Gonna sound odd...

But I actually like Morde having no CC and no dashes. It keeps playing him spicy. I get burnt out playing champions that button mash (think cass e Karthus q, riven q). I also get burnt out on dashing champions like Yasuo, Lee, Irelia, Akali because they seem kinda boring (to me).

Sure Morde, Garen, Sion champions are maybe toted as easy, but they take a completely different sort of approach at the game. You have to learn how to appropriately make a straight line dash at the enemy and convince them that they want to fight you in melee.

To me Mordes core identity has always been baddass drain tank that if he gets into the middle of a fight can really add durability utility and damage as a trade off for his glaring weakness of no dashes and no CC.

Maybe it’s just me but I like his positioning, ability timing, low spam, no dash, no nonsense style of play.

Yea it can be fun, but 90% of the time it is miserable. The mass majority of my morde success, is no one knows wtf morde even does.

Anyone who has an idea can abuse him easily. It feels like crap to have no answers, other than my opponent messed up or I have flash

Being in the middle of the fight and not getting instantly popped, fall's sunder opponent messed up

How does a scaling, immobile, melee, cc-less champion deal with him?

Do you mean Yorick? The bruiser pubstomper?

y0r1ck1 votes

Nah, I understand Yorick loses this no matter what because of Morde's heal. I meant stuff like Shen or Olaf.

Shen just uses his W to block mordes Q, olaf just runs him the fk down

So level 3 and after shen is going to win trades?

I agree anyway.

For sure.

When Karthus is reworked they need to make his Auto attacks change to his Q and his Q be a amp of his auto attacks with a CD.

No reason my Q key should break on my Keyboard because of some champ.

As someone who once loved Mordekaiser before his season 5 rework, I've thought of a few kits with and without CC, but mobility is a big no no in my book. I mean, TECHNICALLY speaking he has "mobility" when walking towards his harvester friend, but yeah.

I'm interested to see how Riot will handle the rework. Mordekaiser is kinda weird because he has one of League's only unique resource bars and I imagine the hurt guy/get shield mechanic will need to stay around. I would also argue Children of the Grave should exist in some form on the kit, whether on his passive or a revival of a Yorick type ult or left largely unchanged. All that I know is that he has the narrative potential to be one of the most badass purely evil villains in any game and with that lore the potential for a truly unique kit unlike anything else in the game. I guess we'll all see... (in 2056.)

That no CC is funny, because Morde has always depended on slow-on-demand items (Gunblade, Rylai) to be useful as far as I remember (although im not a Morde player). That's no argument to give her 3 know ups and 2 roots plus a stun if you play a minigame, but lets be real, he needs something or he will always be anchored to a pathbuild to be useful.

GigglesO1 votes

That still isn't cc in his kit. There was also most of season 7 where rylis was considered so garbage that it was better to not build it. I actually had a higher winrate with Trinity forces stereks than I did rylis liandris most of season 7.

Anyone can pick up HTGB, Rylis, Frozen Mallet type items. It isn't a core ability.

Felvyne1 votes

But having to build one of them to be viable speaks by itself. Although I didnt had remembered the AD bruiser time, mb

GigglesO1 votes

Riot could easily fix the Rylis issue by giving him 10MS... even if that means he needs to see nerfs elsewhere. Not being at bare bones base movement speed would really help.

Jamenawerl2 votes

Not always.

There have been times, especially when gunblade and rylai were useless trash, when Morde just ran people down while tanking like a mofo with trinity+steraks or alternatively waited to nuke squishies from a distance going full AP/mpen. Hell, even if he goes for a slow item he doesnt have to get both gunblade and rylais.

Basically he is this big balls bigger ego overlord that fucks everyone who gets at medium range without contributing anything to his team. His playstyle is unique without relying on gimmicks and even more importantly IT WORKS nonetheless. Very well designed champion imo as much as the boards like to complain about him. L2p nubs.

That description is actually how I feel when playing him. So something I would like to specifically quote.

His playstyle is unique

His playstyle between morde mains is even extremely different. I was playing with another morde main TheGatorMan, and our playstyles are extremely different. It was crazy seeing another diamond morde play so differently from myself.

Yeah I know exactly what u mean.

He tends to be played at mid competitively, but I for example play him bot with liandry+full AP because the haunting guise+sorc boots grants an earlier powerspike that you can snowball from.

I even have a friend that climbed to plat spamming Morde full tank top. Which sounds stupid, I know, but he maxes E first for the poke and waveclear becoming extremely annoying in lane, and in teamfights even if he lacks frontloaded burst, u cant zone him with damage threats so he has easier target access (+ item 3742 item 3800 ) and he becomes nearly unkillable if he gets a ghost (and he WILL get a ghost unless you want to focus the full tank Mord first), sometimes turning the tables in the process. I remember seeing him once tanking 4 people for like 10 seconds. I dont think its the optimal way to play him tho, but it makes for a decent (and very interesting) bruiser anyway, if you are into that playstyle.

I wish there were better ways to highlight things like this.

There is more than one way to successfully play many champs. But I often fall into the trap of looking up highest percentage win rates for things and adjusting my play-style around them. Arguably a poor strategy, depending on how you do it.

GigglesO1 votes

At the same time some champions are played (almost) exactly the same nomatter what you build/how you try to play them. Some of that is the current burst meta where everyone builds just damage, the other half is because some champions are only designed to be played one way.

Fizz/Zed/Rengar are kindof great examples of this. They lack any real utility so their only real playstyle is jump in try and deal as much damage as possible and leave kill or no kill. Its honestly pretty boring.

ModKnightsKemplar1 votes

You say that, but I had a Top Lane Rengar in a game today who rushed Black Cleaver shrug

I'm not gonna judge when people find odd ways to play people. Often depends on the game. I had a friend succeed on tank Corki once. It was ARAM, but it's what our comp needed. Somehow, it worked.

GigglesO1 votes

I actually miss the time in league where you could build what you wanted on whom you wanted. I played alot of tank twitch games.

I also played alot of ad soraka games too.

Riot removed most of the extra possible play styles over the years. (note this is def opinion)

Felvyne1 votes

Didnt had remembered the AD bruiser build, so mb there.

Jamenawerl2 votes

Even if he goes AP he doesnt have to build gunblade or rylai 100% of the time.

Usually Mord goes in after someone else initates or makes a pick, and with a full AP build hitting E+W+R on a CC'd squishy is enough to kill him more often than not.

A slow may help some games but it isnt mandatory, especially considering Morde's bursty nature. If you have to keep slowing someone until you hit 3Qs on your own, chances are you are gonna get kited into oblivion anyway.

I guess the problem with morde is he isn't being given any extra power for not having dashes/cc. At least Darius gets a lot of dmg and a hefty slow for catching you. I feel like morde should be much more powerful and tankier.

Theres a lot of champions i feel that they do not pay enough for their power budget and morde is the only one i can think of who isnt getting a rework soon that has the opposite problem.

GigglesO1 votes

Yea its kinda silly people say his extra power is his damage on Q... but it has such a long build up time, and hes so slow it pretty much doesn't matter.
