@Riot How are Health & Mana values chosen when creating a champ?

I'm not speaking of particular cases such as Sion having low base health and health growth due to his W passive or Lissandra having a low mana pool due to her passive.

But like, compare Nocturne to Gragas.

Nocturne has 583 base health while Gragas has 584.

Does that 1 single Health Point make a difference balance wise?

Because I don't feel like it does.

Maybe I'm wrong.

Maybe some people wanted Nocturne to have 580 health while others wanted 585 base health so you settled inbetween those values.

You know what I mean?

It feels like those values are picked at random.

Anyways, thoughts.

If you didn't understand what my point was, here it is.

Nocturne has 583 health.

Not 580, not 585. Exactly 583 base health.

#583

While Gragas has 584 base health.

#584

What is the difference between both?

Why not just settle some base values for stats and balance from that point?

Like what you currently have with Movement speed.

Look at AD values http://leagueoflegends.wikia.com/wiki/List_of_champions%27_attack_damage Lulu lvl 1 AD = 46.368 Twisted Fate lvl 1 AD = 49.954 ...Just... Why?

Lulu and Twisted Fate both have an on hit portion that enhances their auto attack.

Mana is given based on the user's abilities, ability cooldowns/cost and their damage.

Nocturne has very low mana because he is AD oriented.

Gragas has higher base mana because he needs to cast abilities.

Unless everyone had the same abilities I cannot ever see mana being fully standardized.

You didn't get my point.

Nocturne has 583 health.

Gragas has 584.

Why?

In this 1 point difference to 2 melee, tanky jungler/top lane champs the only answer is just because

Or you could try reading the entire post rather than seeing two names and stopping. The thread isn't about Nocturne and Gragas, they're just an example of numbers seeming arbitrary.

On topic, agreed with the OP that the numbers they choose are really curious. I assume they have some sort of formula to choose their values, but who knows really.

I read the entire post. I choose to address mana because I literally think 1 health points makes no difference. If you're going to ask for staff to come here I doubt their answer for this particular case will be different from mine.

If you want to talk about drastic differences like Nunu and Sona the op has already addressed this issue when he gave the Lissandra example.

But if you don't care about the question he asked ("why are there such tiny differences?") then why even bother answering the thread? You chose to answer a question the OP wasn't even asking.

I wanted to address a topic in the thread title. I fail to understand why all of you are so hostile. If it's in the title, why can't I address it.
