This season has killed my power fantasy...

I want to be an unstoppable juggernaut of terror.

Now I'm just a tin can, that needs some oil to even move.

Can we discuss damage yet, and how it is too high?

Can we discuss how time to kill is currently too low?

Can we discuss how the only strategy is to now have the (safest) highest damage champ and kill the enemy repeatedly? Which doesn't really make it a strategy game at all?

No one should be "1 shotting" imo.

Votable Jester6 votes

No one-shotting, but killing in one rotation should be fine for a fair few champions (primary example being Veigar).

It would be fair if he didn't have his "don't take ANY damage in a fight or you're dead past midgame" button. As someone who used to play him, shift power from his ult to his Q and W.

TehNACHO1 votes

Ehh

I understand this completely if we're talking about his rotational burst, but a flat buff to Veigar's waveclear and laning tools at the cost of his raw burst sounds like the kind of shit that turned DFG Ahri into the most obnoxious mid laner for a while. Now I'm an advocate for more waveclear and utility in this game, but this is one of those things where we really need to tread lightly when suggesting.

As someone who runs predator and builds luden's on Veigar (they do dmg before the ability dmg calculates so your R does even more dmg) I wouldn't mind better early game for slightly weaker late game. About the R thing it would be just fine if they changed how predator and luden's work (now proc after the spell deals it's dmg) cause if he's pretty fed and you have no mres at all he can just straight up ult you and you die. I wouldn't mind if they made his ult deal less dmg but if you hit them with a spell or stunned them with event horizon it goes back to up to original dmg.

I think certain champions should in certain situations, but not the entire roaster and certainly not Quinn with summoner 14 and electrocute.

Keshaun2 votes

One shotting doesn't involve strategy at all and is bad for the game. If you're being one-shotted, that means there is no counterplay to your death other than "better positioning." So I agree that one-shotting shouldn't be a thing.

In my opinion I'd say much earlier, when they spliced the runes & masteries together; besides the obvious favoritism for 'flashy' champions.

It was sooner, but atleast last season I felt like my tank purchases meant something.

I'm mixed for disagreement, I'd say it was before last season but tanks (heavy frontliners in general) haven't mattered too much unless they have significant reach or mobility; between barely living long enough for a rotation of spells, and being short changed in the mastery rework gimped their durability.

My last season rune page was 46armor and 43 MR at level 18. Pure scaling, and then I just needed to stall out the game until my scaling was better than the flat the enemy took.

I also used to run entirely scaling runes, but I was referring to the class reworks that skewed game balance like no other update before it, followed by the mastery rework changing it from bad to worse. The +5% armor & magic resist doesn't make up for the loss of ~45 in raw stats; and the increasing inclusion of true damage just makes the situation worse, I lived through the league of warmogs and black cleavers, and the changes they've been making sound like they're shoving us back into that direction.

GigglesO2 votes

With their whole time to kill, and warmogs being a shit item I really don't think that is going to happen. %hp is still much more rampant than it used to be.

Oh yeah, warmogs is nothing like what it used to be, but it's still one of the highest raw durability items. I concur there's still too powerful anti-tank tools though, I've been seeing bruisers and fighters increasingly frequently build full damage for that reason too, building defense isn't as useful as it was.

GigglesO2 votes

Looks at a damage item that gives almost the same durability item 3022

Edit: Someone was actually talking about that being part of damage creep. Since noone is building any defense everyone also deals more damage, ontop of their already higher damage.

ZT Xperimentor2 votes

Indeed and agreed, besides the removal of runes reducing champion durability across the board.

I miss those scaling runes, I also miss the HP Regen quint's.

I also miss my odd pages where I took two or 3 mana runes and I just didn't ever run out of mana. If you had all of the runes, the old system was way more flexible.

I agree with you 100%, we had more flexibility with the old rune system.

With conqueror& to muchPenetration in this game i find you can't stack resistances. Only HP

3k hp 100 resists. Eve oneshots without even using all of her abilities. (just had that crap im my previous game) Same goes for every other assassin. Wtf.

surprisingly you see lck full of tanks and nearly no conqueror users. but hey, soloq, pen is here broken for diffrent reasons am i right?

I thought i will never say this but i honestly miss tank meta. Anything to make games slower please!

Killing someone in 1 rotation of spells is fine, if you're ahead.

But jumping on someone and killing them in 0.4 seconds is not fine.

Today I had a Veigar who killed me constantly in the match.

Haha, Veigar stuff, amiright?

Except, every time I died, it's all within 1 second. The fastest I died was at 0.36 second. Basically, he press R on me and I instantly died from full HP.

This is unacceptable. Who the hell thinks TTK being under 1 second is even remotely okay, let alone under 0.5 seconds. Not even shooter games have this insanely low amount of TTK, not CoD, CSGO, or Rainbow6. This is just absurd.

I played Veigar in co-op vs AI last week. I got to around 1400-1500 AP with 40+ kills, at which point my W could just barely one-shot a squishy four levels behind without help from comet. W's AP ratio is 1.0 and R's is 0.75, so one-shotting with R would need about 30% more AP. I had decent magic pen, so target MR was reducing my damage by around 3-5%.

Assuming you're posting from the account where you played this match, I see a match in your history where you were Brand mid ending 9/11/8 against a Veigar ending 13/10/11. It doesn't look like he outleveled you, although you didn't build any health or MR items. Veigar built 320 AP from items, plus around 120 from takedowns, and let's be generous and say 150 from Q CS, totaling around 600 AP. He built Liandry's (it looks like he was going for a magic pen build, but Liandry's doesn't have pen anymore, so I dunno what he was thinking), so he could've stunned before ulting to burn 6% of your max HP, but you said you "instantly died," so that's not part of it. But let's add 10% AP from Luden's, bringing us to 660. With Void Staff, Sorc Shoes, and Morello's, that magic pen on a level 16 Brand with no extra MR would result in around 10% bonus damage, or the equivalent of being at around 730 AP.

TL;DR: He didn't one-shot you with ult from full health. I'd say you focused on the ult and didn't notice other spells arriving at the same time.

Nevertheless, TTK being less than 1 second is still a bit of an extreme on its own already, worse when it can go as low as 0.36 seconds in my anecdotal case.

The TTK really should get a scale up. Not even twitch-shooters would be fine with this kind of TTK unless we're talking about like headshots, but no way a semi-strategy game like LoL should be fine with this level of TTK being the norm.

I heartily agree with that. There must be a happy medium between the OP's desire to be unstoppable so he can just attack-move the enemy Nexus without any strategy, and exploding almost instantly every time you make the slightest tactical error. Both macro and micro should have a place in LoL.

Lol, I used to go 26 pen in my runes, screw saftey when you could do true damage with boots?

RIP SRS

GigglesO2 votes

That is the great thing about the old rune system, it gave so much variety and opened up any play style that you wanted to do. I absolutely loved some of my old rune pages that had odd shit mashed together, but worked really well.

As much as I agree that champions do too much damage, I don't want League to become what it was in season three where team fights lasted 3 minutes and assassins took at least 3 seconds to get a kill, except Fizz. Reducing damage/upping tankiness would be good, just not back into what it used to be

There is a happy medium. Season 5 seems to be regarded by many as the most stable meta.

Thefrostyviking1 votes

ehhhh......we had juggernaut rework in season 5 remember?

And the marksman item update?

Both ended rather sourly.

And we also had the first cinderhulk meta in season 5, the great snooze feast.

Lauchmelder3 votes

Slow games means strategy is important. I'd rather have slow games than 'me slam head at board with keys over and over while me get kill on every slam'-kind of games.

Thefrostyviking2 votes

We are talking slow as in 8 tanks standing ontop of eachother with no max health damage and trying to kill eachother with cinderhulk and auto attacks.

That kinda slow, no mages and marksmen often just died by 3 repeated engages malp style or similar.

We didnt have current rageblade back then so only vayne could really deal with tanks but laning phase was short and she was often banned x)

Those extended teamfights are what made the game what it is though. Those were far more tense to watch than people getting instagibbed.

GigglesO3 votes

I agree 5000% it was always hard to tell who was going to get what out of a teamfight, and who was going to win. It also took alot of work to coordinate teamfights with cdr's and things like taht.

Keshaun1 votes

I didn't play in Season 3, but I did play during Season 6 when tanks were strong and extended teamfights were a thing. I'm not saying I want tank meta to be back, but I am saying is tanks make the game more interesting because Talon, for example, can't just jump on me or my other carry and instapop me. Since LDR got buffed and the true damage on IE and Conquerer are in the game, tanks get shredded in teamfights now.

FutureCreator1 votes

Remember when "one-shotting" someone was actually a rare occurrence? When being SO fed that you could kill someone with just a few abilities was spectacular? That's what made "one-shots" cool, the fact that they didn't happen all the time and on every champion.

iamsmurfing01011 votes

Literally everyone are talking about it and what i see Riot do is ignore and add more damage on PBE as we speak. Go check pbe changes every day and you will see. Right now they are in process of making Fizz and Lee sin deal more damage.

GigglesO1 votes

"They can't compete" lol They are just gonna make it so everything is a one shot.
