Ok, wtf is up with these plants?

I mean... honestly, I thought that RIOT wanted to have less random elements in the game, and now first they made random dragons and now some random plants in the jungle?

I mean, you removed most random elements in the game besides critical strike, and now you keep on adding more and more new random stuff?

I think they're trying to solve the problems with smite buffs.

As it stands there is always a 'best' camp to smite, and this is problematic because it's complexity without depth. Players without knowledge of how the smite buffs work will make mistakes that they don't know are mistakes, while players who do know how they work will just always do the right thing.

You then run into the issue of which set of players is the jungle tuned for?

fucking google wtf to smite. it takes 10 games as a jungler to see what every smite does if that.

oh gromp gives me some shitty poison, no thanks. wolves gives sight thats situationally good. blue gave me mana back, oh and i got this buff for killing it, cool! krugs huh i take less damage and stun once in awhile, thats good for early clearing. red ooooh i got hp back! now i burn things and regen too! raptors let me see an enemy ward! neat!

tired of this "complexity" bullshit. its transparent as hell as soon as you play a few games, i understand wanting to make jungle changes, but rng ruins games.

Oh, I'm not saying that these plants are the right solution to the problem that the smite buffs present.

Also, red and blue buffs aren't going away, just smite buffs.

Season 8 preseason river changes: Since plants in the jungle were realistic and thematic last season, if you are low health crossing the river, you have a random chance to trip and drown. We believe this adds to the realism of the game and are confident this will improve gameplay health moving forward.

Whenever you eat a biscuit or drink a potion, there is a chance you will choke on it and stun yourself (while you cough).

I guess after the success of the dragons they wanted to see what else they could implement.
