I miss when Dragon just gave gold.

Hang onto your pitchforks for just a second.

I think old Dragon was still meaningful and less snowbally. 1000 team gold was nothing to scoff at, and neither was getting 3 or 4 Dragons to be up a collective 3-4000. The best part about it is that smart play from the team that was down on Dragons or dumb decisions from the team that was up on Dragons could allow the team that was behind to farm/ganksquad/take turrets to make up the difference. There was actual counterplay other than just take more Dragons than the other team.

With new Dragon, if you ever find your team behind and make some great decision that gives you a window at taking Dragon, you get rewarded with a turret burn instead of closing the gap in gold disparity. Unless it's your first Dragon your team really doesn't benefit in a meaningful way to help turn the game around. Everything new Dragon does benefits the team that is ahead way more than the team that's trying to make a comeback. I'm also tired of thinking/hearing my teammates say, "We've already got 1 dragon stack, it's not worth contesting right now" because the other team isn't going for their 5th stack.

Honestly I was hopeing when rift herald was being released that it would be the old drake so the teams would have to make the major choice between perma stats or gold.

ClatoVerataNicto3 votes

That would have been great.

Rift Herald could of been such a great feature for the game but ultimately failed. Still waiting for the day bot lane isn't a 5v5 lane.

In a meta where bot lane will be the single and only reason why you lost the game, bot lane will always receive the priority of my roams and ganks.

The reason I quit maining adc.

I also feel like the old dragon was way better for game health and balance

"Unless its first dragon it doesn't benefit your team in any meaningful way".

Holy shit, guys. Why do people say this?

Back when Janna's passive gave her team 3% MS it was OP and had to be changed because of how MS affects trades, CSing and team fights.

3rd dragon is insanely powerful, it can turn fights on their head. DMP, Runic Echoes, Boots of Swiftness...wake up! Move speed is the strongest stat in the game, and assuming all your team have at least 400, you gain 20 each for a huge advantage.

Dodging skill shots, escaping melees, baiting, contesting objectives, pushing, chasing, defending! 3rd dragon helps with every aspect of the game except recalling, the one time you actually stand in place.

Too soon, bro.

People recognize dragons 1, 3, and 5 as valuable. People undervalue 2 and 4. Undervaluing 2 makes them never get to the point of the decision to get 3 or not. If they got 2 they're thinking about 5, not 3.

Janna's MS bonus took effect at lvl. 1 where the small MS boost made a gigantic difference.

Late game, the MS boost wasn't as effective.

Late game? You can get drag 3 by 20 minutes, easy.

T1 dragon is strong, T3 dragon is strong, T5 dragon is game-ending.

Problem is, T2 and T4 are worth less than just knocking down a tower. It's rarely worth it if there's literally any other objective available.

Just another lame snowball mechanic.

Awkward Couch6 votes

Because, you know, turrets are so difficult to take down now. /s

ClatoVerataNicto1 votes

It's the snowball mechanics that bother me.

T3 Dragon is definitely good, but nothing that vision and proper planning can't counteract. It certainly doesn't help too much if you're attempting to siege or defend.

I prefer the 'gives your team a buff' version of the dragon to the 'gives your team gold' version.

It's more interesting, and if a particular tier of the buff is problematic they could change it to any number of things.

LatetotheRace1 votes

Yea, they've already shown no interest in changing the buffs. (To what the community says anyway.....)

SHlTBUG3 votes

they just changed buffs 2 and 4

I miss everything about S3-4 league honestly. Unarguably the best seasons, and League's hayday.

Remember bak in S3-S4 when people were talking about how S2 was the League's hayday? Pepperidge farm remembers.

Tbh I thought that was boring. I much prefer the current system

I personally like the new Dragon. Getting the turret burn allows you take towers faster, which leads to more gold.

A Miss Fortune3 votes

I think the last thing this game needs is for towers to be even weaker. I feel so scummy for being able to kill 1 person on the enemy team and proceed to take 3 towers and an inhibitor in one go with only half my team.

Lugg1 votes

I completely agree that towers are a joke. This buff to Dragon should pave the way for Riot to increase their survivability now. That way the buff actually means something.

Bard in a Diaper1 votes

I love it as a nasus main. Why ever leave top or do anything except push top when I know taking dragon is just a pile of shit and ill gladly trade your tier 2 top turret for it

BeatinWarDrumz1 votes

ehh.... I disagree. Honestly, just getting gold feels very passive, whereas with the updated drag, all of the buffs are reasonably good.

BluePolarizer1 votes

Right now if you get 4 dragons but the enemy team gets 1 net kill per dragon, the enemy team is ahead.

So basically, a dragon is a lower objective than a kill is.

I personally don't miss the times when a jungler could sneak dragon before lv6 to guarantee his team mates win laning phase.

Nekusen1 votes

hope they will make it like that again one day

It would be nice to get a private server that was patched to be around the end of season 3 but before preseason 4. Getting back to the good old days before everything became too convoluted to be of value.
