Got an S on Braum but no chest?

Just got an S on braum who I have yet to play this season. Didn't get a chest.

Earlier I played blitz and got an s and got a chest but I got a chest last year (2016) with blitz.

What is going on?

If you don't own the champion then you can't get the chest. That's the only reason I can think of.

You can only get a certain amount of chests a month.
