Bard, what's your experience?

Bards been out a couple days now. I've been trying out a few games with him, some going well, some hilariously bad as I try to learn him and what he does.

So the big question, how balanced is he? This is the question I pose to the community, and what changes you would make to improve him in the current meta.

Thus far I am finding him to have a great kit, but overall be slightly under powered. Here's why: Most of his kit is short range and his stats aren't all that tanky (regular 2kish hp and armor ranges etc), so he kind of wants you to be in peoples faces but dies doing it. If you build him very tanky he works better, but his CC isn't superior to thresh's or leona's who do something similar.

I would:

1.) Just barely love tap the range on Q, so you don't have to be quite so in their face to make it happen.

2.) Reduce the number of charms you need for the next bonuses because it encourages running around the map and away from your team too often. You really need the charms for all the added effects they give too, so you don't want to just pass them up.

3.) Make meeps spawn for Bard a little more often since his only damage is Q and meeps.

4.) Very slight increase in HP or armor. Just enough so he can survive being jumped on by the enemy support in the worst case scenario assuming he has good positioning and plays it out accordingly.

5.) The mana cost on the heal is HUUGGEE. Can we either please reduce the overall cost or increase the flat heal that it gives before having to charge up?

What do the rest of you think?

Thank you.

Win rate CURRENTLY says weak, but I'd wager he just needs time before we can judge his strength.

He's different than other supports (You're actively encouraged to roam, when otherwise it's more of an optional thing), and he seems like he'd really have to communicate with his allies ("Is it appropriate to roam? How do you guys want me to use my ult?") so even if people figure him out, Solo Queue might not be the best indicator of his potential anyway.

Roaming currently hurts him in exp/gold. Not worth to do, but you have to kinda.

Bard is really just... meh I would rather have almost anyone else as a support, because bard overall has lower damage, lower CC, pretty average utility for a utility support, and overall just feels like he does nothing compared to others. Another point being there's a good reason supports go bot with the adc, adcs are extremely easy targets early on, and with no support there it's basically free food. Whenever bard roams the enemy is either going to pressure your ADC to the point where they get almost no farm, or straight up kill them. Not to mention, bard also sucks at laning so even when he is there, it isn't a huge difference. Bard is mostly a teamfight/utility support and he doesn't even do that all too well, his ult has a huge potential to screw up and as mentioned, he's far from being any kind of tanky. Another note is that he requires the team to be on a voice chat to be used effectively, needs lots of teamwork and communication to be really viable .(basically, you should never use him in ranked soloQ)

I have a blast playing him, not sure how useful he actually is.

1- Make so the secondary shot from his Q doesnt hit minions. Its super short range and slow, easy to avoid especially laning. If it at least let the stunning part bypass minions and prioritize champions, it might become useful.

2- Some sort of increase in chime exp. Roaming to find them outs you behind in exp and gold. The meeps increases arent worth anything because he does no damage anyways. Super risky to get them, if your not in lane enemy jungle knows he can get you.

3-Increase his damage. Drop a heal, throw a Q, then rum cause you cant do anything else.

4-Or increase his tankyness, so you can be in the fight trying to land stuns.

My wish list. In my opinions he's almost really fun to play, but even in normals he's not useful

In a word I'd describe him as underwhelming. I've had one decent Bard in a dozen games or so on my team and only one real painful one on the other team. I realise he will take time to learn but the only real harass he offers is via Q which is a skillshot and stops at two targets. It's great if you land one against a wall or snare the bot lane together but the chances of that are rare. His tunnels offer great utility but not really a great deal during laning. A support without real pressure laning isn't much use to an ADC.

I've mained him since release. My opinion: Q is perfect. R is almost overpowered. W is great for laning, crap after, E is crap in laning, good after, but his passive needs major buffs.

His chimes are way too undertuned. They spawn 2 per 50 seconds, which means you literally CANNOT have all his upgrades (145 chimes) until 61 minutes into the game, assuming you don't miss a single chime.

His meeps need a toggle, because you often have to auto-attack while taking or defending objectives, and this means your meeps will not be up during teamfights. It's great that you have potentially 3 or 4 meeps (though 4 meeps requires 95 chimes, which cannot be reached until 40 minutes of play), but in practice you only have 1 or 2 saved up at any time.

Heal is absolutely amazing in laning and early. Honestly, it's better than a Sona or Soraka, because you can have up to three. I normally drop 1 in mid for my midlaner, 1 or 2 for the jungler, then in bot lane whenever we need them. Since they last forever, you drop when CD and mana allow, and then let them sit until you need.

Portal is useless in laning but can be quite useful after. I know everyone says "but enemies can follow you through it!" Yes, and when they do, you stun them. It is literally the easiest thing ever, since you know where they will appear and there will be a wall or another enemy champion behind them.

The slow/stun is great and I love it and have no complaints about it. The ult is also absolutely f*ing incredible when used right, and it has SO MUCH FLEXIBILITY. It makes picks, it catches fleeing enemies, saves fleeing allies, completely shuts down half of the enemy team during teamfights, can hold Baron or Dragon for a few seconds, makes tower dives completely safe.

His entire problem IMO is that his scaling is crap (80% AP damage ratio and nothing else scales with any stat at all), and his passive is so undertuned that it is literally impossible to get its full benefits in a normal game. The only stats he scales well with are CDR and MS, after that I usually build him with HP and mana.
