Question about Caitlyn

I am trying to learn adc and I am a little confused about something with Cait. When someone steps on a trap, what is the aiming arc that appears for and how is it used? I am not really seeing much info about this particular thing online? Is there a way that it auto aims or something useful like that? Or is it just something you can use to know where they are so you can manually aim more easily? Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I am actually struggling to see how it is used by searching online. Maybe I'm not using the right search terms, but I am just not seeing it.

You mean the curve that appears when someone steps on it??? You get increased AA range and a free headshot when someone steps on your trap. It's there to A. Let you know they stepped on it and B. Let you know how far your AA range is extended for.

So it isn't meant for aiming then. See that is what confuses me. it looks like something that should be allowing you to aim something at someone you can't immediately see on your screen. The way the thing in the center moves based on your position relative to the enemy champion it seems like an aiming device of some kind.
