Just a quick look at the ambient gold changes that are being used to justify all item cost changes.
FOR DOING NOTHING, YOU GET 9.5 gold per 5 seconds ⇒ 10.2 gold per 5 seconds 9.5 gold / 5 seconds = 1.9 gold per second 10.2 gold / 5 seconds = 2.04 gold per second
2.04 - 1.9 = .14 gold per second increase with the buff.
.14 gold per second * 60 seconds = 8.4 gold per minute extra. 10 min = 84 gold 20 min = 168 gold 30 min = 252 gold

BluePolarizer1 votesambient gold increases reward the unskilled who literally do nothing, while item cost increases punish solo carrying especially for top laners and junglers. This also has the secondary effect of making utility supports not as useful (except gold hungry ones like Soraka), and thus you should just take a damage AP support.

Also, aren't utility supports in a better spot? More gold for items that weren't really affected.
BluePolarizer1 votesreal mages got shafted for sure. utility supports... well, here's what I've found: everyone blows up so fast, going utility doesn't do much. better to just have an AP threat like Vel'Koz or Brand that doesn't need items, rather than risk your mid getting shut down.

Soraka's broken Sona's relevant again (spellthief buffs help her a lot in lane) Janna is very strong too with the windspeaker mastery Didn't play Nami yet but she probably does good too
Enhancing and protecting the ADC in a context where they're so strong is very powerful imo. Moreso than being a tank support but getting shredded before you can actually engage because ADCs hit like fucking trucks.
