Why must we pick TWO roles in match making?

Oglaf··6 votes·1,238 views

Coming as a Support main who pretty much always gets his pick because well... Support amirite? But one day I decided to try Jungler and holy hell do you never get it! Why must we pick two choices? The queues are already long as crap, I'd be willing to have them longer for a guaranteed role.

Anyone else?

If you're picking Jungle/Support, you're gonna get support 90% of the time. It is pretty frustrating, especially because as a fellow support main I don't really play much of anything except support, so if I put jungle/mid or something I'm screwed if I get mid.

What supports do you play? Most if not all work in 2 roles

G4LLOWSC4L1BR4TR1 votes

Primarily Janna, Nautilus, and Leona. I know Naut can go top (and I suppose jungle too, but that's kind of moot), but the others really work best in support. The main thing though is the lanes are different beyond just the champions involved. For example, I can't deal with the constant jungle presence from both teams in mid, even though I could play Karma or Morgana (2 other supports I've been trying to pick up) there.

Leona top is a thing of beauty. Good waveclear, dueling potential, late game viability, and you can easily kill people during ganks. item 3027 item 3102 item 3742 item 3512 item 3089 isn't bad on her

Nautilus jg is a lot better then you would think his early ganks are deadly and item 1413 scales really well with your W (shield) Also him top is really good vs all the ranged toplaners shockenly your cc dosen't let them kite and your E (riptide) is ok poke

I agree it's good, but it's a moot point because I've already got plans if I do end up jungle. The main concern is if I put something like jungle/top or jungle/mid and I end up top or mid, because I can't play those well.

I am a support main and hate it when I get the secondary role... for which my experience as a support generally has left me woefully unprepared.

Haha just ask to switch I'd say a majority of the time they'd switch

Chamuel851 votes

I've had pretty bad luck on that part. Typically it HAS been a support main lol

for the sake of starting a match. if 5 mid mains get on at the same time nothing happens.

I wish we could pick only one role. Sometimes there's something I just want to practice.

I've NEVER gotten my secondary when I pick Support. I guess it is even less popular on EUNE, lol.

I once got Mid when I queued up Support, Mid.

At least we get to completely omit one of the five next season.

Chamuel851 votes

How so?

LostFr0st1 votes

Next season we will pick a primary and a secondary, then pick one role that we 100% don't want and will never get. Depending on the primary and secondary, we'll have a tiny chance of getting the other two roles too.

Chamuel851 votes

ahhhhh good to know!

I dunno. I just like my Champs big and beefy, preferably frontline. Top, Support and Jungle all cater to this. ADC I'm equally bad at, but at least then I hopefully have a Support I can rely on. As Mid you're on your own, beset from all sides by possible ganks and stuff.

Chamuel851 votes

I meant. I didn't know we get to select a role we absolutely don't want, according to LostFrost

Because the queue times would be way longer because it would take forever to find enough people willing to play support. That's why you will get support most of the time if you choose fill or choosing support at all.

I'm a support main but I can do anything except mid. I used to be a top main, then supp. Now I can jg, top, adc, and supp.

Well, one time I went supp primary and fill secondary. And I got mid... in a ranked game... for promo's... I was so upset.

Sasogwa1 votes

Because we don't wanna wait 62 hours for a queue.

khorney1 votes

no one lieks to supp plain and simple but you get all the rage for not carrying lol. i liked how solo que was before becuase it forced people to supp now people dont have to becuase its boring and unfiliing as well as the fact u really dont have a good impact in the game

If you want to play jungle, you should probably queue as Jungle/Mid.

Those are probably the two most popular roles at the moment (considering I've been filled as Support, ADC and Top on several occasions).

If I end up as Mid though, I'd ruin the game, lol.

Squishy "mage" characters is what I do the absolutely worse at.

It can depend on which champions you take.

Lux and Morgana are fairly forgiving picks for mid-lane due to their utility and waveclear. They have rather supportive playstyles and kits, so they should be somewhat familiar.

Anyways, I just meant to take Jungle/Mid while you are practicing jungle in normal games. If you get mid-lane, you can always just dodge and try again.

Osmiux1 votes

I usually play Chogath, if I'm mid. I mean, he's really tanky and has a nice kit. Also somewhat easy to waveclear with due to his e passive.

So if you want to play Jungle, I'd say the same thing as EndlessSorcerer and just queue as Jungle/Mid.

actually.. i have had that happen to me as well .. and _most _people who get support are willing to swap to mid if you ask XD.

Osmiux1 votes

Whenever I queue as Top/Mid, 20% of the time I get mid. I think people are either moving away from mid, or I'm just getting really unlucky.

Hyperiön1 votes

I normally already wait like 7-10 minutes for queue, queuing for Mid/Jungle/Top. If I could only queue for Mid, I would have probably 20 minute queues. I don't want to have to wait 20 minutes, than 5-10 minutes for champ select, 3 minutes for load in, right there is 33 minutes give or take just to get into a game. And then, figure a 45 minute game, thats almost an hour and a half just for 1 game. I can normally only play like 3 games as is a night, I don't want that reduced to 2 games.

N Pelosi1 votes

Yeah, then mid players are done lol. 1 hr wait times boys.

Because if we only ever chose one role, queue times would skyrocket. There are simply to many people looking to play Top, Mid or Jungle.

Do we have any statistics on player numbers? Mayhaps splitting the player base wasn't such a grand idea...

FourVsFive1 votes

I would like the option to be able to choose 2 roles you do not want, leaving 3 open. This would decrease que times by having more people choose 3 vs 2, if they so choose too, which some will.

So queue times aren't 15 minutes. Or longer.

Talisid1 votes

Even if you could pick just one role the system is going to auto-fill you if it doesn't find any games for your main role.

So it would basically be the same as picking Fill as secondary.
