Honest-to-goodness question about Karma

Now I am not a karma player. I have occasionally played Karma, although not very often. My question, without any position taking on whether it is good or not, is this:

What prompted the changes? I figured she was ok as she was, from the little I have played her. Why is she being changed?

Like I said, completely curious, not taking sides at all.

I'd guess as a support she becomes irrelevant late game. Other supports stay relevant through their ability to cc enemies, tank damage or heal allies. Karma only has an average shield with slight speed boost (mantra E), an aoe slow (mantra Q), and a single target soft cc (W). Since her playstyle focuses on her doing damage through AP, she's not able to fulfill the support role easily due to limited money income.

With the changes she's supposed to become better cc'er and peeler which should make her more relevant late game even if she's not building full AP.

The irony is that pre-relaunch Karma was heavily gated by support's gold income too.

its not that she's problematic, but that she is inherently imbalanced and lacks direction she is still fun to play but they want to make her more of a champion who's performance develops simply to other champs

basically she does great early game and is super strong with mantras, but kinda falls off late game because mantra's will not be as strong as regular ults and she doesn't usually get more than one mantra off in a team fight,

secondly she has some heavy favored mantras (RQ ALL DAY ERRY DAY) and the other 2 are used relatively less in comparison, they want to open up more possibilities for other mantra uses while also giving her more opportunities to use mantra

she was imbalanced because she is stronger at early game and very heavily reliant on Q, they want to smooth out the distribution of power in her kit, to not be so reliant on q/RQ and give her a more healthy progression as the game goes on, instead of getting weaker

Karma is very strong early game both as a mage as well as a support. However, she falls off late game especially as a support. Her RQ can literally oneshot an ADC with enough AP though. As for the changes on the PBE... They really butcher mage Karma while buffing her mediocre support power. HOWEVER, ricklessabandon tweeted an updated version of the tweaks with enough compensation for mage Karma for removing RW extra damage and removing RE damage entirely. Buffing regular W scaling from 60% to 90% means that Karma will deal way more damage every game since RQ is always better damage wise than her current RW. Hope I helped.
