shield is a nice ability, but in a fight he wont get it back without ulting.

Why do people hate the windwall SO MUCH? I just dont understand. The cooldown is justified, I am not denying that, but the ability in my opinion shouldnt fuel so much hatred in people.

I was like you guys. I always hated Yasuo. Then I played him and tried to understand things people were telling me. Now I dont hate Yasuo and I understand how to beat him. I recommend everyone who hates Yasuo to play him when hes on free or whenever. Play against hard cc. Play against a counter. Play against a safe mage like Syndra or Ori. Play against Pantheon. Do anything.

iamthegoatofwar6 votes
  • Played him when he was released. Hated seeing him at all then. Still hate seeing him now. The whole "he can 0/7/0 and then get a lucky triple and be unstoppable" is not a god damn joke.

  • Also I am the one who understands why everyone hates this damn ability. It literally outside of CD has no counter play for ranged champs.

parrot66324 votes

look.

i'm gonna try to honestly tell you why i hate wind wall so much.

Wind wall is frustrating because.

  1. The hitbox for blocking something is extremely generous and it comes out of yasuo. this means that if even a pixel of a giant spell (I.E nami wave) touches it the spell is removed. Not to mention aiming it is no harder then clicking in the general direction of the opponent.

  2. lack of counterplay options i'll list the counterplay below and whats wrong with each of them.

"You can walk through it" Useful if yasuo happens to be running from you but useless otherwise because your walking in melee range of a yasuo.

"You can walk around it" sometimes. Most of the time as an adc or mage you end up horribly mispositioned in a teamfight because wind wall is obnoxiously large. In lane walking around it leaves you extremely open to a jungle gank or close to yasuo anyways because he'll dash to you.

"Just wait it out" Yeah no. Wind wall has an extremely long duration of 4 seconds. Thats enough time for an entire teamfight to be decided, for your frontline to die because you can't do shit while their entire team is attacking them.

"Bait it then go in" Wonderful. now i'm relying not on anything i do but on my opponent being stupid enough to waste a crucial spell on an autoattack.

  1. Wind wall is genuinely an extremely easy and no skill spell to use besides the cooldown. "but yasuo takes a lot of skill" yeah i agree but nothing about windwall involves any kind of skill besides not wasting it. Congrats you have to have the capabilities of having to deal with cooldown management like every other champion.

  2. Its just another get out of jail free card you have to deal with in his kit.

Lets imagine we're ganking yasuo shall we.

Your malphite pings he's coming in for a gank. Your playing Syndra/lux/orianna/fuckinganymage so as malphite is coming in you throw your cc and yasuo dashes out of the way. Malphite ults yasuo but you can't kill him because his shield absorbs too much burst. You throw one more spell to try and kill him and yasuo just wind walls. you could maybe have predicted the dash if you were fucking faker but he would have just dashed the other direction anyways. You could have walked into auto range except yasuo could easily kill you if you got up that far even though he'd probably die to malphite right afterwards. and you could do jack shit about the wind wall except hope yasuo's bad.

Arakadia12 votes

Fifteen seconds of no defense? He's got a dash for EVERY enemy in reach AND no cost fat shield.

Saljooki5 votes

How is having a dash for targetable things comparable to a defense?

Also, his shield takes time to come back. If it gets taken off in a fight he wont get it back in time to fight.

MS yas has a thing or two to say abot that.

Lanson3 votes

You kids are pathetic. Would you rather him have a shield that can be activated or one that he has to time and play around. I don't even play yasuo but you guys need to stop crying and learn how to play around him. Yasuo is only good in solo queue because of people like you.

Knalxz12 votes

Yasuo already has a shield.

He gets it from simply walking.

Lanson3 votes

Exactly. Much better than getting it from pressing a button right?

SzGamer2277 votes

Yes, it is better. A no-cost shield that pops up automatically to eat up the first chunk of damage that touches you is definitely preferable to a shield you have to deploy and can be baited out by opponents and wasted due to human error. I wish all my shields were as frustrating to play against as Yasuo's. ;D

Lanson3 votes

Or instead of baiting it you just pop it when it activates against his will

Voluug134 votes

If you ''pop it when it activates against his will'' he can just engage on you.

A yasuo in lane can have a silly amount of empowered Q uptime on lane.

Voluug135 votes

That the moment that you try to enter range to poke him, he just engages you E->Q3>E away.

Also Yasuo doesnt lose the entire shield, it just procs. He still has a shield for a couple of seconds, which is often enough to offset any damage his enemy can do before E'ing away.

Not to mention he can use windwall to just not lose the shield at all, and commit to longer trade which he will win any time.

Basically, Yasuo's game pattern and scaling rate give him every reason to play reactively until 1-2 items because he will outscale every single midlaner by then. This is why ''baiting'' the windwall doesnt work, because he doesnt need it to engage: because there is no reason for Yasuo to engage on laning phase when he can perfectly outscale anyone that isnt an adc by 2-3 items in.

His entire kit is made to be reactive and always come out on top unless the enemy midlaner can mostly ignore his windwall (IE Vlad) and power though.

SzGamer2277 votes

{quoted}

Okay then he engages without his shield, what's the issue?

You say that as if you pop the shield, and then Yasuo politely waits out the shield's duration before engaging on you.

If you're a long-ranged mage, you can only pop the shield by using a high-damage spell that is blocked by the shield and leaves one of your important abilities on cooldown, or you get into auto attack range and give Yasuo an easy engage.

If you're melee, you let Yasuo engage on your for no effort and force a trade that can easily swing in Yasuo's favor because of the shield.

Voluug132 votes

No one is saying that he is strong, necessarely.

Just that his kit covers him too much for a champion that outscales almost all of the lane roster he faces, even when beyind.

While also being a pita to face on said lane.

When Yasuo ults, he is suspended and cant move or cancel his ult. His shield does not block tower shots. He has the lowest base HP of any melee champ. He needs something to compensate all of this.

This is the compensation.

Dream High4 votes

How about not ulting the tower? It's just rewarding bad decision making by removing the penalties.

Saljooki3 votes

Yasuo is a champion that is and should excel at tower diving. WIthout minions he can only dash once, and that is in the direction of the tower. If he dives too much, he will be completely under tower when ulting. The ult also only positions him outside of range when the champion he is ulting is on the edge of the tower range. It doesn't reward bad decision making. It solidifies the consequences of bad decision making.

Nani? That's an example of getting rewarded for bad decsion making

This guy's post sums up this mechanic in one simple sentence. It rewards a champion for their player's bad engagement choice. It's not like the coding's range protection halves his ultimate's damage or gives him a weaker shield when it does cheat his placement, the guy still gets all of his power back, including the armor pen buff. It's a free reward with no downside to being bad at decision making. Every other champ would get blown up if they chose to dive at the wrong time without their escapes (or flash) up, so why doesn't Yas?

FutureCreator8 votes

Warwick has a very similar ult, wherein he can't move while casting it but he isn't protected from the big bad towers now is he. Also you neglect to mention yasuo can just dash away right after killing you under tower.

Leetri6 votes

Yasuo can't control where the ult puts him, Warwick can. Read DunkinNoobs' reply a few comments down, he explains it pretty well. But basically, Yasuo is automatically put behind his target unless he's on the very edge of the tower radius. Warwick in the same scenario would land in front of his target, so he'd never be in danger of tower shots anyway.

For misjudging the tower distance or being greedy for a kill?

Ok lets put your logic onto other champions shall we?

Rammus has low mobility outside of his Q so to compensate his W now reflects tower shots

Zyra has the lowest base HP of any Range champion so Towers now ignore her plants to compensate

Malzahar can't move while he ults so now his shield refreshes to compensate

No other champion, no matter if they are ranged, melee, tanky or squishy gets compensation for diving under tower, they do so ether as a miscalculation or are aware of the risk, That's why Tower diving is a High Risk High Reward move...Unless your Yasuo

The same should apply to Yasuo

Sadly the mains are going to downvote you for pointing out that their favorite champ gets to be an exception when he ults under tower 50% of the time.

There is something awesome called "don't be an idiot an towerdive if yo think the enemy tower is going to kill you". It works great in other champions, you know.

BeatzBoyFTW21 votes

The guy has like 3 types of protection:

  • his passive shield.
  • Windwall
  • spammable dashes with his E, where it also helps granting more flow to his passive.

And you're telling me despite having all those, he still needs baby-protection when he chooses to dive "under" turret?

EDIT: To those who downvoted btw, mb for the misunderstanding.

Red Wreckage6 votes

has lowest base HP among all melee champs no scaling MR an ult he cant use without successfully hitting other abilities or a knockup from him team some of the lowest base damage dealing basic abilities(values are almost a joke)

sutora36 votes

let me hit you with some FACTS his base health is balanced around his shield (like mordekaiser) that is why he has so small hp and mini kled has less base hp than yasuo first of he gains 0.5 mr per lv and the reason why is because how scaling mr is balanced ranged champions get 0.5 per lv and mele get 1.25. BUT because of his e which has 0.1 seconds STATIC cooldown and 475 range so you can reach an enemy from 950 range for 0.2 seconds with 0 cooldown reduction his ult has 1200 range, do you want it to be a point and click suspension to possibly 5 enemies also ALL kinds of displacements work for his ult and his e+q third q combo is always guarantied his q has a low scaling and base damage because of his 2X crit chance passive and this itemitem 3031 which when crits increases its damage by 150% so at lv 18 he has 700 damage with only ie(he probably has other items and bigger damage) if you think that yasuo's values are bad then look at trundamere and yi who have a SINGLE damaging ability(yi's other abilities are stereoids)

DunkinNoobs15 votes

{quoted}

I see downvotes but I don't see anyone explaining why this mechanic is good.

Given how conditional his ult already is and its lower than average damage for a fighter type champion, making it unusable near towers would make it far too weak in 1v1 scenarios.

Also, people are vastly exaggerating how this mechanic actually works. When Yasuo ults a target, he typically appears directly behind the champion "nothing personal, kid" style. However, if Yasuo ults a target just within a towers range, it will position him on a different side of his opponent so as to not eat a free turret shot while he's stuck in his ult animation. This only works when the enemy is just inside the towers range. A champion standing closer to their tower will suck Yasuo into it just like you'd expect because Yasuo must be very close to the enemy champion during his ult animation: approximately 300 units. It will not ever allow Yasuo to avoid tower shots while ulting someone directly under a tower. Given all the downsides Yasuo's ult already has, this extra functionality really isn't that unreasonable.

Votable Jester4 votes

It doesn't have amazing damage itself, but it provides great cc and gives great penetration for his attacks after his ult.

DunkinNoobs9 votes

In a 1v1, it CC's himself for the entire duration as well, making the effect of the CC a net zero. The bonus armor pen also only works against bonus armor, so against squishy champs, it basically does nothing. Compared to ults from other fighters like Riven's, Fiora's, Irelia's, etc., its a really mediocre dueling powerspike especially given how hard it can be to use. The only thing that makes it even remotely good in close duel situations is the shield refresh and that effect was added after his release precisely because his ult was far too weak in 1v1 situations otherwise.

PB4UAME3 votes

A CC that buffs you, resets your passive shield, and lets you do damage while they are completely locked out is not in any way, shape, nor form wasted. Get the FUCK out of here with that bullshit.
