You know how Riot said that tiamat was now a better component item now that it only has the active? Well, what if there was a third Hydra that would be a pretty good choice on melee AP fighter type champions?

People like Ekko, Fizz, Diana, Kassadin, Akali, Elise, Evelynn, Katarina, and Nidalee (I think that's it for the melee champs that actually build AP) could benefit from something like this if they play top and go between autos and spells.

What do you guys think? Would this item even have a place in League, or would it turn into a problem?

I've got it! This hypothetical item could build out of item 3057 . It could have a spell blade effect that makes it deal AoE around your auto attack target, scaling with AP. This effect could adversely affect lanes, so what if we made it a jungle item? And then we just, you know, nerved the shit out of it.

They're AP champs. They already have AOE damage.

So does Riven, and she still builds Hydra. I can see this concept being particularly good on Akali. Even though she have some AOE, it's not enough to actually clear waves quickly.

So is ravenous and titanic hydra?

The OP is asking for an AP version of hydra...aka an item with AP stats that has splash damage on hit for melee aa's.

Point being that guinsoo's scales with attack speed and gives attack speed.

Rageblade getting it's AD component from Tiamat, may actually work with some fiddling. And definitely seems betetr than just a basuc medium AD item.

Rageblade is more effective for champions who have both AD and AP scaling, however. That, or a champion that could make use of the on-hit damage and/or attack speed. Ekko would not make very good use of Rageblade because if, for example, the AP Hydra has a burst-ish sort of active, then Ekko would make better use of that because the burst is appealing, not the sustained damage that is gained from auto attacks. Rageblade isn't for everyone.

How about something like: Autoattacks deal 30% of total AD + 40% of total AP as magic damage in an AOE. Active does 60% of AP in an aoe. If it's broken with guinsoo's then make it so the two passives do not stack.

Build it out of needlessly large rod + blasting wand + tiamat.

Akali will love you for it.
