They said there's a team thats working on it. That was over a year ago. It still shit, there was no update on when will they release any fixes. So...

Bulshlaka4 votes

have you tried applying for the job and fixing a client that contains the information links news for 150 champions shop containing thousands of skins emotes icons that keeps track of a leaderboard for millions of players up to date every 15~? minutes that also handles launching thousands of games every minute and pushing missions to millions and keeping them up to date for as many servers as possible in as many languages as supported?

i mean it's very easy to just shout your lungs out for them to "fix" things it's really easy babies start crying the moment they are born im saddened that most of you haven't evolved passed that point

TomiMan711 votes

Funny. U stumbled upon a guy who actually learns programming. Have you ever thought why they used chromium and not something like c++ witch is much faster to begin with?

that keeps track of a leaderboard for millions of players up to date every 15~? minutes that also handles launching thousands of games every minute and pushing missions to millions and keeping them up to date for as many servers as possible in as many languages as supported?

The client does NONE of that. It simply displays that. I mean the times when it doesnt shit itself ofc. Everything that u listed is done on server side not on client side so idk what u r on about.

i mean it's very easy to just shout your lungs out for them to "fix" things it's really easy babies start crying the moment they are born im saddened that most of you haven't evolved passed that point

Funny how u talk about this, yet fail to even understand the basics of what your client actually do. [slayer-jinx-catface]

T2K Baka9 votes

Damn you just clapped him

Bulshlaka1 votes

oh snap it's done server side and your issues are client side? it only displays things? images you say

i'm sure they stayed up late at night and decided hay how can we code this new thing that is going to cost us millions and make it the worst piece of shit possible and they figured yeah lets code it in chromium instead of c++ that will surely infuriate people and we will have long careers here at riot fixing the shit we layed behind us

imagine

i also read a biology book so now im definitely qualified at diagnosing cancer

TomiMan79 votes

it's done server side and your issues are client side?

Soo, have u ever had issues with buying stuff from the market? No. Have you ever had issues LOADING (seeing) the market? Yes.

Have you ever had finding a match? No. Have you ever had problems accepting said match? Yes.

Have you ever lost any scoreboard scores? No. Have you ever had any issues actually seeing said scores in client? Yes.

Oooh snap i guess than the client is shit and not their servers.

yeah lets code it in chromium instead of c++ that will surely infuriate people and we will have long careers here at riot fixing the shit we layed behind us

Coding everything from ground up in c++ would have taken atleast 2x the time than using chromium, wiuld have been much harder, and they would have actually had to fix bugs for you to even use it properly.

i also read a biology book so now im definitely qualified at diagnosing cancer

And did you get scholarship in biology?

Ęsdeath3 votes

I suppose biology is the new evolution of informatics. Studying the human body primary functions will help you study the blood course in the computers' veins. Just as Pope Francis is the king of Jupiter.

The three statements seem perfectly valid, and you are a traitor of biology if you dare deny it. Have you seen how the respiratory system can fix many of the client's issues? You are crazy do deny such a flawless argument.

What?

Have you ever had any issues actually seeing said scores in client? Yes.

never

Coding everything from ground up in c++ would have taken atleast 2x the time than using chromium

apply for the job and pitch your idea im confident if that was true riot would pay you a million dollars just for achieving that feat but you won't right it's not your job to fix their shit right xD

delusional

I mean you can come back for more slap downs, but i would have thought that by now you realise that you shit talk wont help you in this convo.

Go back to you biology. Lmao.

take it from someone who studied all of the major surface level code structures except java...

their code practices are nonsensical. Half of the time it seems like they have a monkey roll over the keyboard because things which are not connected at all with changes that they make, somehow get broken

Also, it tends to make very little business sense to replace functioning code with "new" code. Using Chromium, they could even cut their resource costs extensively by just opening a web page to their "new" features that they've added in...but for some reason, it's always flashy stuff loaded into memory and cpu within the client

I haven't run into client issues, but then again, I tend to not play the game long enough to do so...

You mean stuff like when jhin got 20k movement speed when critting on PBE withouth touching any adc, adc items etc? As some1 who learns coding i cannot begin to even think about how their code actually looks like if they managed to that.

3TWarrior1 votes

for me, that sounds like a period got erased XD as in 200.00 =/= 20000

but if that were the case, it would take like 5 minutes to code it in and patch the server

TomiMan71 votes

idk the exact number, the only thing we saw, is that we were teleporting left and right, then we realised that jhin got so high m.speed that it seemed like he was actually lagging around. In fact he got so fast, that you couldnt see him moving :D

You know what the funniest thing is. Steam is also using CEF as its engine and it doesn't run like absolute arse. It's hilarious what a little optimisation can actually do to a client.

3TWarrior1 votes

well, it doesn't "run like arse" but it does have high base memory usage XD but that's to be expected in a sense

it would be nice if they had a "low spec mode" to help with ram for budget comps

God I love the "coding isn't easy!" line. Wanna know what else isn't easy? Surgery. That's why we train and hire people trained for it. It's really funny how these bugs with the friend list and clicking "lock in champion" have persisted for so long, yet bugs like the prestige point package for Blue Essence bug were fixed in 1 hour

First off, sometimes you already know nothing can be done but have to try because you took an oath. Secondly, there is not attempt by Riot. Saying "it's too hard and would take too long to make a new code" is just the worst excuse they could make.

Bulshlaka1 votes

yes man the multi billion dollar company wants you to suffer because they want to save a buck are you seriously this dense?

if it were easy it would have already been done since it's not done you can figure that it's not fucking easy

in the meantime there are a fuckload of things you can do to improve your client ON YOUR SIDE the issues i usually encounter wiht the client are always server overload issues or crashes the last bug i encountered was the game stats bug where the client would flicker half black and that got fixed within a week

if you think all those threads of bug lists are something huge or a shame to the programmers you have never worked on a game that has been shipped

literally games get shipped with thousands of bugs 99% of them occur in near impossible to reproduce scenarios that 1% is the bugs we all experience and riot near instantly fixes

keep in mind it's a 9-5 job they have families they have lives and some things can't be done with a finger snap just because you want them to

General Esdeath 2 votes

{quoted}

Actually Riot never said this, that's a mistake by me. But according to people on the boards, this is why. I assumed they must have said it somewhere but I can't find anything by them. Also never underestimate companies and saving money. Many jobs require people to deal with dangerous work but won't give them health insurance.

if it were easy it would have already been done since it's not done you can figure that it's not fucking easy

Who said it's easy? We're going back to the surgery argument here. Coding isn't easy but it's possible. If Riot told us today they were starting a project to build a new code, I'd be excited. If they told me it would take a year or two that would be fine with me, because it'll be great in the long run and make the current mess more bearable.

in the meantime there are a fuckload of things you can do to improve your client ON YOUR SIDE

Such as...? I've done the client repair about 26 times this month, because the client starts breaking after a few games.

if you think all those threads of bug lists are something huge or a shame to the programmers you have never worked on a game that has been shipped

Oh no the threads aren't the issue, bugs happen, that's just programming 101. The shame comes from how some of these things have gone on for so long without being addressed or fixed.

keep in mind it's a 9-5 job they have families they have lives and some things can't be done with a finger snap just because you want them to

You know I love the pretentious attitude you give where you think I sit here assuming DAAAHHH RIOT TYPE IN "FIX CLIENT" AND CLIENT FIX OONGA DOONGA. You keep saying it would take time and I keep saying I'll gladly wait that time if Riot actually worked on it or said they were.

If you say anything along the lines of "client is hard to do", then you must not have been around for the old client. Riot literally ruined everything just so they can implement their precious Hextech Cashgrab function. Please get your head out of your ass and only speak when you know what you're talking about in the future.

The old client wasn't harder on my computer than the actual game. That alone makes it much better than this new one.

Bulshlaka1 votes

aha so you would much rather your client crash and freeze and constantly display wrong information just so it can run faster on your potato?

you know there is this button in the client in the upper right corner. it looks like a small gear. you can click it and a bunch of menus will appear. in the default window that opens or "general" tab if you get lost you can find the very first option with a tick box it says enable low spec mode tick it

also you can untick the close client during game so that it doesn't have to load everything again after you exit a game

there is initiate full repair there is also the option to contact the support team if the client is running exceptionally slow

the old client doesn't even hold a candle to the new one not in performance not in complexity not in ussability

arguing otherwise just makes you look like an uninformed sheep

1st, idk why you say "complexity" as if that's a good thing lol. I don't want my game client to be complex. I want it to be straightforward.

2nd, there's literally nothing a player can do to salvage the new client. I've uninstalled and reinstalled this game way too many times over the years for it to be some sort of unfortunate error in the system screwing me over.

3rd, my potato runs the game on decent graphics settings, with 70-100 fps. So, when the very same potato has issues running the game's pre-game client, then yeah, there's a fucking problem.

Finally, I've been playing this dumb game since season 3, and I've never personally experienced any problems with the old client. Meanwhile, on this new client, I'm consistently lagging so hard that I can barely get through champ select. What else would I argue for, when this is the case?

Bulshlaka1 votes

reinstalling =/= repairing

you were one of the lucky ones to not experience client issues with the old one

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OfJMZ9R6pck https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nzZmD6aELjs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IT13W6YFGrs

but for me it was god awful i was restarting it every 2-3 games when it wasn't crashing or freezing on its own it regularly bugged so hard that the only advice the support team could give me was to reinstall i would often not be able to buy champions/runes or pages i would often freeze in champ select and the game will terminate but we would all lose LP (all 10 of us yes) on top of the EUW server memes that would often terminate games that later don't count (not the ddos) great if you were losing infuriating if you were winning

oh when masteries were client side instead of server side https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RkqVQ1aYKVE that was also a fun thing or the 30-40 minute patching times and your internet drops half way through so you would have to reinstall as the game would get corrupted or the multiple hacker vulnerabilities due to poor infrastructure

im sure you are experiencing issues with the new client but you are overblowing their severity you are oblivious to what we really had to go through even if you are playing since s3

stop looking at the past like its some golden age league and the client sucked ass compared to today the game would not even make 2 months into todays market if it were launched at the old quality

be reasonable at least a little

lol you know what's funny? With this new client, I experience almost every single one of the problems you experience, just by lagging so fucking hard. Not being able to buy shit, clicking shit in champ select and not having it register, freezing on Hextech crafting/rune pages/lobby, everything. I also have a weird thing where a third of the games in my match history don't have a score. It would literally say the game mode, the amount of XP I gained, and nothing else about Champion Mastery. I contacted Riot about this, and they literally told me that it was just lag.

Overall, both game's balance and its functionality felt much better back in those days. I miss the days when ADCs and mages could only outplay assassins by not being in the same part of the map, because that's what being counterpicked is supposed to mean. I also miss my client not being more taxing to my computer than the actual game, because objectively, a fucking pre-game client should not be burning my computer more than the actual game. The past was the fucking golden age, and if you could get your face out of Riot's dick for a moment, you'd see it too.

lmfao I don't need logs. I can recreate the lag whenever I want, because it's literally just my computer not being able to keep up with a pre-game client. You can also just go into my match history right now and see all the matches where I didn't get a letter grade for champion mastery.

Wow that's totally reassuring. I recall in early 2019 they mentioned a team working to improve the client and fix some bugs, and we're now 2 months into this buggy mess without any fixes in sight.

Ok, today I went and played some Legends of Runeterra. Opened the client and god damn, I have to say, it was a extremely smooth experience even for early beta. Animations were clean, no getting stuck at 100% which was a problem for ages and everything went extremely nice (except some minor sound bugs). Since they have the money AND the knowledge, why cant they fix the damned client!
