Is mid the new tank lane?

GigglesO··1 votes·894 views

Tanks went top season 1 and 2 because they could survive a long lane gank. Season 3 rolled around and tanks saw a nerf but still went top. Season 4 came, and in that time tanks had more nerfs, and their core items got nerfed as well. Now they have almost no survive ability for early game, and almost no escapes to get away from the high mobility junglers.

Mid has historically been ap for two reasons, 1 roaming, 2 a shorter lane for early game survival.

Could it be that we transition tanks to mid, since Riot refuses to believe tanks have early game issues, as well as late game issues?

Mages don't really have the mana or health sustain for top, something that tanks are in no lack of.

Tanks don't have mana or health sustain either.

And assassins are effectively gated by energy.

I only see 2 mages, both of which have very unique kits that allow them to build off-mage.

I see 5, though 3 are assassin mages.

Dunno WHAT Kayle is, though.

yeah most toplane mages are resourceless and have tons of sustain

With dragon more of a contested early objective than ever, a lot of firepower needs to be concentrated Bot. By swaping your mages to top, you slow their response to getting to these objectives, as well as increase retravel time, which could cause lane to be lost. Top, on the other hand is so far removed from the true early game of LoL, that usually it becomes a farm fest regardless of what role is in lane. Therefore, leaving tanks, who have their greatest strength in the mid/mid-late game top, allowing them to farm up and reach that as fast as possible, so that they will hit their power spike to keep in line with the rest of the team.

Who says anything about sending mages top? They can support too.... and almost all of the tanks are ap tanks.

Also, top isn't a farm fest when you have someone like riven against mundo, or nasus or any tank toplane, it is a death lane.

Either you didn't read, or you didn't understand.

1.) Supports, actual supports, will almost always be tied to ADCs, just accept that. Sending Malzahar, or Katarina bot doesn't make them a support, it makes them competition for kills because the are both carries. Splitting the gold, and cs between them weakens the team.

2.) Even if they are AP tanks, (which most of the are not,) they don't do as much damage as a carry, that equals damage lost on objectives and pressure botlane.

3.) All three of the champs you mentioned are designed to last hit well Riven needs her level 3 ASAP and has a huge power boost at 6, don't tell me she isn't farming to get there. Mundo lacks a lot of duel potential without his ult, he's going to farm for that straight away. Nasus literally is at his most powerful when he can farm, please, toplane has always been a farm lane. Tat's why Koreans sent their ADC redside toplane last season, because the free farm was worthwhile. Shush, little baby.

I could say the same about you reading my post.

You are suggesting to keep the meta the same way it has always been for the same reason it has always been that way.

If you could read and think before typing that would be great.

To your points

  1. There is no reason bot lane can't be a kill lane. Historically it has been a kill lane on and off, between ap Annies, and support Pantheons and Rengars.

"Splitting gold weakens the team" is actually false. Assuming that the support is capable of doing something it actually reinforces the team's ability to do something. Have you ever seen a fed Taric, Leona, or Braum that got ahead of the enemy support and their adc won the trade not because of how many items they had, but because of how tanky the support was? ~I have

  1. You are so focused on "damage" that you are blind to how much tanks really do. Honestly you lose "damage" but now you have someone that can tank dragon earlier in the game. (Assuming you have a squishy jungler and support).

  2. You completely ignore the fact that champions like riven, pantheon, rengar, jayce can completely stop a "farming tank top" from farming, and that is why they have historically been sent top, not to farm, but to push another champion out of lane so they don't reach late game.

Now if instead of just calling somone a "little baby" and you feel like having a civilized discussion about how the meta is shifting, and the reasons this may or may not work I would love to have one. However, seeing that you don't even read into the comment and you are a meta sheep that sees no reason for the meta to ever change, you can stay bronze all you want.

No. But some of the half-tank out there can somewhat be viable in a meta that see a mid lane full of assassin. I mean, for example a champ like morde which some time ago was completely pushed out of mid lane when there were the spamming AP mage pokers (and didn't had a place anymore cause the other lanes are too long for his low mobility), now is kinda viable again against certain match-ups(heck, in some cases he can even do good)

Idk, I do fine when playing with tanks. I mean, your point is that top lane is too long? Well, if you place 2 wards, you can pretty much negate that whole argument. Sure, if you overextend without wards you can get ganked easily, but taking your tank mid lane won't change that.
