Man, I just blew about 9000 IP on runes

and it still wasn't enough to complete one page :/

My smurf hit 20 a while ago. I saved up almost all the IP from 1-20 and it was enough for most of a page. Considering how long it takes to level, that's really sad.

9x armor, MR, magic pen, AD 3x AD, AP

Everyone should have 2 standard pages by thirty. Once you build one you already have half of the second one. It's only a problem if you do something dumb like start off with a very champion specific page.

i got 3 rune pages, 3rd one is for my supports

Space Bum2 votes

Right at 30?

stevedoesmc1 votes

no i had the 3rd one filled before 30

This is right. When I was starting out one of my buddies helped me buy my first set of runes at level 20. He told me scaling MR, flat armor and flat AD. AD quints.

I started with standard runes, then started working my way towards runes for AD, AP top/jg, ADC, and AP Mid. (Which I still need 2 ap quints for) Then I have 2 other pages for specific runes for champs I play a lot.

I was able to have 2 filled rune pages by level 20 (filled to the extent you can at level 20), and completed them at level 30.

You must have spent a lot of IP on other things to not be able to get 2 pages.

I bought 4 champions for around 4k total. Imagine you're a new player. You'd probably want to buy a LOT more than 4 champions as soon as you could, only realizing later on that runes are so important and expensive.

I WAS a new player.

I just was smart enough to research a bit about the huge fucking game i was playing and see the suggestions to save for rune pages.

Even with a ton of bot games played i reached level 20/30 with more than enough IP to purchase 2 full generic rune pages.

Runes are too fucking expensive, but not what is being exaggerated here.

Mandaari3 votes

You're nowhere close to the typical case. The vast majority of people (casual players) won't go do research. They'll see a champion they want to play and buy it. Hell, I've had plenty of friends start playing, be told to save for runes, and buy champions anyway just because saving isn't fun. Just because you have your experience doesn't mean everyone else shares it.

Durzaka1 votes

If youre looking to spend dozens if not hundreds of hours on a video game, why the fuck wouldnt you do some research into it?

Mandaari2 votes

Because people just want to play or they straight up don't care. What feels better to you, playing a shiny new champion or passively being slightly stronger on the free week champions? I would guess that 90% or more players don't want to min-max. I am 100% educated about how necessary runes are, I'd definitely be considered a hardcore player, yet I still have to consciously restrain myself from buying champions on my smurf. Power be damned, runes aren't fun.

They should make icons that say 50k, 100k, 150k, 200k, 250k etc., up to like 1m. They should all cost that much IP respectively just to show off you had the IP to blow.

Can you even get 1m IP?

Meeks0111 votes

I get like 1000 IP a day, how the fuck do you have that much?

Jingerbeardman1 votes

It has been over a year since I finished buying all of the runes... and I played a lot last year.

I also got all of the champions and rune pages before even starting on the my quest for buying all the useless runes out.

Dreadlocks7 votes

I have so many runes I wish I could refund some of them for at least half of what i spent on them lol

rtbf2112795183 votes

Wow, considering that runes are the foundation for getting better at League, you'd think that they'd be less expensive. I mean, I really want to have runes for my mages but this is just telling me to not even try to get those. -.-

Worst Mid Ever3 votes

shouldve just bought hecarim, you dont need runes for him, you dont even need a keyboard, just bind Q to your scroll wheel lmao

if you have tier 1 and tier 2 runes left you can always combine them and hope that you get good ones

They removed the rune combiner

Anrui7 votes

weren't they supposed to remove the tier 1 and 2 runes too because it is a total trap for new players?

They removed the really shitty T1 and T2 and cut the IP Cost on the remaining ones by ALOT. Owning those runes now serves as a good learning experience instead of just a trap.

DarkFaun Fortes4 votes

I fell in this trap before they fixed in and am still trying to recover

Hocker2 votes

should have bought them at the beginning of the season when it was half-off

RyzeRework2 votes

lol i bought about half the champions with rp so now i own every champion i could spend 9k ip and get it back in 2 weeks (i only play 3 times a week more or less)

Digivolve2 votes

I'm sitting at about 50k ip and have nothing to spend it on lol.

Orangesilk2 votes

Don't worry kid, in a while you will find yourself sitting on 9 rune pages, all the relevant runes in the game, all the champions you love/like/don't despise, and 30000ip wondering "Okay, now what?, I guess scaling AP reds can't be TOO bad, gonna buy me some Urgots while I'm at it"

my last ip spendings it were a name change for 13900 (omfg, rito) and a useless icon for 2000 -_-

that's like asking why people buy skins

LeeDark2 votes

No, skins are not useless to me. They serve the purpose of making the champion look better to me than the base skin. It would be like asking someone why they bought a particular skin after they just admitted hating that skin.

The base skins on these guys are soooo bad, you pretty much have to buy super galaxy/ spirit guard/ battlecast if you want to be taken seriously.

I have all Champions purchased (with IP), 12 Rune Pages and a large amount of excess IP.

If Riot lowers Rune Prices, I'll expect compensation in RP for my time spent grinding for them.

Why aren't you buying 8 more pages?

Space Bum2 votes

Not that guy but I'm 2 shy of max rune pages and have the spare IP but I always just rework the pages I have. 10 really covers everything I need the rest are normally just troll or for testing.

Celeste Benal6 votes

You're not spending it. So what exactly do you need compensation for?

You are the exact type of person that stops Riot lowering prices. Why do you expect compensation exactly?

People are so spiteful. You would have spent the same amount of time playing LoL no matter how expensive runes are, but you say "Not unless I get compensated" because anyone having an easier time getting runes than you isn't allowed. You sound like an 80 year old gay man saying "I couldn't get married so they better not make it legal now".

Just because people had to go through shit in the past doesn't mean it shouldn't be made easier in the future. That's what progress is all about.

I know runes are expensive but which ones where you buying? The hybrid penetration ones?

9000 IP for 27 runes is only 333 average per rune. That's assuming he didn't bother buying the OMG THEY'RE HOW MUCH?!? quints as well.

That make sense, given that most of the runes are 410+ IP.

Snowplosion1 votes

Wonder why mine cost only around 7000... I did buy all the cheap ones. But... I just don't know.

Meanie401 votes

Sure, if you don't care what the runes actually do, you can fill out a rune page (including quints) for 7080 IP. There is a decent combination of everything but quints at 5535 IP - Attack Damage marks, Armor seals, and Magic Resist glyphs would get you there, and that's a traditional ADC page.

But it is quite possible to spend 9000 IP and not fill a page.

EffectFX1 votes

This will sounds harsh, but deal with it. Riot has to make a profit somehow, and the easiest way to do that is to encourage players to spend real cash on the game. Forcing players to choose between spending IP on runes/champions is one of the ways they do this.

Edit= some people suck at reading comprehension.
